We’re talking about how she found a balance between paleo and convenience that works for her family; advice she has for startup bloggers; and why we both chose to join the safer beauty movement that is Beautycounter. Cassy Joy: Welcome back to the show everybody! I am thrilled to be able to bring a friend on today’s show. Her name is Arsy Vartanian, and she is the blogger, recipe developer, and all around got a really great head on her shoulders wellness pro behind RubiesandRadishes.com. She authored the Paleo Slow Cooker cookbook, which was her first; the Paleo Foodie cookbook, of which you can find her recipe for a very tasty sardine spread on my website; and the collaborative project, which was the Ultimate Paleo Cookbook. You can find her on the web, at RubiesandRadishes.com; her books in all of the major bookstores nationwide, and on social media at RubiesandRadishes.com. Arsy, I’m so excited to have you on the show today! Arsy Vartanian: Thank you so much for having me! I’m thrilled to be here. Cassy Joy: Oh my goodness, me too. I always tend to do this. When I get on the phone with folks that I interview, I like to chat beforehand {laughing} to get caught up. Arsy Vartanian: {laughs} Cassy Joy: Because I just can’t wait to press the record button. So, it’s good to say hi to you again. {laughs} Arsy Vartanian: It is, it is. I know, it’s funny to do a redo. {laughs} Cassy Joy: It really is. Ok, awesome. I was telling Arsy that on our show, as all the listeners know, we kind of fly by the seat of our pants a little bit, so we’re getting a good introduction to that. Arsy Vartanian: {laughs} Cassy Joy: But Arsy, let’s go ahead and get started. You can introduce yourself way better than I can. So can you tell folks a little bit more about yourself? I would love to know why you started Rubies and Radishes, and really what your business is all about right now. Arsy Vartanian: Sure, yes. I’ll try and give you guys the short version, since it’s been a long time. I think I started my blog in 2010. I’ve always been interested in health, ever since I was a teenager. I had started eating a vegetarian diet, because back then there really wasn’t all this information when I was 16. You couldn’t just go Google everything. And I ended up having a lot of health problems all through my 20s. I was in and out of doctors offices, and nobody ever had any answers for me. So I just kind of had to learn to live with it. I just had really bad headaches and I never had energy. And then I had joined Crossfit I guess in 2009, was there for a while and was loving the workouts, and we did a paleo challenge, and all of a sudden I felt so much better. It was like, my headaches were gone, and everything. I had so much more energy, so I was just one of those people where I was obsessed with it. I wanted to tell everybody, because I felt like I’d found everybody’s solution. {laughs} Cassy Joy: {laughs} Arsy Vartanian: Because you know, I worked in corporate, everybody was basically spent,

Episode 63 Today we’re going to talk about how to get on the waiting list for the new Fed and Fit Project online; PaleoFx, the five toxic beauty product ingredients that I avoid; and two trustworthy companies for safer beauty. Cassy Joy: Good morning everybody! I hope this finds you well and your week off to a wonderful start. Thank you, once again for bearing with me while I took a little time to get some other projects out the door, but I’ve got some really great interviews in the queue now, and you’re going to have more every week; weekly episodes. Isn’t that exciting? Before I get into today’s topic, which is a pretty cool one. It’s one I’ve been wanting to cover for a while. I wanted to give you a quick state of affairs {laughs} as it is in the Fed and Fit Cassy and Gus and husband household. So, as far as the book goes. If you’re a new listener; welcome to the party. I have just wrapped up work on my first printed cookbook. It is going to be available in stores nationwide; so you can hold it in your hands and you can dog-ear all the pages you like. It will be available on July 12th nationwide; it’s very exciting, it has been a long time in the making. I have poured everything into it I possibly could. And my dear friend, Juli Bauer, behind PaleOMG.com, she’s a brilliant recipe developer, fitness programmer, all around positive spirit worked with me actually in the book to help bring a really robust fitness program to the 28-day program that I’ve got outlined in the book. And the 28-day program that’s outlined in the book actually is a copy of my Fed and Fit Project. And if you’ve been following me for a very long time {laughs} then you know that the project is my online healthy lifestyle, start to finish program. And it’s not just another cleanse or reset, although it can read that way; the four weeks can definitely be read that way. But the main point of it is that you cultivate, and I walk you through the process to cultivate these major lessons learned so that at the end of the four weeks, and beyond, not only do you have a really great baseline of health and you’re feeling really wonderful, but you’re also equipped then with these powerful realizations about yourself about how to build your perfect you plan. So a lot of that information is in the book, but we are also going; I tell you that, because we are also going to be revving up the project online once again. And I will be giving you a lot more information about the project online as we get a little bit closer; but for the time being, if that sounds like something that you’re interested in, the project online is going to follow the same format that you’ll find in the book, but we are providing supplemental videos, like newscaster style, really fun, informational videos. The project online is going to be broken up more like an online class, a course you might take. We are going to have a community forum, all kinds of really wonderful supplemental resources; oh my goodness. The list could go on. And I won’t bore you with all the details right now, but if you’re interested in possibly participating in that and letting you guys know first hear on the show that we’re going to have to cap our first enrollment. We’re going to start the first group in August,

