CT FM 015: The Ultimate Guide To Cooking With Knives | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:00

Welcome to our fifteenth Podcast at Recipe This and welcome to our latest cooking tips Podcast. You can listen to the Podcast on the link above, read all about it below or click to download the ebook version on the banner above. What Is Featured In This Podcast? Introduction – in this section I will be sharing with you my experience with using knives. The Ultimate Knives Guide – what you need to know about using knives and how to make the most out of them for both your own safety and so that you can chop up your food much quicker. Podcast Sponsor – This Podcast is sponsored by Lantana and their amazing knife sharpener. It is a great way to stay safe in the kitchen and this little gadget is so modern! Understanding Knife Safety – it is important that you learn how to be safe when using a knife so that you don’t cut yourself and so that you don’t risk a serious accident in the kitchen. This section explains how! Links & Resources Mentioned In Cooking Tips FM 015: * The Knife Sharpener Giveaway * How To Chop Up A Chicken * Lantana Home Today I wanted to talk to you about using knives in the kitchen and how to make the best use of your knives. I remember when I was growing up because there was not that much cooking going on there really wasn’t that many knives available. I remember one for peeling the vegetables with, one for chopping up the cheese and I don’t really remember any beyond that. There was also this weird looking electrical one that was very 80’s and was for carving the roast dinner meat at the table. Everyone had the electric carving knife and it was for the man to show off his knife skills to the guests while everyone was sat around the dinner table on a Sunday afternoon. I never used the electric one but always loved the other two. There was no peeler around and I was the worst potato peeler with a knife that you had ever seen. It was a case of doing a giant potato and peeling it ready for chips and losing ½ the potato as I did it. I would get shouted at for that and clearly I was never allowed near the carrots! It actually feels weird saying that and that there was a life before the trusted peeler! With the cheese knife I absolutely loved that. It was perfect for chopping cheese or bread with and even better for chopping up bacon. #CookingTips #Podcast – The Ultimate Guide To #Cooking With #Knives via recipe_thisClick To Tweet But when I look back there was never any thought to knife safety and I don’t recall anyone (other than a chef) ever owning a knife sharpener. Eventually the knife died and it would go in the bin and another one would be bought. But now we are in the modern world and what was in the kitchen in the 1980s is so different as to what you have now. We now have knife sharpeners, different coloured chopping boards, huge knife ranges, good quality knife holders and so much more. It makes cooking so much easier and nowadays there is no excuse for chopping your fingers with the knife.

Food Blogging FM 015: Tailwind For Food Bloggers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:13

Welcome to our food blogging Podcast and here we are with Food Blogging FM 015. You can listen to the Podcast on the link above, read all about it below or click to download the ebook version on the banner above. What Is Featured In This Podcast? How Tailwind has changed things at RecipeThis.com – discover how making a few smart changes has actually doubled our Pinterest traffic in the very first month of using it. Plus we were on holiday for part of that month so we didn’t start it straightaway! The Tailwind account – what you need to know about Tailwind and the top 10 stages of making a successful Tailwind account. Links & Resources Mentioned In Food Blogging FM 015: * Our Pinterest Boards * Pinterest Group Boards * Pinterest Group Board Add * Best Of Pinterest * Pinterest Boards * PinGroupie * Tailwind * Hootsuite * Our Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe * Recipe This on Fiverr Today I wanted to talk to you about Tailwind. If you’re not familiar with Tailwind then put in simple terms it is a scheduler for Pinterest. Here at RecipeThis.com we have tried other schedulers but not one of them has matched up to this one. We are also the frugal type of food bloggers so we don’t spend money on our food blog unless we have to. So for us to spend just over $100 a year for something it has to give us something special. Well most people are on Pinterest for traffic and to use it to grow their social media activity and it has certainly done that for us. Here is our Pinterest traffic the day we started on Tailwind: 1685 sessions was what we had for the last 30 days. This had become the norm and for a food blog that was just six months old we were relatively happy with this result. However we were still looking at our former site that got a lot of traffic from Pinterest and wish we could have the same success. But  Pinterest has changed a lot since then and you could just post your recipes in 2013 and not have to make any effort. But with more and more people using it and promoted pins you have to go that extra mile. So we started on Tailwind and this was our first full month on Tailwind: 3672 sessions was what we have had in the last month in comparison. This means that we have more than doubled our traffic. We have also added approximately one thousand new followers to our Pinterest account too. Normally to have that kind of growth you would need one of your updates to go viral but thanks to Pinterest Groups and incorporating it into Tailwind you can achieve this on your own. So let me explain how: The Tailwind Account To get going you will need to have a Tailwind account. You can sign up for one by going to RecipeThis.com/tailwind. Once you have a tailwind account set up then you can set to work making it work for you. Here are the first things you need to do: * Put a spreadsheet together For me my spreadsheet it what runs a successful Pinterest campaign through Tailwind.

