Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today, I am so excited to bring you another reverse interview. And if you are a new listener here, I’ll briefly describe what I mean by that {laughs} because it’s probably a new concept. So a reverse interview; this concept is an idea that came to me when I was emailing with some really wonderful folks who had some great questions. And of course, I always make a point to answer all the questions. Because there’s nothing worse than having your question go unanswered. And when folks would ask really good questions that I thought more people could benefit from, maybe the conversation or the answers, it dawned on me that maybe I should invite them to come onto a Skype call {laughs} and we’ll record the conversation, and if everything turns out well could possibly publish it as a podcast episode. And it kind of is the idea that I’m inviting a Fed and Fit reader/listener to come on the show and interview me with whatever pressing questions that they have; with the hopes that it resonates with more than just then. And if it doesn’t, then that’s awesome. I’m happy to have helped one person {laughs}. So that is the concept. Today, I’m joined by the lovely Nina. Welcome to the show, Nina. Nina: Hi, thank you for having me Cassy. Cassy Joy: Oh, thanks for coming on. I’ll tell you guys briefly about Nina, and then the way that these shows work is that I will pass the microphone; not actually because Nina and I are not in the same room, {laughs} but I will give her the baton, give her the floor really to ask whatever questions she’s got. And she’s got me for the next 30-ish minutes; maybe less, maybe a little bit more; who knows at this point. Nina: {laughs} Cassy Joy: So just to tell you briefly; she lives in San Marcos, Texas, which is amazing because we’re practically neighbors.

 Ep. 93: How-to Get Your Day Back | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:13

On today's episode, we’re talking about how to avoid the feeling like we’ve lost control of our day and the things we can do right now to get our day back on track. We're back with our 93rd episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Episode 93 Transcription On today’s episode, we’re talking about how to avoid the feeling like we’ve lost control of our day, and the things we can do right now to get our day back on track. Cassy Joy: Welcome back t another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. I am your hostess, my name is Cassy Joy Garcia. I am the blogger and the author and the nutrition consultant; gosh, what else do I do? The podcaster, and the recipe developer, and the program coach behind the brand Fed and Fit. You can find me on the web over at http://FedandFit.com. And then you can also find my book in stores nationwide right now, it’s called; you guessed it! Fed and Fit. You can find it on shelves at Barnes and Noble, you can find it on Amazon, and also in Costco right now nationwide, which is pretty dang cool if you ask me. I am pretty excited about today’s episode. We are getting back to one of the real; I guess original purposes behind this podcast was really to talk about mindset. I like to sprinkle; between a bunch of really fun interviews, and every once in a while we get really geeky and we get really science-y into some really interesting topics, I also like to sprinkle in some mindset shows where we just talk about how to maintain a healthy, positive mindset. If you’re a new listener here, you know that I’ve been doing a little bit more of this towards the beginning of the year, the beginning of 2017, because this seems to be the season when we set a lot of expectations for ourselves, and then if things don’t go exactly as planned, we almost want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, right? We’re like, well, that’ didn’t go exactly as I planned so let’s go back to where we were before. I’m going to learn nothing from this, and we’re just going to have to start all over again next January, or {laughs} whenever the timing is. So, today’s episode we’re just going to zero in. we’re not going to be that grand and talk about resolutions or anything, but I just want to zero in on a very small, very approachable topic that I think is relevant to most everybody. So we’re going to talk about how to salvage an almost lost day. Now, what do I mean by that. Think about those days when you wake up, and you’ve got a really good idea of what you want to do in the day, or maybe you have some hopes. You have some hopes, your feet hit the ground, you get out of bed, you have that cup of coffee in your hand, and you think to yourself; “Yes! This is going to be a really good day. I’m going to do all kinds of awesome things, I’m going to feel so accomplished. Maybe I’ll even squeeze in a workout and I’m probably going to eat really well because I’ve been building some good habits. It’s going to be gravy!” I’m one of those people; and maybe not everybody is like this, but I tend to always wake up thinking, “This is it! This is going to happen! It’s all going to happen.” Instead of the opposite. And then real life comes into play, right? And then sometimes the day takes off, and all of those tasks that I had in mind that I wanted to accomplish start getting pushed further and further down the timeline as I get distracted with other things that I have to do. And they feel really important. They feel like tasks that I need to focus on as well, but for whatever reason you get that kind of like you missed something in your day. You know what I mean? I think, when I talk about this, I think about for example my mom.

Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today I’m joined by a very special guest; we’re going to talk about a very interesting topic. His name is Walid Abdul-Waham, and he is the pointy tip of the spear when it comes to bringing camel milk available to markets. I’m going to tell you a little bit about Walid, and then I will allow him to introduce himself more thoroughly. So a little bit of his back-story that I know if, is he was visiting his family in his home town of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, looking for raw milk. He was approached by a friend with a plastic bag of camel milk, of all things. Then he quickly realized camel’s milk was being used medicinally in the Middle East and the US for complex health problems. We’re going to learn all about that. When Walid moved to California, he appreciated how people valued a healthy lifestyle. He realized that this was the perfect place to start a camel milk company. After selling camel milk at mosques and ethnic food festivals, Walid’s business plan won the Marcia Israel award; did I say that correct, Walid? Walid Abdul-Waham: That’s right, yeah. Cassy Joy: {laughs} Yes! Nailed it. From USC. So he decided to leave his corporate real estate position and begin his camel adventure. Having made the big commitment, he went courting the world trying to spark camel milk revolution, and found the greatest and most friendly people. While looking for US camel herders in the Midwest, he came across a group known for being polite and down to earth. A group who didn’t exist in the Middle East; the wonderful Amish community, who exemplify hard work and cooperation. Watching them work together was and remains awesome to Walid. Walid felt that they deserved an easier way to bring their product to market, and he loves the quality of their camel milk. Welcome to the show, Walid! Walid Abdul-Waham: Thanks a lot, Cassy for having me. Cassy Joy: OH my goodness, it is my pleasure.

Episode 90 Transcription On today’s episode; Kristen Boehmer of Living Loving Paleo joins me to talk about her journey with Crohn’s disease; and how she took back her life with diet and mindset. Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today I’m joined by one of the most lovely young women I’ve had the pleasure of knowing professionally; we got to hang out a little bit this past summer. She really is incredibly genuine. She’s this light, bubbly, positive person, and I’m so excited to introduce Kristen Boehmer to you guys today. She’s the founder and creator of Living Loving Paleo; and from her own experience, is a true believer that food can be a powerful medicine. She was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 12, and then after spending far too many years in and out of the hospitals, and ultimately having her entire large intestine removed in 2011, she took back control of her own life by completely changing her diet and mindset. Her biggest mission is to share her story and knowledge with the world, as so many are needlessly suffering just like she once was. Kristen is here to show you how she believes that creating a positive mindset in eating real food has the ability to change your entire life. Welcome to the show, Kristen! Kristen Boehmer: That was the sweetest introduction ever; thank you Cassy! Cassy Joy: {laughs} Kristen Boehmer: I feel the same about you. Cassy Joy: Oh, you’re too kind. Kristen Boehmer: I mean it. Cassy Joy: I mean, really, I guess; we’ve kind of just touched back and forth online and social media for years. And I’ve admired the content you’ve put out there, and you really are truly positive and your genuine spirit comes across in all of your posts, so I’ve always been a fan. Kristen Boehmer: Thank you. Cassy Joy: And then I got to meet you, and your awesome husband. Kristen Boehmer: {laughs} That was so fun. Cassy Joy: It was so fun! This past summer we were in San Francisco for a book tour stop, and we got to spend some time together. I really did walk away knowing that I’d found a real friend, and a real; I don’t know, connection with another person from the internet. I’m just so excited. And I’m excited to introduce you to the Fed and Fit people. {laughs} Kristen Boehmer: Aww, thank you! I feel the exact same about you. When I came across you years ago, it was your positivity that just shined through your posts, and I was just instantly drawn to you. So thanks for being you. Cassy Joy: Oh my gosh; let’s just high five! {laughs} Kristen Boehmer: I know! {laughs} Cassy Joy: Across a couple of time zones. Well, you really do have a truly incredible blog. All of your work; I’ve always been impressed by it. What’s the one piece of your job now that you enjoy most? What’s the one thing you really enjoy most about Living Loving Paleo?

