053: Everything From Batteries to Vehicles: News Segment and Survival Tactical Belt Military Belt - The Prepper Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:39

This is episode 53, and today I am answering all of your questions for the second week in a row.  Everything from batteries to vehicles.  I also have a news segment and product review. Show Notes: theprepperpodcast.com/053 Housekeeping: This is Week 2 of me answering all of your questions, If you would like to contact me and leave feedback for the show: * best method is to call: 978-KNOWS-IT or 978-566-9748 * theprepperpodcast.com… click on the green banner * theprepperpodcast.com/facebook, twitter, googleplus * Email me (ken (a) theprepperpodcast (dot) com) * comments in show notes JBradbury is BACK!!! News Segment * Genetic factors behind surviving or dying from Ebola shown in mouse study * http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/10/141030142206.htm * Rapid Geomagnetic Reversal Possibility: Confirmed * http://youtu.be/Dn357zRnKxs * Two lost elk hunters rescued SE of Prineville * http://m.ktvz.com/news/two-lost-elk-hunters-rescued-se-of-prineville/29507442 I have been asked for product reviews… Product Review: Rodut (TM) Survival Tactical Belt Military Belt CQB Rigger’s Belt   * Amazon: * Highly durable and versatile tactical CQB rigger belt. * Suitable for law enforcement and military use. * Durable metal buckle and hook Adjustable size * Sturdily constructed and built to last . * Offers an incredible 7,000 lb. tensile strength . * Features parachute grade buckles and adapters. * Colors: * Black * OD Green * Desert Sand Brown I read good and bad reviews of this belt and decided that it was worth trying. didn’t seem really thick. It was, however, exactly what was on the photos. wanting a good tactical belt for a holster. The 1 1/2″ Nylon webbing did the job. You do have to have it snug on your waste if you own a crappy holster that is top heavy and bulky, but with a proper holster, this belt works perfectly. I put it on and it seemed to retain position extremely well. For pants that have adjustable bands, this is a great belt to make a comfortable, yet firm fit. The CQB rigger is just a metal triangular piece that you can tie to or hook a carabineer to for all kinds of tasks.  It also has a Velcro latch to make sure the rigger device stays out of your way for every day movement. If I had one complaint, it would be the width of the buckle. This belt can also be used for a makeshift tourniquet if needed. The next is that I think the hook and latch (Velcro) will give up after quite some time. I think this is a great belt for the cost. Shawn from Massachusetts 2nd question * Question: * My ideal bug out vehicle? Gas or diesel? Standard or automatic? 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive?  He thinks gas, standard, 4 wheel drive.  Diesel is hard to crank in north and 4 wheel drive for snow. * Answer: This is a “it depends” type of answer.

Everything from batteries to medical advice to some even more personal advice and LOTS of electrical questions. Show Notes: theprepperpodcast.com/052 Housekeeping: This is the episode that should have been the one year anniversary, If you would like to contact me and leave feedback for the show: * theprepperpodcast.com/facebook, twitter, googleplus * Email me (ken (a) theprepperpodcast (dot) com) * comments in show notes * best method is to call: 978-KNOWS-IT or 978-566-9748 JBradbury may be coming back as our news correspondent. I have been asked for product reviews… so here is my first one!   Product Review: Tru-Spec Lightweight Pants   TRU-SPEC Men’s Lightweight 24-7 Pant * Bought two pair to try * Charcoal and Coyote * The material is 65% poly and 35% cotton * First thing I noticed was the feel of the fabric.  It was thin but seemed extremely strong. * When I put them on * 2 buttons * Legs were too long, but hemming is an option * The comfort fit slider waistband * No elastic or side tabs * Wearing the pants * I could feel the strength of the reinforced knee * I kept finding pockets! * Comfortable in almost all weather * When worn with a golf-polo, and charcoal tru-spec, I looked like law inforcement. * Tried them with a dinner jacket, but it didn’t work.  Black probably needed for this * Besides a jacket, the charcoal could be dressed up quite a bit * The coyote was exactly the same, but looked like a brown Carhart work pant. * As I was traveling for about an hour, I placed a couple drops of water on the pant * Two smaller drops took about 30 minutes to get into the pant * The larger drop took almost an hour * I bought a pair of 5-11s for the trip as well for comparison, but I like these pants much more. Brian from Grand Rapids * Question: * What level of medical training do I need?  Currently first aid with aed and cpr.  Considering emt basic.  Good idea? Overkill? * Answers: * The more medical training you have, the better… * I just finished a few medical training seminars that you can download theprepperpodcast.com/firstaid * first aid is great, * when you add cpr you add the ability to save lives * when you add aed, you dramatically raise your chances for saving lives.  This only works if an aed is available. * EMT-B in true practice is extremely dangerous. * Items that you may deal with: * Odd scene scenarios such as electrical failures (svc or power lines), gas explosions, exposure to hazardous chemicals * Things you may be responsible for: * Assessing the situation * Initial Trauma Assessment * Rapid Treatment in Mass Casualty (START Method)