 CT FM 014: Frugal Holidays Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:14

Welcome to our fourteenth Podcast at Recipe This and welcome to our latest cooking tips Podcast. As I write this we are back at home having had a lovely two weeks in Spain. We ate out a lot enjoying lots of Spanish tapas, great restaurants, great days out and a four star hotel with three swimming pools. We also drove there and back from our house in Portugal and even after all these costs we still spent half the price of what we would have done if we had been on a package holiday in a three star hotel. It actually rather amazed us in the savings that could be made on a holiday if you shopped around. We had an amazing time and it was a great family holiday for the four of us. But it did give us a reality check about the cost of package holidays and how if you are frugal you can go on holiday and save a small fortune. That money can then be spent on other things instead of being wasted on a holiday.  Now we plan to do the same thing again next year and we want to share with you in the CTFM 014 how we did it. This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Introduction – I will be sharing with you about mistakes I made on other holidays and how you can save money just by following a few basics. * Eating Out On Holiday – I will show you how to have the best ever meals out as a family without it breaking the bank. Can you believe I had delicious tapas for just 60 cent? * Frugal Holiday Breakdown – Discover how much money we spent on our holiday and how to have a holiday full of delicious great food without it breaking the bank.  Food Blogging FM 014: Pinterest Groups For Food Bloggers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:08

Welcome to our food blogging Podcast and here we are with Food Blogging FM 014. Today I wanted to talk to you about my favourite social media subject at the moment and that is the Pinterest Groups. I am totally smitten with them and have been working heavily on them over the last few weeks. When you get into a system with your Pinterest groups they can bring you a lot of long term traffic and really help improve your general traffic strategy for your recipes. If you work at it, it is like you have gone from having exposure to 5000 followers to suddenly 100,000 and this will give you the ideal chance to go viral as they say. If you want one of your pins to go viral and have the chance to get 1000 repins then this is the perfect place to start and it is super easy to run that you can run it on just 5 minutes a day. Though, we timed ourselves and did it in 3.5 minutes to the 80 groups we are currently members of! If you are ready to take on the Pinterest Groups then we recommend that you listen to our latest Podcast! This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Introduction  – Whether you are new to Pinterest Groups or not I will be sharing with you how we have used them to bring us more traffic and how you can do the same. * What you should do first – I will show you what to do first with your Pinterest account and how to go from there to get on lots of Pinterest groups. * Getting on Pinterest groups – I will be sharing with you exactly how I get on Pinterest groups and how a simple spreadsheet can make things so easy! * How to get on groups quickly – This is my favourite part of this Podcast as I will be sharing with you two shortcuts that I regularly use. * Food Blogging Q&A – In this section I will talk about what the point is in using Pinterest groups and how it will help your growth.  CT FM 013: Frugal Holidays & Going On Holiday Without Breaking The Bank | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:53

