Episode 101 ~ Venice Skaters Witness Burglary, USA! Parade, Astral Poetry | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:11:51

Let’s start with a quick surf story, Cali-style. And then an epic “Calypso” dancer intro… -We shout-out Greg Reveret, the composer who worked with Deadmau5 (@deadmau5) on the Where’s the Drop? album, after he connects with us on the Twitter machine. Thanks for the social love Greg. Such inspirational work dude btw! Follow him here: twitter.com/GregReveret 39:10 – Rad Reviews: Gideon King & City Blog “Upscale Madhouse” @user-107470090 Halfwait “The Official” @halfwait Eric Frisch “Water Into Gold EP” @ericfrisch 1:08:35 – Crooked Flower “Blooming – The Light Rail Sessions” @crookedflower 31:52 – Calgary producer Indiazi, in the midst of Stampede madness north or the border, explains the method behind the madness of Asiatic Shores. I love how beaches come into the mix for her. @indiazi 1:23:25 – We head to the CNN building in Hollywood and catch them playing one of the best Boards of Canada tracks of all time over their exterior speakers, as immigration discussion rages on the TV in the middle of the night. @boardsofcanada @cnn 1:29:15 – Okay, back to Venice Beach to walk along the strand and hit up the skatepark. But the helicopters are circling, once again, up along Abbot Kinney Blvd., and we get the low-down on crime in action from some young skaters nearly caught up in the action. 1:32:33 – America Fuck Yeah! We head to a Fourth of July parade that actually kicked off with parachuters and a ridiculously emphatic USA chant in the Pacific Palisades. Hope you enjoy some of the on-the-spot audio and commentary we have to serve up like apple pie. 1:39:35 – I hopped on the bus and headed to Westwood in mid-afternoon. I bumped into Matthew Koehler (pictured), a 22-year-old from Missouri, and I randomly asked if he wanted to share some of his unique thoughts on his pad of yellow legal paper. I was pleasantly surprised by the result. Here’s how he describes the stream of consciousness poetry: “This is just a concept that I kinda tousled with in my astral imagination. It’s about the mechanics of movement, motion, intention, desire and how we marry all those together within our chakras.” Music: Logistics, Hybrid Minds @hybridminds, Optic Rose, Marcus Intalex @marcusintalex, Klangkarussel, Ivy Lab @ivylab, Guy J @guy-j, Dead Mans Chest @dead-mans-chest, M.F.S.  Episode 100 ~ LTJ Bukem, Deadmau5 orchestral, Emmy award-winner, This American Life’s premiere | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:08:04

We enjoy moving into the triple podcast digits with an episode that’s full #fire from beginning to end !!! Cold Open: We hit up a celebration of Los Angeles drum n’ bass promoters reaching their own milestone > 1,000 editions of the weekly Respect night. In the downtown LA warehouse they had LTJ Bukem, the man known for invigorating atmospheric and liquid drum n’ bass genres at the point of inception (who Blue Lunar Monkey @bluelunarmonkey had nothing but good things to say about playing alongside), to make it official. @ltj-bukem 9:20 – Emmy award-winning writer and executive producer with Seinfeld, Simpson and Rocko’s Modern Life credits to his name, Ron Hauge steps into the Frequency Horizon limelight after brunch. You’ll have to listen to find out why he told us: “I’m on drugs.” 17:40 – Rafa the Brazilian psytrance DJ known as Nitrous comes to LA and is thrilled to be in Koreatown. He’s trying to get new clients and improve his English. @djnitrous 41:06 – We meet a Santa Monica character who claimed to be an original Motley Crue member. Odean tells us about his plan to frustrate PETA. 48:00 – Deadmau5 decided it was time to do a full orchestra-electronic mash-up in an extremely professional manner. The energy at the second day of the Where’s the Drop? festivities at LA’s the Wiltern was moving. The sincerity of the production was thrilling. And even though some were surprised it didn’t break out into a full-on dance party, you could almost hear personal music growth happening all around. Musical director Gregory Reveret did an amazing job. Rad Reviews: Ajay Mathur – Little Boat (@ajaymathurmusic) Ryan Hutchens – The Last 10 Years (@ryanhutchens) Good Field – Surface Tension (@goodfieldband) 1:13:46 – We muse on the legalization of recreational weed (in California and soon in Canada) from Hollywood in a very legit on-the-street yet typically Frequency Horizon-remix fashion. 1:23:24 – I headed through the hills to West Hollywood and squeaked into the LA premiere of Come Sunday, the brand new Netflix production from podcast and public radio kings This American Life. We’ll put it in front of the ole’ #ambient looking glass to see what deeper perspective might shine through. Here we’ll give you a glimpse of how Ira Glass handled a potential pitfall during the QnA and hint at the significance of meeting a potent broadcaster. @this-american-life www.imdb.com/title/tt1690967/ Music: @churchoftheundecided @montydnb1 @spydnb @gred_music@