 Ep. 89: Healing Hashimotos with Michelle Hoover | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:44

On today's episode, I'm joined by Michelle Hoover who shares her powerful journey to healing Hashimotos. We're back with our 89th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Episode 89 Links Michelle's blog (Unbound Wellness): http://unboundwellness.com/ Michelle's 'Gut Healing' eBook: http://unboundwellness.com/guthealingbook/ Find Michelle on Instagram HERE. Find Michelle on Facebook HERE. Episode 89 Transcription On today’s episode, I’m interviewing Michelle Hoover, a blogger who wants to talk all about how you can powerfully heal from Hashimoto’s. Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today I’m joined by the most lovely Michelle Hoover. We’re going to talk about healing Hashimoto’s. and to tell you really quickly before I let Michelle introduce herself more in depth, I’ll tell you a little bit more about her. {laughs} I’ll tell you more about herself. See Michelle, this is one of those moments where if I did edit my podcast, I probably would have edited that part out {laughing}. Michelle Hoover: {laughs} Cassy Joy: Oh anyways. I just told her that unedited I feel like is just more fun. Ok, so more about Michelle. After living the first 17 years of her life feeling chronically unwell, Michelle Hoover was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, which is an autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid and affects weight, energy, mood, hormones, and pretty much just about everything else you can think of. She spent her early college years medicated and in a fog, until she discovered the autoimmune-gut connection, and everything changed after that point. After her diet changed, lifestyle, and targeting her gut health, she lives a drastically different life, free of debilitating Hashimoto’s and digestive symptoms. Michelle works one on one as a nutritional therapy practitioner; an NTP, and blogs about gut healing, living with Hashimoto’s, and autoimmune friendly paleo recipes at her blog, www.UnboundWellness.com. This January, she is releasing the 30-day gut healing diet plan and guide, which is designed to lead you on your own gut healing journey, just like she did to address her Hashimoto’s. Welcome to the show, Michelle! Michelle Hoover: Thank you so much, Cassy. I’m so excited to be here. Cassy Joy: Oh, I’m so excited to have you here. When Michelle emailed me and told me a little bit about herself, I really felt compelled to invite her immediately onto the show, because we’ve never; or have not ever, in the last 80-plus episodes, covered Hashimoto’s specifically. And I know it is probably one of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases afflicting more folks than any other, and I really wanted to bring you on because you have such a beautiful success story, you’ve got such a really good head on your shoulders and perspective, and I wanted folks to be able to hear from your firsthand how you’ve really confronted things head first. But yeah welcome to the show! Is there anything that I missed in your bio that you’d like to share in additional? In addition to that? {laughs} Michelle Hoover: {laughs} I think those are the things. If you hear any tiny pony galloping in the background it’s my cat, Stinky. Cassy Joy: {gasp} Cat Stinky! I was really hoping you were going to say, “If you hear any tiny pony galloping, it’s my tiny pony.” {laughs} Michelle Hoover: {laughs} He sounds like a tiny pony. He like gallops; it’s weird. So if you hear that, it’s my cat. {laughs} Cassy Joy: Ohh, Stinky, that’s so cute.

 Ep. 88: 5 Healthy Swaps to Make This Year | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:22