Welcome to our thirteenth Podcast at Recipe This and welcome to our latest cooking tips Podcast. It is that time of year when we are all heading away in search of the summer sun. We of course don’t need to as we live in Portugal’s Algarve so there is certainly no shortage of lovely warm weather. But just like most people it is lovely to get away so we have decided to head to Spain for a couple of weeks. Though, the biggest reason for going, well apart from wanting to get away from it all, is the lure of the Spanish tapas. You see I am a huge Spanish food fan and as I can be in the most famous part of Spain for tapas in 6 hours why not? But at the same time I am always one for saving money so I will be sharing with you how to cut down on the eating out costs and how to get amazing value for money. We will be going for two weeks and we plan to document our summer adventure in the sun. So back your suitcases and come on an adventure to Spain and back with us! This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Introduction – I will be sharing with you the shock horror of how much money we spent on food on our first holiday in the sun. This was of course 11 years ago and I have matured a bit since then! * The Holiday Flats – Discover how growing up in the holiday trade and the influence of lots of frugal grandma like figures has made me think twice about how I plan out this holiday. * Spain In 2016 – Learn our six step rule to save money on our holiday food in 2016 and how we are going to do things differently.  Food Blogging FM 013: Instagram For Food Bloggers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:04

Welcome to our food blogging Podcast and here we are with Food Blogging FM 013. There has been a lot of talk over the last couple of months about an update on Instagram. The sort that could see social media mangers and food bloggers concerned that they were going to have an update similar to what has previously happened on Facebook. For those of you that don’t remember Facebook put an update together so that the majority of the time your updates would be seen a lot less and it would have a big effect on your traffic unless you were paying for Facebook Ads. Well people waited and the Instagram update finally came along. But unlike with Facebook it means that those that put an effort into their hashtags and general updates have the opportunity to go viral and that you have the chance to see a huge climb in your traffic. This of course is something that we welcome and since then we have noticed that we are either staying the same on updates or getting extra traffic. So if like many, if your traffic has gone down, your likes or your comments then have a listen to this Podcast and it will explain how much better things can be for you and your brand. This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Introduction  – Whether you are new to Instagram or want to improve on your current set up then this section is worth a listen. * Starting Your Social Media – Look at what you need to do first and how you can kickstart your Instagram account. * Your Blog Posts – Everything you should do with every blog post in order to get yourself noticed on Instagram and to build your social brand. * What Else Should You Be Doing – Here we look at the other things you should be doing on Instagram and how we got our own daily routine in place. * Food Blogging Q&A – In this section I will talk about how the Instagram update shouldn’t affect you and what to do if it has.  CT FM 012: The Art Of International Cooking | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:29

Welcome to our twelfth Podcast at Recipe This and welcome to our latest cooking tips Podcast. In this Podcast we are talking about international cooking. You know that feeling when you read a recipe from a different country and you’re scratching your head because you don’t understand a word of it. Flour has a different name, sugar has a different name and then they measure things totally different. Oh and they have names for herbs that you’ve never heard of before! Well this has been me many times over the years and I am sure I have not been alone with this one. If it wasn’t for watching Friends I still wouldn’t know what an egg plant was and I am sure when I talk about a zucchini to people that I pronounce it all wrong. I have American family so I have never really had much of an excuse. But I still struggle from time to time with the basic things such as measuring conversions and basic ingredients that go in baked goods. So this Podcast is dedicated to people on both sides of the Atlantic that want to understand international cooking more and learn what those strange measurements actually mean. This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Introduction – I will be sharing with you my knowledge of American cooking especially the funny little stories of when the cultural measuring system came into place. Oh and discover what sneaky joke we played on Kyle when we were in Boston. * The Top 20 Common Cooking Words – Discover the cooking words that we should all know. These are a life saver if you are cooking and you’re trying to source the ingredients for a recipe you want to try out. * Measurements – I will be sharing with you some simple measurements so that you will never get stuck again on that foreign recipe. * What I Hate About Foreign Recipes – In the final chapter of the Podcast I will be having a mini rant and sharing with you the worst thing for cooking with a recipe from a different country.  Food Blogging FM 012: Be Everywhere | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:00

