In Episode 110, we get cozy with Dr. Rebecca Robbins and talk about her detailed work on sleep. Sleep is definitely a popular topic these days, so much so that it’s keeping us up at night trying to figure out how to get the best sleep. Dr. Robbins helps to clarify some of the key recommendations on sleep so that we can relax and fall asleep in a timely and sustainable manner. We talk about sleep and productivity, caffeine, alcohol, sleeping in, travel and jet-lag, sleep aids and bed-time routines. Dr. Robbins provides some great information on how to improve your sleep strategies and your overall health.Dr. Robbins is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Scientist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital where she works with Dr. Charles Czeisler and Dr. Laura Barger. Her research uses marketing and novel communication tools and technologies (i.e., smartphones and other mobile devices) to design persuasive behavior change interventions to improve sleep and circadian health. Her research has appeared in such peer-reviewed publications as SLEEP, Sleep Health, Prevention Science, Health Communication, Preventing Chronic Disease, and the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. In 2011, Dr. Robbins co-authored a book on techniques for how to get good sleep entitled Sleep for Success! with Dr. James B. Maas.Dr. Robbins has been interviewed in such publications as the New York Times, the Financial Times, and Readers' Digest. She has appeared in National television segments for Fox Business News, ABC Nightline, and CBS This Morning. Dr. Robbins holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Health Marketing from Cornell University. In Episode 102, we have an in depth discussion with Fernando Reis, discussing his training and the road to the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Fernando talks about when and how he started training in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, as well as some of the other sports he participated in as a young athlete. We discuss the intricacies of training and competing as a world class level Olympic Weightlifter and how important it was to develop his technical expertise from a very young age. Fernando talks about the equipment he uses and how his technique, training and recovery methods have changed over the years as a world class competitor. His upcoming competitions are the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in the Dominican Republic and the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and talk about his preparations for both those events.Fernando Reis competes as an elite level Olympic Weightlifting at the 105kg+ weight class for Brazil. He won the bronze medal at the 2020 Junior World Weightlifting Championships. This was the first World Championship medal for Brazil at any age group, gender or weight class. He won the gold medal for the 2011 Pan American Games, and has placed 11th and 5th at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games respectively. He repeated as the gold medalist for the 2015 Pan American Games and then finished 10th at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships, breaking the snatch and clean and jerk records for Brazil. In 2018, Reis won the bronze medal in the World Weightlifting Championships – the first medal for Brazil at this event. Callery has a total of 35 years of law enforcement experience and began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a Police Officer in the United States Air Force (USAF) for six years. For four of those years, he was detailed to the prestigious USAF Presidential Honor Guard at Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C., serving then President Ronald Reagan. Mr. Callery continued his law enforcement career as a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in 1992, initially assigned to the DEA Los Angeles Field Division (LAFD). Mr. Callery received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of Maryland and a Master’s of Science in Counterterrorism-WMD from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 2007. He also holds a Master Certificate in Conflict Management from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza School of Business.As the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the San Diego Field Division (SDFD) he is currently leading the men and woman of the SDFD in concentrating on the opioid overdose death investigations, fentanyl laced drugs, Mexican Cartel operations and the enduring scourge of methamphetamine trafficking in the region. Billy has been a long-time member of Drive495 in New York City and has shared more than a few intense and gruelling workouts under the close scrutiny of Don. He outlines the training and preparation for the film and how they pieced together the numerous races required for depicting Prefontaine’s thrilling competitions. We then transition into Billy’s preparation for Almost Famous, where he played a skilled lead guitarist for an up and coming seventies rock band. Once again, Billy had to learn from some of the best in the world to create the illusion of guitar brilliance, piecing together memorable scenes for the movie. We quickly learn that Billy is a master in the art of taking brief moments in time and portraying himself as a world class performer throughout movies and television episodes. We even get to witness more of his acting and singing brilliance in the first season of The Morning Show, and anxiously await Season 2.