 Episode 99 ~ LA Transitional pt. 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:24:17

In this episode I reflect on the significance of “Number 99” as it relates to the Great One and my own journey from Canada to the U.S. We’ll take you past Venice Beach buskers to the mountains of Big Bear for a comical-but-legit modern rap parody and into the heart of Hollywood, following the delivery of an antique chair from Orange County. Cold Open: Shots fired — I tried to go to a burlesque show but wasn’t allowed to bring my bag in. So I went back to my truck in order to drop it off. I got into a daze listening to podcasts and was jerked into action by the helicopters overhead. Just outside the show I encountered these two dudes, who describe a shooting that had just taken place. 28:35 – I pay homage to one of the radio greats — Joe Frank — who I only discovered through his untimely passing. I think his writing is on par with greats like Hunter S. Thompson and Mark Twain. Do yourself a favour and educate yourself here: www.joefrank.com/ 76:00 – Joining the hoards trying to “make it” in Hollywood, I headed up to Burbank early in the morning to sign up as a background actor with Central Casting. There I met 19-year-old Krill Mikhaylow, from Russia, and 33-year-old Gwaii Thyword, from Tanzania (85:55) — a fellow radio presenter. They each had a different take on what acting success is all about. 94:50 – Big Bear party house freestyle in the vein of modern trapped-out mumble rap. 63:46 – Track of the Week Xinobi “Real Fake (Jonjo Jury rmx)” @jonjojury 1:08:59 – I hear the Hulk tell me in his own words what it was like to come to LA and crash on the beach, as he struggled to make it. From mumble rap to comic book character speech, we’re definitely covering all the modes of diction this week. 1:20:24 – Rad Review: Oakland’s Idiot Grins (@idiotgrins) “State of Health” and Rebel ACA & French Monkey Wrench “John Wayne” (@user-20948793) 1:26:18 – Michael Jackson talks about the time a kid at his school came close to shooting it up, and why he decided to join the walk-out to protest gun policies in the US. Music: Squarepusher (@squarepusher), Cut Chemist (@cut-chemist), Cleptomaniacs (@cleptomaniacs), Kidnap (@kidnap_music), Daniel Avery (@danielavery), Tek.Lun (@tekdotlun), Bredden (@bredrenbe), Zeds Dead (@zedsdead), Hybrid Minds (@hybridminds), Tinlicker (@tinlicker), Miguel (@miguel), Kanye West (@kanyewest), Todd Terje (@toddterje), Cern (@cern), etc. Theme: Nasoshnik … check out his latest album here:

 Episode 98 ~ LA Transitional pt. 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:55:01

Morphing into a new phase, I head down the West Coast, meeting electronic music producers and filmmakers, and start to come to a deep appreciation of what Los Angeles is all about. 34:05 – First we’ll weave dope electronic tunes together, as always, along with a night out in Seattle — including a lesson on brostep history from the Shift Crew @press_shift and watching a truck hit a car then drive away with supreme arrogance. 1:06:29 – Rad Reviews: Henry Metal @user-194436281, Jason Vitelli @jasonvitellimusic, Meanr Mynr @meanrmynr, Joel Phil @joelphil, Yaysh @yayshplz Music: @moderat-official, @dc-breaks-uk, @the-black-eyed-peas-official, @dannybyrdmusic, @othersdubstep, @tippermusic, @filwoody, @fortromeau, @gruen_glas_music, @ocandverde (track of the week). Includes an interview with Leonard Avance @user-369863709 about his first ever track! At the time he was going to call it Beauty, but ended up going with the title Runaway for the song he ultimately shared with the podcast. 1:30:50 – And we cruise around LA’s freeway network on Golden Globes night with director Richard Fox, who helps us contemplate how music is a universal language, something he’s making a documentary about.