 Ep. 62: Is grass-fed beef better? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:09

We're back with our 62nd episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Episode 62 Links: Reserve your copy of my upcoming print book HERE. Find a farmer near you via EatWild.com ButcherBox will deliver grass-fed, grass-finished beef (along with healthier choices for chicken and pork) right to your door! Check back HERE for a link to a free package of bacon on Sunday, May 8th. I would LOVE some feedback, so feel free to leave a review in iTunes, comment below, or even give us a shout on social media! Episode 62 On today’s show, we’re talking about why grass-fed is better; what the other meat labels actually mean; labels like organic or hormone free; and where you can find affordable, reliable, and delicious cuts of healthy beef. Cassy Joy: And we’re back with another episode! My goodness, I just looked at the list, I can’t believe we’re at episode number 62. Wow, time flies; and I still have things to say. {laughs} That’s the really crazy part. So today on the show I know we just finished up a short little interview series, where I invited some of my dear friends in the industry to join me on the show to share some of their thoughts and professional expertise. And now today, it’s just me. You get some quality time with yours truly. And something that I wanted to talk about, I really wanted to zero in on an issue that I’ve never really talked about before on the blog, and here on the podcast, and it’s the issue of grass-fed beef, and why grass-fed is better. Because I think that if we really start to think about the reasons why; I mean, I think folks know that grass-fed beef is a good option, but I don’t think we always understand why. There’s all kinds of different labels at the butcher counter, and it can be very confusing, so today we’re going to explore some of those options. But in the meantime, I wanted to give you a quick update, because I know a lot of you listeners have been with me for a long time and you are all up to speed on the crazy projects that I’m working on right now, so I wanted to give you a quick update on where I’m at. So let’s see, today is Monday May 2nd. My goodness, I can’t believe we’re already in May. And my book, my first printed real deal, going to hold it in your hands book, hits the shelves July 12th. And I just can’t wait. It turns out, I had a whole lot to say, because we’re at the maximum page count. My very patient publisher, they’ve just been amazing to work with. But {laughs} one of our conversations pretty recently, he said; “you know, I called the printer, and apparently the book cannot exceed;” I think the number was 488 pages before the spine on the book with give out. {laughs} and I was like, oh my goodness. You know, I would rather the spine hold together then have maybe those extra graphs and things that I had put together for the book. So I have a feeling there’s going to be a good deal of material that doesn’t make it in print that I will instead give you guys online as online resources. And really what this has come down to is; I’m not saying this will be the only book that I will ever write, but the way that I approached it is I want to be able to use it as a resource for years and years and years. I don’t want you guys; I want this to be something that not only our community leans on, but something that you can look at. If you’re in the Fed and Fit family with me, you probably identify with a lot of the things that I say, we all stand around and pat each other on the back and we kind of agree with each other. And when you want to go out in the world and help share some of your perspectives, I wanted to give you a tool to do that.

Ep. 61: Lexi of Lexi's Clean Kitchen on Blogging Advice and Her Book! On today’s show, I welcome my sweet friend, colleague, and special guest Lexi Kornblum of Lexi’s Clean Kitchen, to talk about her upcoming new book, how she turned her blog into a full time business, and advice for food blog start ups. Cassy Joy: Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Fed and Fit Project. Today I’m joined by another friend of mine; I’m so excited about this interview series, because I’m bringing some of my favorite people in the industry together, to chat with them for a little while. Today I’m talking with Lexi of Lexi’s Clean Kitchen! If you haven’t seen her yet, you need to as soon as possible. She’s Lexi’s Clean Kitchen across Instagram; http://lexiscleankitchen.com/. She’s also on Snapchat where you can see even more of her most adorable golden retriever, Jax. She’s a good friend of mine, she writes incredible recipes, she’s always thinking about what would be the next best thing that I think readers would really like; like these one pan meals. Things like that; she blows me away constantly. She’s such a hustler, and she’s coming out with her first book this year, I’m so excited about it. And we’re going to be able to spend some time together at PaleoFx. So welcome to the show Ms. Lexi! Lexi Kornblum: Thank you! I’m happy to be here. Cassy Joy: I’m happy to have you here! This is so fun. Lexi Kornblum: I love it. Cassy Joy: Well, you could probably do a much better job, as always, of telling folks about your story thank I can, even though I stalked you thoroughly {laughs} before the call. But tell folks about your story, and I know you’re outside of Boston now, so what led you to Boston and what led you to starting LexisCleanKitchen.com? Lexi Kornblum: Yeah, totally. So, I’m originally from New York, and I’ve been in Boston for 4 years now. I went to college at UMass Amherst and then met my fiancé Mike, and we decided to move here after I went to graduate school. So that’s why I’m here. In terms of Lexi’s Clean Kitchen; well, did you know that I was an elementary art teacher? Cassy Joy: I did. Lexi Kornblum: Ok, so I was an art teacher until this past June, and I was also blogging. So I was blogging full time, I was teaching full time. I loved both but it was too much. [barking] Cassy Joy: Aww, hey Jax! It’s ok. {laughs} This is real life. Lexi Kornblum: Ok, good. So, I started Lexi’s Clean Kitchen about 3 years ago, and about 3.5-4 years ago I had horrible stomach issues. I had, what now I know was leaky gut and Candida and all sorts of stuff, but I didn’t know what was going on. I was bloated, I couldn’t go to the bathroom, I had all sorts of issues. It came to a point where it was getting in the way of my daily activities, so I decided to start an elimination diet. It was like, something has to change. So I started cutting out gluten and dairy, and I felt good but I didn’t feel 100% awesome or anything like that yet. So I took it a step further; cut out grains, cut out refined sugar, and some other stuff, and started feeling a lot better. Like, significantly life changing.