On today's episode, I'm sharing 5 healthy swaps you can make for a healthier, happier you this year! We're back with our 88th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Episode 88 Transcription On today’s episode, I’m talking about 5 easy swaps we can make in 2017 that will have huge pay out with regard to your long-term healthy lifestyle. Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. And Happy, Happy New Year! I hope this finds you well and having started off on the right foot in this New Year. And if you feel like you haven’t started off on the right foot; no sweat! Look at all the days ahead of us we have to start on the right foot {laughs}. So the important thing is that we are just putting one foot in front of the other and we are just doing our best. So don’t worry. I know there’s a lot of expectations and hopes going into the New Year. And there’s nothing wrong with those. There’s nothing wrong with New Years’ resolutions, and harnessing all this brand new start momentum and jazz around January 1st. There’s nothing wrong with that. But if you feel like the first few days don’t live up to your expectations, just remember that they were just that; they were just expectations. So; I wanted to start off today’s episode with just a quick reminder about that. Maybe a little perspective, as we remember that every day is a new day to get started. So, today’s episode is really aimed at those of you maybe you didn’t necessarily come up with a new years’ resolution; or maybe if you did, maybe it was just to be a little bit healthier. You know it could really be anything across the gamut. What I wanted to cover today are five easy swaps that we can all make in the new year to make a healthier, happier version of ourselves. And they’re really simple. And to be honest, if you’ve been following my work for a long time, you probably already do a lot of this stuff. And if you have not been following my work for a long time, then I hope that you’re able to get something significant from today. And even if you are a seasoned veteran, maybe you’ll get something out of it, as well. I hope I have got a surprise or two in here for you. Five easy swaps. I tend to; if you have followed my work for a long time, you probably know and understand really well now that I don’t really like to create or foster an environment of constructing unrealistic expectations of ourselves. Because what do we do when we make unrealistic expectations of ourselves? If we don’t follow through on those, then we tend to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Right? So if your New Year’s resolution was to, say, never eat another piece of bread again, and then come January 2nd someone offers you up; I don’t know, a cupcake, and it’s your favorite cupcake in the world and they pressure you into eating it, and you buckle and you have a bite of the cupcake. If you had these huge unrealistic expectations that you would never have another bite of bread or breaded good again, you might feel like you failed it. And if you failed it with one bite of a cupcake, then you might as well go home and have pasta for dinner and cereal for breakfast the next morning, because we’re officially off the bandwagon. That’s what they mean by throw the baby out with the bathwater. So what I like to do is foster an environment of; maybe let’s start thinking of goals; really, goals are really good, healthy activity to work through, and we do work through those very strategically within the Fed and Fit Project online; but I think it’s important to set goals as far as our mindset and our perspective with footnotes that make exceptions for real life. Right?

 Ep. 87: Using Thanks to Overcome Grievances | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:36

On today's episode, I'm sharing some quick thoughts about overcoming our grievances with an attitude of thanks. We're back with our 87th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Episode 87 Transcription On today’s episode, I’m sharing a thought on how instead of aiming to change our circumstances in 2017, we first aim to shift our mindset towards a more grateful, appreciative, present, focused heart. Cassy Joy: Hello, hello, hello! Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. I am your hostess, Cassy Joy Garcia, the owner of Fed and Fit; the book, blog, nutrition consulting practice, etc. {laughs} I’m excited about today’s episode. It’s going to be probably a relatively short one. The idea for today’s topic is one of those that has come to me several times during several evenings. You know that time right before you fall asleep at night and your mind is just all abuzz. Those really great, creative ideas come to you; you solve things that maybe have been mentally perplexing for a while. This is one of those ideas that has really; it’s come up over and over again, and I hope I do a good job of describing it. I have; some folks keep a notepad next to their bedside table to jot down these ideas. I tend to keep them in a notebook on my phone; one of those little notepads. So I have some scribbled notes to talk about it, but the memory is still really fresh. And to kind of begin with the end in mind, the point of this little mini story I’m going to tell you is really just because I want us to regain some perspective and some focus and find presence and appreciation for where we are right now before the new year comes. I’m talking to you; if you’re listening to this show on the day that it airs, the last Monday of 2016. Isn’t that so exciting! We have so much ahead of us, and so much behind us, and it’s just always just a special time of the year; you know, that transition between the years 2016 and 2017. There are so many memories, and so much promise for the years to come. So the thought that occurred to me; and again, I hope I do this story justice! I did a dry run with my family the other night at dinner; I was with, we were over at my parent’s house, and I just blurted out this idea, {laughs} and my parents just sat there blinking, staring at me for a second while they took in what I said. So this thought that came to me, and maybe part of it is exhaustion; making sure we’re getting The Project up and running and everything is full steam ahead; which it is, and it’s all so exciting. But I started thinking about, you know, we all go through life. Our daily life; and we have our daily life grievances that are small and minor. But they’re irritants, right? They’re little things. It’s like; I read somewhere on one of my social media platforms; Instagram, that’s what it was. Someone was going to try to make my smothered, slow-cooker pork chops. And she was so excited about it, and then she left a comment that she came home and her husband had left them out all day long on the countertop, so the chops were spoiled. And she was so bummed about it. Like those kind of little grievances. It’s not a make or break thing, but it’s irritating. Those kinds of things come up; or your kid is just pitching a fit one day, or just in a bad mood, or I don’t know. Your dog ate your favorite pair of high heels! {laughs} Or, you put your neck out there and you built a brand new program, and you have some programming issues, because that’s just what happens sometimes with new programs. Hi Ace! I’m being visited by the ranch puppy dog. So we all have those moments. You get in your car,