Welcome to our food blogging Podcast and here we are with Food Blogging FM 012. I want to talk today about niche domination. The idea that in your niche people would think of a keyword and think of you and ONLY YOU. It is something that you would normally only associate with a top celebrity or someone that can afford to pay for a big PR firm to do the work for you. But with the power of blogs and social media you can dominate without the huge price tag. You can develop the “be everywhere” philiosophy and be all over the internet with your blog. Build up your blog in the long term and see excellent long term results. Carrying on with just social media and blogging can bring you traffic but by following a “be everywhere” system you can expect to be there two years quicker than you would expect. You can have a blog that is still in its toddler steps that is doing better than blogs have been around for five years. Just imagine the potential that you are creating for yourself with a few moderations to your current workload. This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Understanding niches – Discover how to get your head around micro niches and even if you don’t have a niche on your site how you can still follow a micro niche rule. * Starting With Social Media – Starting the campaign with social media we will show you how to dominate Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and all the other important social media channels. * Blog Outreach – Understanding blog outreach and how you can use blog outreach to build your blog. * More ideas – we will also be covering lots of other areas so that you can create niche domination and literally be everywhere * Food Blogging Q&A – In this section I will talk about how using the systems mentioned in this Podcast to increase traffic and to improve traffic if it is staying the same.  CT FM 011: Getting Your Kids Cooking Noodles – The Big Experiment | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:45

Welcome to our eleventh Podcast at Recipe This and welcome to our latest cooking tips Podcast. This Podcast is going to be completely different to what you’re used to and involves my teenage boy in the kitchen making noodles. This is the same teenage son that a year ago I asked him to make some pasta and he burnt my pan because he forgot to cook it with water in the pan! So I was certainly in for a challenge. I challenged him to watch me, copy me and then change a recipe to suit his own food needs and this is what we ended up with: It is very important to be teaching our kids about cooking with us. In the old days you would be taught quite a lot at school and nowadays this is not happening and it is our responsibility to teach them instead. If we could work with them and teach them 10 different dishes to make, by the time they leave home they will know enough to be able to take care of themselves. Otherwise they could soon end up leaving home living off baked beans and other processed foods. Alternatively they could end up like I did and have way too many takeaways. Through just one hour in the kitchen with my son I taught him how to make a stir fry and several different ways with the same ingredients. As you can see below:   This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Introduction – I will be starting by sharing with you the inspiration behind this Podcast and how something simple is all they need in order to learn about cooking. * The Cooking Competition – Kids love a competition and this gets them thinking about food a lot more. It also allowed me to show him the difference between what could be achieved with processed foods to what you can make yourself. * Copying My Example – Next on the agenda was to copy my example and to show him how easy it was to learn how to cook noodles. * Being Creative – In the final chapter of the Podcast we talk about him being creative and changing part of the recipe to suit his own favourite foods.  Food Blogging FM 011: Twitter For Food Bloggers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:25

Welcome to our food blogging Podcast and here we are with Food Blogging FM 011. When you are a food blogger you will often consider social media to be Pinterest & Facebook. That will be it and that will be the end of your social media campaign. This is mainly because Facebook & Pinterest are so easy to drive traffic with or it could be a time thing. But from someone like me that has been on Twitter for 7 years and have used it to build and grow a lot of different blogs I wanted to share with you what Twitter could mean if you are in the food blogging niche. How you can build a following on Twitter, how you can increase your brand with Twitter but best of all how I can do it all on less than 5 minutes work a day. We all have 5 minutes that we can spare and compared to the time and effort that goes into something like Pinterest, it is 5 minutes worth investing in. This Podcast will be split into the following main areas: * Twitter is quick – I did the maths and my time spent on Twitter is less than 5 minutes a day plus some easy outsourcing. * Twitter action plan – You would be amazed by how little is involved to build up a Twitter machine. In this chapter I will talk you through everything you need to do for a fully functioning brand on Twitter. * Twitter tools – There are some amazing tools for running your Twitter campaign. Some of them you have to pay for but the majority are FREE. * What You Shouldn’t Be Doing – I am probably stating the obvious here but these are the things you shouldn’t be doing on your Twitter account. * Food Blogging Q&A – In this section I will talk about whether or not Twitter is worth bothering with at all and how the social media sites stand in regards to importance.