I’m joined today by the lovely Bethany McDaniel. She is just a shining example of seeing an opportunity, or seeing potential in an industry, and making it happen with regards to just background, believes, perspective on I think just where the paleo food industry and just good quality healthy living can go. And she’s making some of those things possible. She is an owner; I guess that’s the right way to put it. The owner {laughs} with her husband in Primally Pure, it’s a skincare line. You guys, if you follow me on social media you’ve probably seen me post about them, or some of these products in the past. I absolutely adore them. And then of course, Primal Pastures, which is the farm that they built and live on where they sell chicken and pork and beef; lamb and a bunch of other wonderful foods that Bethany can talk to you about, but they sell it to, they’re local to southern California and that’s who they usually sell the products to, but they also do farm tours, so they can walk people around and help them see the process, you know. Know thyroid food and know where it comes from kind of idea, so she’s got some really great vision for both of those companies, I know. And it’s really an honor to have you on the show, Bethany. I’ve always adored you. I’ve always adored your outlook and your style and the things that you put out there. I just think it’s so great, and you’re just so great to talk to in general, so thanks for coming on the show! Bethany McDaniel: Aww, thank you Cassy. It’s so nice to be chatting with you today; I’m so excited. Cassy Joy: Me too, likewise. Well, you can do a much better job of talking about your story than I can. {laughs} Bethany McDaniel: No, you made it sound awesome {laughs}. Cassy Joy: Oh, did I? Good. Bethany McDaniel: Yeah. Cassy Joy: That’s one of my goals with these, is I want to feel the warm fuzzies. Bethany McDaniel: {laughs} I did. 1. Introducing our guest, Bethany McDaniel [2:23] Cassy Joy: Oh good! But please, share a little bit more about your background. I know you kind of have an interesting story, but what brought you to California, brought you to the farm, and then brought you to start this amazing beauty line. Bethany McDaniel: Yeah, so it’s all kind of happened over the course of the last really four years or so since my husband and I got married. We actually both grew up in southern California, and then moved to Arizona after we got married,

Ep. 59: Special Guest Jen Rulon Coach & 9x Ironman Athlete Today I interview 9 time ironman athlete and accomplished triathlon coach, Jen Rulon, about the importance of strength training for endurance events, proper timing for carb loading, and her most recent experience as a TEDx presenter. TOPICS: 1. Introducing our guest, Jen Rulon [3:36] 2. Benefits of strength training [8:59] 3. How much rest is enough for recovery [13:24] 4. Using nutrition for recovery [17:18] 5. Carb loading before an endurance event [24:13] 6. Jen’s TEDx Talk [26:53] 7. Quick tips for getting started endurance training [40:29] Cassy Joy: Good morning everybody! I’m excited to be back. I took a little bit of a hiatus; a break so I could get some work done on my book, but we’re back, better than ever. I decided that I really want to enter into a phase where I am interviewing some of the people who I love and respect in this industry, and one of the first names that came to mind is a dear friend of mine. Her name is Jen Rulon, and Jen and I both live in San Antonio, Texas, and she’s an incredible lady for a lot of reasons. But just to give you a brief bulleted overview, and then I’m going to let Jen take it away, tell you a little bit more about herself, but she is a 9-time Ironman athlete. The lady is just incredible. I’m constantly in awe of watching her incredible successes with these events. She’s also a coach; she’s coached and motivated athletes not only to get their first triathlon, but some of them to get up to their third ironman triathlon. And she really does an incredible job of guiding her athletes to learn beyond the physical aspects of just doing the training and the event itself. She has learned how to structure live with the Ironman triathlon training, so really how to combine, I know that’s a passion of hers; how to look past just the training and incorporate it with your everyday life, and I’m going to have her tell you more about that. But she received her Master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science, and started her business, JenRulon.com. You will also see some of her knowledge shared in Runner’s World, Men’s Online Journal, WebMD, and she was just most recently a TEDx speaker. I’m so thrilled to introduce you guys to the very sweet, very knowledgeable, and very strong Jen Rulon. Thank you so much for coming on the show, Jen. Jen Rulon: Thanks for having me, Cassy. Wow, what an introduction. It’s pretty crazy, sometimes as a business owner, as an athlete you just sort of sit there, and you’re like, “oh, I need to do this better, I need to do that more.” And I’m like, dang, I’ve done a lot! {laughs} Cassy Joy: Yeah you have! That’s so funny. It’s so true, it’s so true. We sit down at our computers, and we work; us type-A trying to make it better and better personalities. It’s pretty cool to sit back. You have accomplished a lot, and I’ve always admired you. I was thinking about it; I moved back to San Antonio and started working at LuLuLemon. Jen Rulon: Yeah. Cassy Joy: Which I think is where you and I first connected. Jen Rulon: That’s correct. Cassy Joy: Is it? Ok. And that was almost 7 years ago.

