Ian Goldstein talked with Health Director for DeKalb County Health Department Dr. Sandra Ford. They discuss risk factors around maternal and child health to bring awareness to Birth Defects Prevention Month. Dr. Ford discussed the challenges in DeKalb county lowering the rates of infant mortality throughout the county.

Ian Goldstein spoke via telephone with Stephanie Black Medical Director with the Communicable Disease Program in the Chicago Department of Public Health and Michael Craig Senior Advisor for CDC’s Antibiotic Resistance Coordination and Strategy Unit. They discuss the current state of antimicrobial resistance in the US. They also discuss the CDC’s AMR Challenge and how local health departments can get involved.

Ian Goldstein sat down with the Director of the Kansas City Health Department and 2018 Mo Mullet Award winner Dr. Rex Archer and Health Director for Idaho North Central District Carol Moehrle who nominated Dr. Archer for the award. They discussed his career in public health and his greatest accomplishments in public health as well as the greatest challenges throughout his career. They also discussed public health accreditation and the value of NACCHO membership. 

Ian Goldstein spoke with the Director of Immunization Services Division at the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Melinda Wharton. They discussed the history of National Influenza Vaccination Week and how important vaccinations are at all stages of life. They also discussed how local health departments can encourage their communities to get vaccinated.

Ian Goldstein talked with 2018 Model Practice Winners from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, Diana Montano and Jannet Burguete. They discussed their Model Practice Award winning submission breastfeeding baby café, which is a lactation consultation in a non-clinical setting, delivering services to the target population and to women in need with their breastfeeding concerns.
