The Great Race to Autism Acceptance with Sean Williams | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:46:00

The Great Race to Autism Acceptance! For those with Autism or Asperger's, the challenges that we face are often hard for others to understand since ASD is often considered a hidden disability. Autism Empowerment Radio is excited to bring on air a long-time Scouter from St. Charles, IL, Sean Williams. Sean is the father to a son with Asperger's who has found great success in scouting, achieving his Eagle rank. Sean developed The Great Race to Autism Acceptance for Scout-O-Rama 2012 to show individuals without autism a better understanding of autism can be like on a daily basis. As Sean says, every Scout on the spectrum is like a snowflake. No too are alike. The Great Race to Autism Acceptance was an exhibition with multiple stations and training. It was incredibly well received and his concept is one that can be duplicated in a variety of venues (not just scouting) around the world. Sean will talk with us today about the development and success of his project and give ideas on how you can develop something like this for your community. Sean is also the founder of a Special Needs Venturing Crew that combines the values and fun of scouting with learning practical life skills.  Sean was previously a guest on Autism and Scouting Radio (our sister station) and we look forward to having him on Autism Empowerment Radio because the programs and events Sean is implementing and developing are fantastic ideas that he hopes will be replicated.

Colin Brennan Interview: Autism & Music - 10 Year Old Singer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:31:00

Musical Inspiration! Join Karen with Autism Empowerment Radio as she interviews 10 year old Canadian autistic singer, Colin Brennan and his supportive dad, Gordon Brennan. Colin, a young vocal student and musical prodigy will be singing for us and sharing about his life and love for music. He will talk about how autism has helped in music with memorization & pitch.  Colin was born on July 5th, 2002 and was able to sing before he could talk. His parents have VHS movies of him singing full songs by the Care Bears when he was only 4 years old. Colin had to have extensive speech therapy to talk in full sentences, but NEVER had to have any therapy to sing! He just cannot help himself. Whenever he hears a song, he has to sing it loud! Colin sings in the prestigious Oakville Children's International Choir and is currently a finalist at The Stars Among Us Contest. (Vote for him at www.oakvillehearts.com) He has recorded 11 cover songs and has an original song, "I'm Awake Now" set to release on CD in Fall 2012. He has performed in a variety of concerts and festivals including a concert in January 2012 with internationally famous singer/songwriter, Justin Hines.  He has competed on The Next Star Television Competition and has his own popular station on BlogTalkRadio.com - Colin Brennan Music http://www.blogtalkradio.com/colin-brennan-music http://www.youtube.com/user/gurdy44 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Colin-Brennan-Music/159123847466775