 Ep. 58: Stay Fed+Fit at a Sporting Event | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:14

The Fed+Fit Podcast | Nurturing a Healthy Mindset for a Healthy Lifestyle We're back with our 58th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." I would LOVE some feedback, so feel free to leave a review in iTunes, comment below, or even give us a shout on social media! Ep. 58: Stay Fed+Fit at a Sporting Event Today we’re going to talk about some Fed and Fit behind the scenes updates, and also some good, better, best food and beverage options that you can find at sporting events. Cassy Joy: Good morning everybody! I hope you guys had an awesome weekend, and you’re getting ready for another great week. So to start off on today’s show, I want to once again apologize for sound quality. If you hear some background noise, it’s because there is some background noise. {laughs} I am in the car commuting right now, and it just seemed like a really great time to go ahead and record this show. The thoughts for today’s show are fresh at the top of my mind, plus I am, as you guys know, very richly scheduled at the moment so it’s nice when I’m able to multitask. So thank you for sticking with me. And to fill you in, if you are unaware of what’s going on over in this Fed and Fit world; I am; let’s see, we are coming into the middle of March and in the middle of July my first book will be coming out. It is part cookbook, part complete overview of really my personal philosophy of food and fitness. So I will have a sample of my 28-day food and fitness program in the book, the Fed and Fit Project if you’re familiar with it. That thing that I offered online; that thing. {laughs} That program that I offered online starting last fall, and we have since taken it down, offline while I was writing the book and also rebuilding the online format. So there’s a whole bunch of stuff in the works. And if you guys are seeing less of me on social media, if I’m not as available as much, I promise I’m still working for you, it’s just kind of the behind the scenes stage of my business right now. I feel like Oz behind the curtain, pulling all kinds of pulleys and triggers, and getting things set up for a really great show. That will all really, really kick off this summer. So in the meantime, although I'm not posting weekly recipes on my blog right now. I’ll be able to pick those up as soon as I’m over this next big hump of the book, the work, but I am still committed to these podcasts on a weekly basis. So I'm at least able to touch in, provide some new content, say hello, and just serve as a reminder that I’m still here for you guys. So if you ever do want to hear more from me, please come find me on social media. Of course on Instagram, but I recently really started to get into one of the new social media platforms; new to me at least, called SnapChat. And if you are not already familiar with SnapChat, I highly recommend you look into it. To be completely honest, my youngest sister, Samantha, who has joined me on the podcast before for that Fed and Fit college student miniseries, Samantha is 5 years my junior, and she’s kind of my anchor as far as what the young, hip kids are up to, and she’s been trying to convince me to get on SnapChat for years now, and I have resisted because I thought; I don’t know I kind of had some preconceived notions about that platform. So I decided, no I’m good with my Instagram and from what little I understand about Facebook. But I finally jumped in with both feet, and you guys, it is such a fun platform. If you follow me on there, you know how much I’m enjoying it because I post all the time. So SnapChat, you would have to look me up by my username, @FedandFit, just like I am across all the other platforms. And really what I post there,

