Dark Green Leafy Vegetables. Spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, mustard greens, collard greens, chicory, and Swiss chard. They all boast a dazzling array of carotenoids, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, along with saponins and flavonoids. They also have some folate and fiber. Broccoli. This and other cruciferous veggies – like brussel sprouts, rapini, red cabbage, and radishes – deliver excellent amounts of vitamin C. Some provide manganese and vitamin K. They produce large amounts of glucosinolates, that are big-time body detoxifiers. Apples. The antioxidant punch of apples comes mostly from quercetin, a flavonoid with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Don’t peel them – the peel is full of triterpenoids. And apples are also a good source of fiber and vitamin C. Grapes and Grape Juice. Both are rich sources of the polyphenol known as resveratrol, which research indicates possesses strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties – and aggressively rids your body of toxins.  Myofascial Release Physical Therapy to Address Pain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Could myofascial release treatment (MFR) be the answer to your chronic pain? When we encounter traumatic or dangerous events, we either stay and fight or we run to save our lives as a defense mechanism. Most people are familiar with this fight/flight response. However, there is a third option called the ‘freeze’ response. Get farm to table ingredients and recipes delivered right to your door every week with Sun Basket. Go to SunBasket.com/talkhealthy to save $35 off of your first order. - sponsor When we freeze, the emotional and physical components of the traumatic event are stored on a cellular level. During a myofascial release treatment (MFR) it is not uncommon for these emotions, events and memories to come to the surface and be released allowing people to understand why they have certain physical or behavioral patterns in life. This, in turn, allows for closure to the traumatic experience. MFR focuses on releasing the restrictions within the fascial system, helping with a host of injuries and ailments in children and adults ranging from neck and back pain, arthritis and degenerative disk disease to headaches and migraines, sciatica, scoliosis and sports injuries to name a few. Fascia, a web of connective tissue that spreads from head to toe, covers and interpenetrates every muscle, bone, vessel, nerve and cell in the body. Restricted fascia is often a major source of pain. MFR therapists apply gentle and sustained elongation or compression in the areas of tightness or pain, releasing the fascia and freeing up the spaces in between the joints, muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels. The treatment realigns the body, restores fluidity, elongates elastin and collagen fibers and results in increased flexibility, strength and function. Listen as Sepi Aeen of From the Heart Physical Therapy joins host Lisa Davis to explain what MFR is and how it can be used for a variety of ails.  Holistic Treatment Approach to Alzheimer's | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Alzheimer's is a family problem -- ruthless in its scope and spread.Who among us is not affected by issues such as stress, depression, personality and behavioral changes, agitation, hypertension or high cholesterol... to name a few? In its capacity to completely destroy personalities, relationships and daily living, we cannot afford to continue thinking of it as a private disease. Alzheimer's is a family problem -- ruthless in its scope and spread. And, despite relentless trials and research studies, scientists have not found a drug to control it. Even worse, there isn't even a fully reliable diagnostic test for it. Alzheimer's disease has become a gigantic specter that looms before all of us as we age, and it is advancing unimpeded. Today we know that contributing factors and symptoms (such as stress and hypertension) can be alleviated with holistic, alternate management approaches, like meditation, yoga, music therapy and virtual reality therapy. Research studies from Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins University and Mayo Clinic, among many others, have demonstrated the comprehensive benefits of yoga and meditation on various aspects of the human mind. When you think about it, that's where Alzheimer's disease develops: in the mind. How can meditation and yoga stop or even reverse the course of Alzheimer's? They set the mind on an inward journey where the risk factors that precipitate the disease are formed. This bridging of the old and new creates an imperative paradigm shift in our perspective toward Alzheimer's disease management. Shuvendu Sen, MD, author of Why Buddha Never Had Alzheimer's, joins host Lisa Davis to discuss why these holistic approaches are precisely what is needed to cause a drastic and necessary revolution in medical care.  Detoxing the Mind | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Is it time for a mind detox? Celia Ward-Wallace offers these tips. Get farm to table ingredients and recipes delivered right to your door every week with Sun Basket. Go to SunBasket.com/talkhealthy to save $35 off of your first order. - sponsor 1. Socializing, Conversation & Laughter One of the best ways to unwind is to think of who in your life you enjoy the most and spend some quality time with them having fun. When we spend time with our favorite people, it allows us to release stress and let go of anything weighing on our heads. Talk therapy and laughter therapy are two of the lowest cost and most effective ways to let go of the trouble we have bottled up. Now you can save money on your life insurance just for being healthy. HealthIQ helps physically active people save up to 33% on their life insurance. Go to HealthIQ.com/talkhealthytoday to get a free quote. - sponsor 2. Meditation Meditation is a simple and extremely effective way of quieting our minds and alleviating stress in the moment. Meditation can be the act of doing anything where your mind concentrates on one thing. It can be gardening, reading, cooking and of course sitting still and breathing. Taking as little of 5 minutes a day to sit still and breathe has been proven to lower stress and ease many health issues, such as high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. 3. Positive Affirmations We all have so much mind chatter and negative self-talk going 24 hours a day! In order to de-clutter our minds it is SUPER helpful to become fully aware of the conversations we have with ourselves in our head. Once we become conscious of the negative self-talk, we can create positive self-talk to replace those thoughts. So, write down all the negative stories you tell yourself about your past, your failures, mistakes, worries and fears. Then take each statement and write a positive affirmation in opposition to that statement. When that negative statement comes back into your mind, recognize it and say the positive affirmation over in its place. You can also write all your affirmations down and print them out. Read them daily in the morning and at night this will reprogram your subconscious so that you don’t have the negative thoughts, instead the positive thoughts will begin to be your default setting. 4. Sleep Sleeping lets your mind rest and hit the reset button. Sleep is one of the best and easiest tools we have to de-clutter our mind. Usually when we wake up we feel lighter, refreshed and energized and often have a shift in perspective. Often sleeping is where we have some of greatest creative inspirations, waking up full of excitement about a new idea which came forth because of the space made in the mind by going to sleep. When you have a decision to make and your mind feels too full, before going to bed, ask yourself “what should I do about this situation?” and then go to bed. Many times, this will give you so much more clarity and you will know exactly what to do. 5. Staycation AWAY from Home Stay-cations are awesome because you don’t have to pay for travel, but get all the benefits of a vacation. Pick a day or two a month to go to a local hotel. It’s ME-TIME and so schedule it in advance. This is an easy getaway because there is no housework, bills and distractions. Taking the time to unwind is so helpful in releasing stress and mind-clutter. 6. 24 Hours with NO Electronics (DEVICE DETOX!!) In this crazy instant communication world this piece of advice may be one of the hardest to implement, but it is one of the most valuable! One of the reasons for our mind-clutter is that our sub-conscious mind is processing so many pieces of information every second. The more you get on the computer to do emails, use Facebook and watch TV the more info overload your mind experiences. Plan one day a month to
