Ep49 Woody Woods, Author of Conquer Your Dragons, On Overcoming Obstacles in Life | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:51:49

Adam Friday “Woody” Woods is a motivational speaker, and author of the book Conquer Your Dragons. Conquer Your Dragons is an inspirational children's story done in rhyme. In the story, a boy falls asleep and has a weird and wild dream where he encounters a dragon. The dragon intimidates him and scares him. It yells, screams, and threatens the boy. He comes to the conclusion that the only thing he can do his fight his way through. So he dons his armor and charges the dragon head on. The battle is intense, but (spoiler alert!) the boy is victorious! After he wakes from his dream, he begins to figure out what the dragon represents in his life. Conquer Your Dragons is not only a fun, entertaining, rhyming, adventure story, but also a fantastic fable with many underlying principles to teach our children (and perhaps even adults) to recognize that the dragons we face do not have to control us. The story was written to provide hope that we can conquer and overcome any challenge that gets in our way.  Ep43 Sleep! How to Create Better Sleep Hygiene, Help for Insomniacs, And Debunking Sleep Myths | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:51:09

For nearly half of all adults, sleep can be a problem. Whether you have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, struggle to get moving in the morning, or if you’re falling asleep on the job, or at school, a lot of our mental energy is spent on thoughts associated with sleep. In this episode Tony references an article in the March issue of Nutrition Action, a Health Letter put out by the Center for Science in the Public Interest http://nutritionaction.com. In the article “Perchance to Dream, The Hunt for a Good Night’s Sleep,” Michael Vitiello, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington, talks about the topic of sleep, insomnia and sleep hygiene as well as several other sleep-related topics. Tony takes on the topic of sleep, something he readily admits to having an unusual relationship with, in hopes of bringing some awareness to many common sleep problems, and myths and providing some hope, and relief, for people who struggle with their relationship with sleep. Things you didn’t plan are going to happen in life. Your kids will spill, things will get broken.  Ep41 The 5 Love Languages, How to Better Connect with Your Partner | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:43:04

Back in 1995, PhD and Marriage Therapist Gary Chapman released a book called "The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate." In the book, Chapman outlines five ways to express and experience love. He calls these "love languages." These 5 love languages are: receiving gifts, quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service (devotion), and physical touch. For many couples, reading about, and discovering, their partners love language (and their own) is one of the first steps toward trying to repair a damaged relationship. For newlyweds, this can be a very important foundational principal for a healthy marriage. In this episode, Tony explores each one of the love languages as well as how understanding them can benefit you, and your partner.  Ep40 Parenting Help ASAP - 4 Big Rock Items w/Pastor Chris Jung of Summit Church | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:49:41

Does the job of parenting often feel overwhelming? Sometimes you feel like you’re on the same page with your kids, that they’ll come to you with all of their problems, and you can wax philosophical and pass on all of your sage wisdom, when other times it feels like they went into high-drama mode when all you did was ask them how their day was going? Or sometimes do you truly feel lost, like everything you do or say is wrong, and you constantly worry if you’re doing them more harm than good? In this episode Tony is interviewed by Pastor Chris Jung of Summit Christian Church in Lincoln, CA for a second time, this time talking specifically about how to be a better parent using The Nurtured Heart Approach. The Nurtured Heart Approach is an evidence based method that helps you feel more in control of your reactions while helping your children build inner wealth, which ultimately leads to more self-confidence, and more self-reliance, two key components necessary to help your kids achieve success, and grow into emotionally mature, caring, capable adults. You can find more from Chris Jung, including the talk I referenced in my intro on finances by Drew Bartlett, at http://mysummit.church/category/messages/ This episode is brought to you by Bloom for Women, Bloom offers online programs, expert help, and an empathetic community to help women heal, strengthen, and grow past the trauma of infidelity and betrayal whether it be betrayal from a spouse who has a pornography or sex addiction, or from the emotional betrayal of an affair.  Ep39 Power! Why Power Tends to Corrupt, the Paradox of Power, Nice Guys Finish First | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:35:28

Power! Can power be used for good, or is power inherently evil? Today we look at the psychology of power, specifically what psychologists call the “paradox of power.” We debunk the myth that nice guys never finish first, but why do even the nice guys change when the get a taste of power. What’s the difference between power by influence, and power by compulsion and what’s ultimately at the core of so many who reach power by compulsion and why they continue to try and maintain power by fear? This episode is brought to you by Bloom for Women, Bloom offers online programs, expert help, and an empathetic community to help women heal, strengthen, and grow past the trauma of infidelity and betrayal whether it be betrayal from a spouse who has a pornography or sex addiction, or from the emotional betrayal of an affair.  Ep38 Losing a Parent to Cancer and 5 Stages of Grief and Loss with Aspen Drake | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:00:10

Aspen Drake, host of the podcast Loss For Words, joins Tony to talk about her experiences in dealing with the loss of her mother, Amanda, to cancer, while she was in college, being the oldest of 4 siblings and her feeling the need to be a family leader during that time. She also discusses how the grieving process differs for everyone, and despite what many people hear during this difficult time, there truly is no absolutely correct way to grieve. Aspen also gives some background on the 5 Stages of Grief and Loss, a concept originally developed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross. Ross initially developed the 5 Stages as a non-evidence-based guide for dealing with grief and loss, but, much to Ross’s frustration, it was immediately used by many to say that if the 5 stages weren't being followed linearly, when someone isn’t following the exact path of the 5 stages (which Ross never intended to be something that HAD to be followed exactly) that they were grieving "wrong." You can find Loss For Words on iTunes/Apple Podcast app or wherever you get your podcasts.