Ep. 57: Special Guests Simone Miller and Jennifer Robins On today’s episode, I’m joined by Simone Miller of Zenbelly and Jennifer Robbins of Predominantly Paleo to talk about their brand new collaborative cookbook; the New Yiddish Kitchen. Topics: 1. Introducing our guests, Simone Miller and Jennifer Robbins [1:10] 2. Book collaboration, The New Yiddish Kitchen [10:36] 3. Most difficult recipes to perfect [13:28] 4. A go-to dinner for Simone and Jennifer [18:01] 5. Advice for the newbies [22:18] 6. Favorite part of the job [27:39] Cassy Joy: On today’s show, I am absolutely thrilled to be joined by a couple of truly admirable ladies. Powerhouses in their own right, Simone Miller of Zenbelly blog/catering business, and author of the Zenbelly cookbook; and then Jennifer Robbins of Predominantly Paleo and author of both Down South Paleo and the Paleo Kids Cookbook joined up in a recent collaboration to publish The New Yiddish Kitchen Cookbook. It is scheduled to release March 8th, which if you’re listening to this show when it comes out on Monday March 7th, that’s tomorrow! What a really big day. I can’t thank these two enough for joining me on the show, and I’m excited for you guys to hear all about their stories in this awesome new collaboration. Welcome to the show, ladies! 1. Introducing our guests, Simone Miller and Jennifer Robbins [1:10] Simone Miller: Thanks for having us! Jennifer Robbins: Thank you! Cassy Joy: Oh my gosh, so much fun. I’ve been looking forward to it all morning. {laughs} Jennifer Robbins: Us too. Cassy Joy: Oh good! And we finally sorted out our technical difficulties so I feel like we’re ready to take on the world. Simone Miller: Absolutely. Cassy Joy: Totally. So I know each of you have your own story and journey that’s lead you to paleo, because I stalked you thoroughly before the call {laughs}. I’ve read all the details, so if you leave anything out, don’t worry I can fill it in. Everybody: {laughs} Cassy Joy: But to start off, I would love if you would share a little bit about your story with today’s listeners. Simone Miller: Sure. Well, this is Simone, and my story really began in food more than in the health side of things, and I’ve just been in the food business a really long time, cooking in kitchens since I was in college, and always sort of resisted cooking for a living, mostly because my family is in the food business and always told me how hard it was. {laughs} Mostly my uncle; “never go into the food business,” he said, and of course I’m such a good listener. Cassy Joy: {laughs} Simone Miller: So I resisted it but always loved it, and worked in restaurants. Long story short, once I wound up out in California after moving here from the East Coast, I wanted to get back into food, but I didn’t want to work in a restaurant anymore. So I started doing personal chefing, and that turned into catering, and basically as soon as I said; ok, this is it, I’m doing it, I’m starting a catering business,

Ep. 56: Set Your Limits vs. Let Your Limits Set Themselves Today’s episode is another live Periscope recording, so please excuse some of the poor sound quality. As another live forum, we talk about the difference between defining your limits and allowing your limits to define themselves. Cassy Joy: So today’s episode, or Scope I should say, is going to be another podcast recording. Bonjour! Did I say it right? And I’m actually dialing in from this awesome office that I have access to. It’s a standing treadmill desk is what I’m on right now, and you guys are propped up against my computer screen. So it’s a pretty sweet set up, and I’m very grateful to have access to this. So, what I kind of want to talk about today is, this is, like I said before, another podcast recording that I wanted to do live in case you guys had some questions and we could incorporate that into the show. So in case you don’t know me, and you’re new here, hi there! My name is Cassy Joy Garcia. I am the owner and founder of FedandFit.com. I have a weekly podcast, a healthy mindset, food and fitness podcast that is published every Monday. They’re about 30-minute episodes; today’s is going to be shorter. I have the food blog and an upcoming book, which I announced just this past week. The Fed and Fit Book, you can find it on Amazon. Very exciting stuff. I’m just kind of all over the place. If you guys are long time followers, thank you so much for dialing in, I appreciate it. You guys always feel like family. So what I want to talk about today, and feel free to hop on if you have any questions. I will try to answer as many as I can while I’m going through this work. So just to give you guys an update if you’re curious on what I’ve been working on lately. I’m still working on finishing the book, and that has been a really fun adventure. Honestly, at this point I thought I would be finished; hi from France again! I thought that I would be finished with the book by now, with the manuscript at least, and into just the editing process. But it’s a little bit of a longer process than that. Some things that I had scheduled for myself now are running into me also writing the book and meeting some of my other commitments. So it’s kind of an interesting season, a really fun one. I like being richly scheduled. This is something I really thrive in, which is something I kind of want to talk about today. I want to go into that. So that’s what I’m doing. Monday I’m headed to go do a corporate wellness presentation at another firm out of Houston, Texas this time, so I’ll be hopping in the car and driving myself. And so; oh thank you for the hearts! And so I’m spending the weekend on this treadmill writing and just trying to get ahead of the week. There’s no better feeling than starting off a Monday feeling like you got two bonus days under your wings. Ok, so. What; I do not speak French. I’m a Garcia, actually, and I even speak less Spanish, if you can believe it. Ok, so what I want to talk about today. Today’s episode is defining limits versus growing into them. This is something I’ve come across a lot, not just with people I’ve worked with one on one clients, but also family members, friends. This is something where, if you guys are here, whether if this resonates with you or it resonates because you interact with somebody that is this way. Hi, from San Antonio. Ok,

Ep. 55: 5 Things You Can Do to Have a GREAT Day | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:44

