Robert I. Grossman, MD, was named Saul J. Farber Dean and chief executive officer of NYU Langone Health in July 2007. Dr. Grossman joined NYU Langone in 2001 as the Louis Marx Professor of Radiology, chairman of the Department of Radiology, and professor of neurology, neurosurgery, and physiology and neuroscience. In his previous position at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he was a professor of radiology, neurosurgery, and neurology; chief of neuroradiology; and associate chairman of radiology. Early in his tenure, Dr. Grossman launched a major campus transformation that has resulted in the addition of more than 7 million square feet of clinical, educational, and research space. In collaboration with the Board of Trustees and institutional leadership, Dr. Grossman has increased NYU Langone’s revenue by more than $7 billion and has raised more than $2.7 billion in philanthropy. In addition, NYU Langone’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) 2017 research awards totaled $451 million—an increase of more than 250 percent since 2007. As dean of NYU School of Medicine, he presided over the announcement of tuition-free medical education for all current and future students in its MD degree program. Dr. Grossman also curated a new approach to medical education, called Curriculum for the 21st Century (C21). Dawn Sweeney is the President and CEO of the National Restaurant Association, the Washington, DC-based national trade association for the nation’s $800 billion restaurant and foodservice industry. Prior to assuming this role in October of 2007, Dawn was the President of AARP Services, the taxable business subsidiary of AARP, where she was responsible for revenue growth and new product development for the 50+ market (2002-2007), serving AARP’s 40 million members. While there, she launched AARP Financial, an SEC regulated consortium of mutual funds geared to serve AARP’s 40 million members. From 1999 – 2002, Dawn was the Group Executive for Membership for AARP, focused on growing and diversifying AARP’s membership, relaunching AARP’s brand for greater relevance and resonance, and building the organization’s first knowledge management capability. She served as Vice President of Market Development for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (1993-1999), a trade association serving America’s consumer-owned electric utilities and providing service to more than 30 million consumers across rural and suburban America. Dawn was the Vice President of Marketing for the International Dairy Foods Association (1990-1994), where she launched the “milk mustache” advertising campaign and served as Director of Public Affairs (1986-1990), Manager of Education (1983-1986) and Educational Coordinator (1981-1983). She earned a BS in Government from Colby College and an MBA in Marketing from The George Washington University. She also participated in the Harvard Business School’s inaugural “Women on Boards” program in 2016. David A. Jones co-founded Humana Inc. in 1961 and served as chief executive officer for 37 years and board chair for 44 years prior to retiring in 2005. He served as founding board chairman of Hospira, NYSE (HSP) until his retirement in 2007. He is a retired director of Abbott Laboratories and several other companies. Mr. Jones was a member of The Business Roundtable and co-founder and past chair of the Healthcare Leadership Council, a group of about 50 CEOs of the nation’s largest health care organizations. Mr. Jones, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and his wife Betty have five children and eleven grandchildren. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville in 1954, where he won the outstanding senior award. He also became a Certified Public Accountant that year. After three years of Navy service he entered Yale University, earning a law degree (JD) in 1960, while also serving on the economics faculty from 1958 to 1960. He received the Yale Law School Medal in 1990 and the Yale Medal in 1992. In 2003, he received Romania’s highest civilian award, the Order of Merit, for his role from 1990-2006 in rebuilding that nation’s devastated health care system. He holds honorary doctorates from the Chicago Medical School, the Claremont Graduate School, the University of Louisville, Middlebury College, Transylvania University and Ovidius University, Constanta, Romania.