 Ep. 86: Reverse Interview with Listener Roxanne! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:48

On today's Reverse Interview, where I invite listeners to come on the show and ask their questions, listener Roxanne and I talk about possible Paleo-friendly forms of birth control and how to get that classic Paleo glow. We're back with our 86th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Episode 86 Links Check out Roxanne's blog, Glass of Glam, HERE! Episode 86 Transcription On today’s episode, we’re jumping into another reverse interview where reader Roxanne asks me some of her questions. We’re going to talk about paleo-friendly forms of birth control, and then we’re also going to talk about how to get that classic paleo glow. Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast! Today I am joined by Roxanne, who is in D.C.; Washington D.C. and today is another one of those special episodes where a listener/reader wrote in with a bunch of really good questions, and I wanted to invite her on the show to ask them while we recorded our conversation {laughs}. Because I figured the answers to her question, and probably the conversation that will evolve over the next 30 minutes could be of benefit to more than just Roxanne. We really feel like it could be of benefit to a bunch of you guys out there. So I hope you enjoy today’s call; I have no idea what questions she’s going to ask me, {laughs} so I haven’t prepared. But I’m going to roll with it and it’s going to be a lot of fun. Thanks for coming on the show Roxanne! Roxanne: Hey, Cassy, thank you so much for having me. Cassy Joy: Oh my gosh. The pleasure is mine! Roxanne: {laughs} Cassy Joy: I’m so excited about this! It’s just, I don’t like to leave emails unanswered, I don’t like to leave questions unanswered, and every once in a while; you know, I don’t know, somebody asks really good questions, and I think to myself; gosh, I either want to copy and paste this and make it into a blog post, which I never do because that’s work. Roxanne: {laughs} Cassy Joy: {laughs} Or, and then this idea came up. I haven’t decided what we’re calling these yet. By now I’ve probably decided and I said it in the intro; but I don’t know if I’m going to call them reverse interviews, you know, where you guys come on and interview me, or a live coaching call. I don’t know; we’ll play with it. We’ll figure it out. Roxanne: I love it. Cassy Joy: Anyways, I’m going to; I told Roxanne before I started recording, but what I’m going to do is I’m just going to pass the virtual baton all the way over to her, from Texas to D.C., and let her ask whatever questions she’s got for me. I know she has a fashion blog, so I’m sure some of her questions are going to be related to that. Her website, if you’re curious about Roxanne, is www.glassofglam.com, she told me before the show. I haven’t looked it up yet but I think it’s a really, really clever name, so congratulations on that. Roxanne: {laughs} Thank you. Cassy Joy: Of course. Well, ask away Roxanne, I’m here for you. Roxanne: Thank you, Cassy. Well, ok. I started eating paleo in about May of this year, and it’s been awesome. It’s been life changing, like it’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done for myself and my body. Cassy Joy: Awesome. Roxanne: But, I've been struggling lately with acne, and no matter how much I exercise, how much I eat right with paleo, drink water, I feel like I’m always bloated and I just can’t get that glow that so many paleo women have achieved; you know, you and Diane Sanfilippo have. And I really want that.

Cassy Joy: Welcome back to the Fed and Fit podcast! I hope this finds you well, and in the middle of a wonderful easy, breezy, holiday season. Today, I’m excited to talk about; this is a topic that has been swirling around. It’s really been this center point of a lot of my work. A lot of my work here on the podcast, within my Fed and Fit Project, which is my online food and fitness program. It’s a center theme of my book; the Fed and Fit book; and if you follow me on social media, you’ll probably see that this has kind of been a central theme across all of my social media platforms, and the thoughts and ideas that I share there. So we’re finally drilling down; I never claimed to be a quick learner, but I feel like we finally nailed what this topic is, and we’re going to succinctly put it today, and I’m going to take a stab at describing how it might apply in your life in various ways, and then also how to make some great positive changes, or strides, I should say. So today, the theme is we’re going to talk about progress versus perfection. Now I bring this up as somebody who has struggled with this concept in the past. And it’s one of those things that I constantly am aware of because I don’t ever want to let go of this progress mindset. Because I really found a tremendous amount of freedom in my life, in my relationships, in my health, in my work, in all of the things that I do because I came more progress minded instead of perfection minded. So if this is something that you think you might maybe struggle with a little bit, I hope that you enjoy today’s episode, and I hope that you get some really great little nuggets out of it. So how I’m going to break up today’s show is we’re going to talk about the different ways in which progress versus perfection may manifest in your life; so if you’re sitting there thinking, “I don’t know if this applies to me or not,” maybe we’ll just go ahead and brainstorm some ideas and you can see if anything resonates. And then to close out the show, we’re going to talk about how you could possibly make the switch from being perfection driven to progress driven.

Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today, I’m thrilled to bring you yet another reader; or listener, I guess we should say, reverse interview. These reverse interviews, of course, are when Fed and Fit listeners write in with really great questions, and I invite them to come on a phone with me! We record the call, they ask me their awesome questions, we get to have a really fun conversation, and then publish it to the podcast with the hopes that other folks out there listening; either they have the same questions and they can definitely benefit from this conversation we’re going to have, or maybe it brings up some things that some of you guys have never thought of before. So I’m really excited today to welcome the lovely Allie. She lives in Ames, Iowa, and she is a graduate student there studying student affairs and higher education, which is really cool, because that is actually my youngest sister, Samantha; that’s exactly what she got her graduate degree in, as well. Allie, I believe you said that you listened to that Fed and Fit college student mini-series we did here on the podcast a while ago. But it’s definitely a passion project of mine; I love working with higher education students, so welcome to the show! I cannot wait to jump into all your questions. Allie: Thank you! I’m so excited to be here. I’m excited as well. Cassy Joy: {laughs} Awesome! Well, what’s on your mind, girl? Is there anything you want to share with folks before we jump into some of the things you’ve got jotted down? Allie: Yeah, definitely. So, I’ll just touch on a little bit of a background of how I got these questions, because otherwise they don’t make a lot of sense of where I’m starting from. Cassy Joy: {laughs} Awesome. Allie: So, I grew up definitely a healthy lifestyle; my mom was a marathoner, my dad was a weight lifter. So they were definitely in the fitness realm,

Cassy Joy: Welcome back again to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. I am excited today to bring another; let’s call them reverse interview, shall we? {laughs} I don’t know what to call them. The lovely Sam from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and she graciously reminded me which state Milwaukee is in {laughs} so I could say that, is on the line today. She wrote me with some great questions, and I told her they were great questions, and I said; I knew that other folks probably had similar questions, or at least would love to hear the answer. So we’re going to have an awesome conversation today! Again, we’re flying by the seat of our pants. I did not refresh myself on all of her questions, so she’s going to ask them and we’re going to have just a live conversation. It’s going to be really fun; welcome to the show, Sam! Sam: Yay, I’m excited! Thank you so much for having me. Cassy Joy: Oh my gosh, the pleasure is all mine. Thank you for making time to come on and chat with me live. Sam: Alright; so just kind of going back to when I first emailed you. I kind of remember in the past you mentioned that you would sometimes take one to two full weeks off from working out, and I just kind of wanted to understand more about that, what the reasons are for doing that, what benefits you see from doing it. I feel like a lot of people struggle with taking time off from working out, and I just wonder what a full two weeks does for you. If you could just explain more about your experience with that? Cassy Joy: Yeah, that’s a great question! That’s why I was like; oh, please come and ask that on the recording. That’s an awesome question. It’s something I haven’t touched on a bunch, and I kind of want to talk about it some more. You know, I think that it’s important to take breaks from everything. It’s important to cycle things in and out, right. If we look at food; I do this a lot. I answer all the way around the question,

Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today is a very special episode, because we’re going to get a little geeky, a little science-y. I know there are some listeners here who have told me they love those kinds of episodes, and we’re going to do it today in the vein of the important piece of all health and wellness, lifestyle and healthy pursuits. A huge part of that is rest and recovery, and that’s what we’re going to focus on today. Specifically one method. So to join us on today’s call is Sloane Wendell. She’s an expert and the owner, actually, of the first float therapy spa in San Antonio, Texas, which is actually where I’m from. But the things we’re going to talk about today definitely apply in a worldly perspective. The name of her float therapy spa is called iSofloat. iSofloat is a specialized float therapy center that focuses on restrictive environmental stimuli therapy; REST; also known as floating! You’ve probably heard; maybe some of you have heard of this before. Floating is a tool for pain relief, wellness, and relaxation and it comes with a lot of different benefits. Float therapy allows our body to better equip themselves to deal with the stress and tension of living in today’s fast-paced world. And to tell us all about the science, all about the whys and some of her personal experiences, is my friend, Sloane. Thank you so much for joining us today, Sloane. Sloane Wendell: Well thank you, Cassy. It’s wonderful to be here. Thank you so much. Cassy Joy: Of course! This is going to be great. I’m so excited. Sloane was gracious enough; she invited me to come out and try a float, and I actually tried it last night, so this is less than 24 hours later, so I can give some personal experience. But I’m really; was really blown away. What got you first turned on to this whole idea of floating? Because you were the first one to tell me about it several years ago when you were talking about wanting to start this business here.

Lexi Kornblum Davidson: So, actually we were talking about it the other night. From start to finish, with the whole entire process, it was 2 years. But, in terms of just writing the book, I would say a year, and year and a half. Just all in. Cassy Joy: I know. You were {laughs}. I mean, Lexi and I were both in editing and writing process together on our books, and I remember at PaleoFx we were sitting there on the couch commiserating {laughs}.

 Ep. 80: Reverse Interview with Listener Tara! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:24

Today kicks off the very first Reverse Interview where I invite Fed & Fit readers who've written in with questions to come ask them on the show! Fed & Fit Reader Tara and I discuss healthy desserts, if nut butters are a healthy choice, thirst for hunger, transitioning from a diet to a lifestyle, when intentionally ingesting gluten is worth it, and the benefits of white over brown rice. We're back with our 80th episode of the Fed+Fit Podcast! Remember to check back every Monday for a new episode and be sure to subscribe on iTunes! Find us HERE on iTunes and be sure to "subscribe." Connect at: Episode 80 Transcription Today we’re kicking off the very first Fed and Fit reverse interview, where I invite readers to dial in and ask their questions on the line. Today we’ve got Tara, who talks about; we chat about healthy desserts, nut butters (if they’re healthy or not), thirst instead of hunger, interpreting those cues, transitioning from a diet to a lifestyle, when is gluten really worth it; and then why white rice over brown rice? Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. Today is an extra special episode, because we’re doing something totally different than what you have seen before on this show, and maybe on some other shows. So let me give you some background information before I introduce our very special guest. Every once in a while, folks will send me an email or they’ll comment on social media, whether it’s Instagram or Facebook, or even Snapchat. Gosh I love Snapchat because I can have conversations with people. And I love answering questions, and I love giving everybody, I guess just the answers that they’re looking for, or at least some direction or some reassurance. And it dawned on me that they can’t be the only ones with these questions. And that’s often true; if you have a question, sometimes people feel silly asking questions, and I always try to remind people, there’s no such thing as a dumb question, and you are definitely not the only one with those questions. So I thought; what would be a cool way that I could help answer these questions for these wonderful people in a way that may help and benefit more folks? So I got to thinking about it, and it’s something that I’ve thought about for a while, about maybe doing some sort of a reverse interview on the Fed and Fit podcast, where I invite people who email me with excellent questions, and I invite them on the show to essentially interview me. They get to ask all their questions, tell a little bit about themselves, and hopefully we can have a dialogue. This may turn into a mini; I don’t know if it’s going to be a mini nutrition coaching, or business coaching, or just overall healthy lifestyle coaching, but whatever it is, it would be fun to have a quick conversation, get it on record with these wonderful people. And I’m so excited to kick it off today with a lovely lady named Tara. She is joining us today, and I’m going to go ahead and turn it over to her to tell us a little bit about herself, and then the show is yours girl. I’m going to let you lead it wherever you want to go, and I am here to just chit chat and answer any of your questions. Take it away! {laughs} Tara: {laughs} Thanks Cassy. Awesome; I’m excited. This is, I think, a really cool step you're taking. I have so many questions; I feel like some are going to be silly, some might be a short answer, some might lead into more questions, but before I jump in; yes, my name is Tara, and I live in Seattle, Washington. Surprise, surprise, I work for Amazon. We have a lot of Amazonians here in the city, but I really enjoy it despite our grey skies and clouds and rains. But it doesn’t rain as much as you think. Cassy Joy: {laughs}