The Fed+Fit Podcast | Nurturing a Healthy Mindset for a Healthy Lifestyle We're back with our 55th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." I would LOVE some feedback, so feel free to leave a review in iTunes, comment below, or even give us a shout on social media! Ep. 55: 5 Things You Can Do to Have a GREAT Day Today is a unique podcast, as I recorded it live during a Periscope. Please forgive some of the poor audio, and my getting sidetracked by a couple of questions. In this episode, you’re going to hear my 5 methods that help to ensure I personally have a great day. I hope you enjoy it, and are able to apply some of the tips in your own life. Cassy Joy: So, today what we’re going to talk about is how to have a happier, healthier day. And I have prepared some notes, and I’m going to kind of work through them, but I would love to see this kind of turn into a forum and would like to get your thoughts as we’re working through it. Alrighty; so to start off, what we’re going to talk about today. You know, it’s really just some basic stuff that sounds so common sense; yeah, it’s like a forum, exactly! I have to do better about responding to you guys without derailing my thoughts. I’m going to work on being a better multitasker. These are really, really basic practices, and they kind of sound like “no-duh” moments. They’re going to sound very intuitive, but at the end of the day these are all these things I personally have to remind myself of and I’m not always great about staying on top of them. So I think it’s good just to flesh these ideas out, and talk about things that we can do both today and tomorrow to make tomorrow a really, really great day. Thank you guys so much for inviting followers; I really appreciate that. This is going to a pretty short scope; probably 15 minutes or so, just to give yourself an idea. So let’s jump into it. Basic practices that make a huge difference, right? We all have a lot of things going on. We’ve got a lot of goals, we’ve got a lot of balls up in the air. I constantly have the analogy of little plates on dowels that we’re spinning and we’re trying to keep all of them balanced and we have to move from one plate to another to spin it, and thanks again for inviting followers guys. I think there’s a way to really maximize your efforts and feel like you’re still in control. Because what we really want to avoid is that feeling at the end of the day; it’s like 2 p.m. rolls around and we feel like we’re just now starting the day. Has anybody else ever had that feeling? Where you start off with great intentions, you jump out of bed in the morning, and then you start working on some things, maybe you hadn’t planned on working on. You unload the dishwasher, and that turns into; oh, you know I really need to go to the grocery store and restock on this, and the next thing you know the afternoon rolls around and you’re just now jumping into the things that you really wanted to accomplish for that day. So this whole idea that I want to talk about is things we can do to put ourselves in the driver’s seat really purposefully and make the most happen. So tip number one; I say we write tomorrow’s to-do list today. And again, this might sound like a, “well, no kidding,” moment to a lot of people listening, but I’m the kind of person that, in the past I like to write the to-do list first thing in the morning. I’d sit down with my cup of coffee, and I’d think; oh, these are the things I want to do today. And I’d write them down, and I would say; that’s my plan. However, let me tell you the reason why; it’s exactly right. It is so easy to do small house chores instead of the big important thing.

 Ep. 54: Dating a Paleo Woman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:33

The Fed+Fit Podcast | Nurturing a Healthy Mindset for a Healthy Lifestyle We're back with our 54th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Ep. 54: Dating a Paleo Woman According to 3 Non-Paleo Bachelors On today's episode, 3 non-paleo bachelors share their thoughts on dating a paleo woman. Cassy Joy: And we’re back with another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Thanks so much for dialing in everybody. I am so excited about today's episode. It's kind of a little fun pet project of mine. I got this wild idea for an episode based on some questions that ladies had been emailing me. I like to think of myself as, I have some of the answers. But I definitely don’t have all of the answers. But I will bring you the people that at least have those other answers that I don’t. So for this one, it was all about dating. I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about, really just how to handle. I’m really just going to speak to just the ladies on today's episode. but you’re a gal, and you're out on a date. Or you like a guy, or he’s already asked you out. When is the appropriate time to tell him that you follow a paleo lifestyle? When do you tell him that you like CrossFit? Because some of us; a lot of ladies, at least that have been writing me are kind of afraid of the connotations associated with all that stuff. So I thought who better to ask than my three most favorite eligible non-paleo bachelors. So, bachelor number one. I am so pleased to introduce you guys to Dr. Preston Carlisle. Preston is a second-year psychiatric resident at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He and I have known each other for about 15 years. Which, probably made me feel older than anything I've ever written in my entire life {laughs}. We both attended Health Careers high school, actually, in San Antonio. It was a magnet school. And Preston did me the honor of attending senior prom as my date. So I don't want you to be too intimidated, ladies, but I have to brag on Preston just a minute. He's spent a year playing semi-professional football, graduated from Brown Medical School, and has his own incredible wealth of personal nutrition and fitness experience. Especially as it relates to his time spent in athletics in high school and then in college and then in that semi-professional league. So he's a really great resource. I don’t know, Preston. I don’t think you consider yourself paleo, which is why I thought you’d be perfect for this show. Plus, you're funny, and you're a straight shooter, and I know you'll give me some straight answers. So welcome to the show! Preston Carlisle: Thanks for that introduction that is only going to lead to disappointment for all of your listeners. That was very nice. Some of the things sounded maybe true. Cassy Joy: {laughs} They’re all true. They’re all true. That’s my favorite part of this job, actually, when I interview people. Is bragging on them. Because it’s so much fun. It’s so much fun to hear somebody else say what you do. It always sounds better than when you say it in your head. Well cool. I'm excited. You know, I want to pick your brain on the dating scene. You and I haven't lived in the same state in 15 years just about. So we've kept in touch with phone, and social media and things like that. But I’d love to kind of hear your perspective. You always have a unique perspective on things. Preston Carlisle: {laughs} Cassy Joy: {laughs} So, first off. Preston Carlisle: That was a very nice way of saying that. Cassy Joy: I don’t know what you mean by that. {laughing} I’m just kidding.