 Episode 97 ~ Goodbye Tuff City | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:40:04

Thanks Tuff City… it’s been a slice. But now I’m outie. 31:01 – Environment Canada meteorologist explains the “magic” behind the stunning sunset along the horizon all day, as the waves began to pick up. It was the perfect setting to work on my final show. 59:13 – The emailed-s/o from former treeplanting homie @omar-shihottie means the world to us here. Hope you enjoy our premiere of his slow-jam “Empty Bottle.” 1:24:31 – Rad Reviews: Patrick Grant @patrick-grant-9, Sleep Science @sleepscienceband, TALIA @talia1975, zenxienz @zenxienz 2:02:57 – OFFICIAL ALBUM RELEASE: Culture Crawl ~ Tuff City’s 2017 Homegrown >>> soundcloud.com/frequencyhorizon/sets/culture-crawl-tuff-citys-2017 Featuring: Roy’s Bag, Praxis Life, @garvies, Little Saturday, @tsimka, BUTTERFLYWINGTIP (@truezoorecords-com), @cosmic-target, @the-royal-youths, @pudfluff, @lovelife2020, @ginga-slice Music: @spectrasoul, @deadmau5, @deeklineofficial, @deccoooo, @four-tet, @etherwood, @entershikari, @erobique-1, @sashaofficial, @ducksaucenyc, @defekt-music, @photay, @mumbaiscience, @black-moth-super-rainbow-official, @bop, @unityengine

Episode 94 ~ The Didgeridoos and Didgeridonts of Life in Tuff City | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:16:02

You’re in for a treat: Tuff City local Andrew Kinnie not only pops by to drop some knowledge and a didgeridoo/drum live performance, he also brought his DJ gear… Suffice to say we had an absolute blast! 20:20 – This week is Co-op Week, meaning all you member/owners get to pick up your cashback check. We head down to the grocery store of our sponsor to meet the president and find out what all the fuss is about. 33:12 – Rad Reviews: This week’s trio of reviews has New Sincerity Works, Ben Brookes and Michael P Cullen under the Frequency Horizon critical microscope. 1:20:35 – We promised Andrew Kinnie would grace the Tuff City Radio studio with his presence and he did not disappoint. It was great to hear how he approaches creating vibrational waves and pushing it out into the universe via both organic and digital means. He sat down for a chat before launching into a didgeridoo/drum performance. Then he mixed a really sweet set of chill but inspiring West Coast beats.  Episode 92 ~ Erica Dee, OWABOWA + Xoiko’s Croatian Music Fest Report | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:01:37

We look forward to the Queen of the Peak women’s surf comp kickoff we’re hosting featuring Erica Dee and OWABOWA, plus get a report from a Croatian music festival courtesy of one of our very own electronic music reporters. -I met this dude named Graeme Martell at a local bar and invited him to co-host this episode. He explains how surfing’s totally different than other boardsports, reads some “wake up call to the world” poetry that touches on the illuminati, tells us about ditching a blood-stained hat for a white one, and describes what it was like to find black mushrooms near Tonquin Beach. You know, just classic stuff. “How profound. Do you like to hear the vibrations of sound? Do you love your city, or do you love your town?” (33:05) -53:54 > I interview Boston / Nelson B.C. performer Erica Dee (@erica-dee) live on the air about her creative process, her perspective on the West Coast and what it’s like to see her words inspire other artists to create music. -1:22:34 > It was pretty rad to hear the approach OWABOWA (@owabowa) takes to integrating global sounds with fresh electronics. She’s turned a love of South African #house into groovin’ mixology tools of the trade such as cumbia, baile funk, reggaeton and — my fav — “psychedelic tropical.” 1:49:15 – DJ Xoiko headed to Croatia for an exhausting but totally mindblowing time at Outlook Festival. It took him a couple weeks to fully recover that’s how dope it was. He reports back with prime info about the tracks and artists that went off at the event. We hope he’ll slip us a dubplate mixtape in the days to come.
