The NACCHO Podcast Series

Ian Goldstein sat down with the CDC Deputy Director and Chief Medical Officer for Public Health Preparedness and Response Dr. Daniel Sosin. They discuss the local health department response to the 2017 hurricane season and wildfires throughout the country. They also discuss how small- to medium-sized health departments can develop a smart community-wide emergency management plan.

Ian Goldstein sat down with three LHD of the Year Award winners at NACCHO Annual 2018, NY State SACHO Director Sarah Ravenhall, Nassau County Director Dr. Larry Eisenstein, Fulton County Director Dr. Irena Gelman, and Eerie County Director Dr. Gale Burstein. Two old friends, and past NACCHO Presidents, Bob Harmon and Hugh Tilson recall their work on the landmark report from the Institute of Medicine entitled "The Future of Public Health" on its 30th anniversary. They discuss what went into the report and how it was received in 1988. They also discuss what they believe in 2018 is the future of public health.

Ian Goldstein sat down with Public Health Director at the Middleton Board of Health and State Association of County and City Health Official Derek Fullerton to talk about their new opioid toolkit for all local health departments in Massachusetts. The toolkit contains best practices around opioids. They also discuss newly legalized cannabis in the state. 

Ian Goldstein sat down with the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dr. Robert Kadlec. Dr. Kadlec discussed his four priority areas as the ASPR. Dr. Kadlec also talked about how small-to-medium-sized health departments can develop a smart emergency management plan.

Ian Goldstein sat down with Health Officer and Administrator for the Monroe County Health Department Bob Eadie. Bob and Ian discuss the public health impacts of Hurricane Irma that hit the Florida Keys in August 2017. They discuss lessons learned as well as how local public health can develop plans for extreme weather conditions in the future.

Dr. Shah talked about the importance of public health emergency preparedness and hospital system preparedness programs.