Ep. 53: Moving Past a Mental or Motivation Block | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:05

The Fed+Fit Podcast | Nurturing a Healthy Mindset for a Healthy Lifestyle We're back with our 53rd episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." I would LOVE some feedback, so feel free to leave a review in iTunes, comment below, or even give us a shout on social media! Ep. 53: Moving Past a Mental or Motivation Block On today’s episode, I’m dialing in out on a walk with Gus to share some of my thoughts on mental blocks maybe that are keeping you from finding that same motivation that you had when you first started on a new project or working towards a new goal, and how to really actively work to get past them. Cassy Joy: Good morning everybody! I hope this finds you well. I am talking to you from a walk that I am on with my puppy dog, Fed and Fit Gus. It is a very richly scheduled season for us right now; by us I mean me {laughs} all Gus really has to do is eat and keep me company during the day. I’m working on some big projects, and if you’ve been following along on social media, you are pretty much up to speed on all the details I can share at this moment, but some of those really fun exciting announcements are coming soon. So there’s a lot going on, so I’m multitasking; while Gus is strolling around our neighborhood trail, I thought I’d dial in and really just kind of share some of my thoughts that I have right now. So, to kick this week off; this is our last week in January, we’re kind of coming to the end of that first month where we had all of these New Years’ resolutions or, maybe not resolutions. I know a lot of folks just made goals for the New Year. We really just wanted to make a declaration. There are a lot of folks who I know said they wanted to be more positive in 2016, or; goodness, just cook from home more often. They didn’t really put a number on it, but just wanted to set the intention. And I think that’s great. So I’m not necessarily speaking exactly to you guys, because that’s something you can very easily keep up, and you probably are not grading yourself on it. What I want to talk to; I’m sorry if y’all hear the rustling of my jacket. So what I really want to talk to are those of us who have a tendency to grade our performance on the goals that we set for ourselves. So, it’s kind of; this can turn into a little bit of a slippery slope when we have a hard time either keeping up motivation, or if we easily become discouraged by our progress or lack of progress. Or maybe lack of where we thought we would be. So that’s really what I’m speaking to. And it resonates with me right now, because I’m working on all of these big work projects, and these same sorts of things do come up. These mental blocks; these moments where you wonder, do I really have the motivation to make this happen? So that’s what we’re going to talk about really briefly on this morning walk with myself and Gus. So thanks for joining me; and if you hear me have to chitter chatter with Gus, I hope you’re ok with it. {laughs} And if we pass a neighbor, don’t mind me saying hi to the neighbor, either; it’s a nice friendly neighborhood. Ok, so, let’s talk about motivation blocks. You know, you guys might laugh at me when I tell you this, but I was recently watching; I do watch the occasional Netflix show. I know some folks who I talk to, they’re like; how do you even have time to watch TV? There’s always time to watch Netflix. {laughs} There’s always time, whether you’re folding laundry or you’re recipe testing or something in the kitchen; there’s time to have it on just to keep your mind off of whatever may be overwhelming you at the moment, it’s a nice distraction. One of the shows that I recently watched; because I was looking for a sho...

Macy Diulus: {laughs} 1.

 Ep. 51: Ask Me Anything! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:39

Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." I would LOVE some feedback, so feel free to leave a review in iTunes, comment below, or even give us a shout on social media! Ep. 51: Ask Me Anything! On today’s episode of the Fed and Fit podcast, I’m answering your questions. We’re talking about everything, from how I transitioned my blog from a hobby to a business; some of my favorite skin care products; tips for getting out of the mindset of calorie-counting; and what we feed my Fed and Fit Gus. Topics: 1. Transitioning the blog from a hobby to a business [2:15] 2. Skin Care/Hair Care/Makeup Routine [17:39] 3. Getting out of the calorie counting/food tracking mindset [21:41] 4. What Fed and Fit Gus eats [24:48] 5. Thoughts on intermittent fasting [27:41] 6. How long for results on paleo [32:30] 7. Pre workout meals [35:26] 8. How to build muscle [36:54] 9. Natural sugars occurring in fruit [40:57] Cassy Joy: Good morning everybody! Welcome back to episode 51 of the Fed and Fit podcast. I’m just tickled to have you here. Today is kind of an unusual episode; I like to do these every once in a while, just to kind of keep things fresh and let you guys know that I’m listening to your questions and I’m happy to answer them. So, today we’re doing an ask me anything episode, and really what this entails is, a couple of days ago I posted on social media that I was going to record an ask me anything episode, and I asked you guys to submit some questions, and you did. You gave me some great ones. So I’m going to take my time working through them. You’ve got some really good questions here lined up, and if you are interested in asking me more questions that I don’t answer in today’s show, or if I don’t get to your question, please feel free to shoot me an email. I will do my best to get to it. You can contact me through the contact form on my website; or you can shout out on social media. I am, of course, on Instagram and Facebook but I’ve recently started to dabble in the Snap Chat world. Snap Chat makes me feel like I’m 97 years old {laughs} because I don’t really understand it all that much. But I’m committed; we’re going to figure this bad boy out. I have a feeling we’re going to have a lot of Gus videos and random happenings from the day there. And luckily, if you guys remember that Fed and Fit college student miniseries that I did with my sister and higher education expert/pro, Samantha Garcia, she has committed to help me figure out this Snap Chat thing, because apparently she’s got it all figured out. So, we’re going to get through it. 1. Transitioning the blog from a hobby to a business [2:15] Alrighty, so today’s episode. Like I said, it’s an ask me anything. In no particular order, I’m just going to start rolling through some of these questions. And I haven’t prepared any of these, so you guys are getting off the cuff kind of answers, just as if we’re on a phone call and you ran a question by me, and I told you just what I thought. Because I wanted to make sure it was as genuine as possible; I didn’t want anything to sound rehearsed by any means. Alrighty, let’s get into it. First question is by RollPaleo on Instagram. RollPaleo asks; “Hi Cassy! I’d love to hear more about what prompted you to transform your blog from a hobby to a business, and how you went about that transition. Thanks! Sorry this isn’t a question, just something I’d like to hear more about. Hope that’s ok.” Of course that’s ok, Role Paleo!

Ep. 50: Good Advice vs. Good Advice …and how to choose a side | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:54

The Fed+Fit Podcast | Nurturing a Healthy Mindset for a Healthy Lifestyle We're back with our 50th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." I would LOVE some feedback, so feel free to leave a review in iTunes, comment below, or even give us a shout on social media! Ep. 50: Good Advice vs. Good Advice ...and how to choose a side On today’s episode, I’m talking about good advice versus good advice, and how you can choose a side. And just as a preview, the side I suggest you choose is your side. Cassy Joy: Welcome back everybody! Thank you for joining me again on the Fed and Fit podcast. Today is episode number 50! 50 that’s so cool! It reminds me of the SNL skit; “I’m 50! 50 years old!” Well today we are going to talk about something that has kind of been a burr in my saddle for a little while. If you can hear that orchestra of barking dogs in the background {laughs} we are puppy sitting once more for my whole family. There are 6 of them, so that’s 24 little footies, and 6 sweet little faces I get to kiss. Some advice I had gotten, kind of in line with today’s episode. We’re talking all about advice, but some of the advice I got was that people really liked the episodes where I just kind of wing it and talk about things that are on my mind instead of silencing myself off in my little home studio, I am just going to talk to you from home because we’re cooking, and this is real life, and this is just a snap shot, dropping by to kind of share some of my thoughts with you. So that’s what I’m going to do; it’s a lot easier, and if y’all enjoy it more, then by golly I will meet you there. So, the burr in my saddle that I want to talk about is good advice versus good advice. There is no shortage of advice givers and pieces of advice out there in the world. Myself being one of them, of course. How in the world are we supposed to navigate this enormous sea of pieces of advice? Everybody conflicts with everybody, they all stand on their own island. Again, myself being one of them; projecting our thoughts and what we think of the world and what works for us, and we make these blanket statements like, “there’s no other options for you to consider! It’d be ridiculous if you considered any other lifestyle!” Or path to health and wellbeing, or path to starting a business, or way to have a relationship, how to raise a baby. There’s an endless supply of advice, it all contradicts, and how the heck are we supposed to choose? I just kind of want to pull back and talk about some of that right now. Especially with the New Year rolling around; there was a lot of good advice out there, and they all disagreed with each other. But there was a lot of advice on whether or not you should start a New Year Resolution. And at the end of the day, it can be really confusing if you don’t think that everybody, all the advice givers, if they don’t sit down and put their heads together or come up with a consensus, or say pointedly that they do agree with somebody or they don’t agree with somebody. It’s difficult as a consumer of advice to figure out where does all of this line up? Did somebody who say “don’t have a New Year Resolution”, did they consider all of these other possible benefits of having one? So it can be pretty confusing and overwhelming, and I think where I’m coming from in this business is I’m trying to give advice, and I’m speaking from what works for me, and I’m speaking from the heart, and I’m speaking from the feedback that you guys give me. What resonates with me; what you really enjoy, and what inspires you. So I use that, and I roll it all up with my personal experiences; I roll that in with all of my continued education,