(Article the Third) Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. * * Religious Freedom: The government can’t place one religion over another, can’t stop people from practicing their religion * Freedom of speech: can’t stop free speech * Freedom to peaceably assemble: can’t stop me from getting a group together on the public streets in front of the white house and yelling, “Government officials are crooks!” or to complain for being such idiots. * Freedom of press: Cannot stop news sources from reporting the news * Freedom to petition: The government is required to allow every person to bring their issues to the table.  Typically a petition will require a certain number of signatures before it is considered valid. 2.  045: Motivational Words – How To Bounce Back from Failure Leading to Success - The Prepper Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:57

You have never heard the “how to bounce back from failure” speech like this.  With fairly motivational words, I discuss that failure leads to success, in life, AND IN PREPPING. Don’t be afraid to fail Show Notes: theprepperpodcast.com/045, theprepperpodcast.com/failure How do people define failure? Merriam-Webster: Omission of occurrence or performance or Lack of success or falling short Redefine Failure Instead of lack of success or non-performance, we can define it as just part of the process on the path to success Instead of something done wrong or messed up, we can redefine it as innovation lessons or character building exercises Failure is a learning opportunity. Failure is success if we learn from it Reasons to fail now instead of later: * Availability of income streams * You aren’t getting younger * Current situations are more forgiving that those you are preparing for * You aren’t emotional * You can make it a learning opportunity because you are rational * Compounding Results * It is a skill and knowledge investment. * Accidental Success Fear failure and Reduce Failure: * Don’t fear it to the point of inaction, just enough to understand the risks, how to mitigate them, your escape strategy. How to use failure: Feel it: Don’t move on too soon.  You need to allow yourself to understand that you had a failure.  Allow some time for it to sink in and for you to process the emotions. Don’t get attached to them. Reflect on it In your pause, reflect and decide what went wrong.  Was it careless, was it a trial and error? Claim Responsibility If it is your fault, don’t blame others If it is outside your control, don’t blame yourself. If your involvement was cause of the failure, accept it so you can learn from it. Admit it Acknowledge your misstep, and move on so you can refocus going forward. If you can’t admit it, you can’t fix it. Take Action Create an action plan with steps you will take.  At this point, you don’t try. You learned, came up with a plan, now take action. If your actions fail, you are back into the steps for using failure. What not to do: Move on too quickly Don’t dismiss the failure as small or trivial.  You won’t learn from something that you see as a minor issue. Blame or make excuses If you don’t take ownership, you can’t learn and correct the mistake. Only work on what you can control. You can’t control the outcome if you don’t take some ownership. Deny or Cover Up If you deny your part in the mistake, you are doomed to repeat the past Give Up Easily Don’t give up because of fear or “not wanting to deal with it”. Giving up is a real action that may be taken, but If it is out of fear, you will harbor regret. The road to success is paved in failure. Don’t be too afraid to screw up, or you may not ever begin. Now isn’t a good time, Well, It’s never a good time. I want you to begin your projects, fail at them, learn from the failures, and ultimately pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and start over. Eventually you will find yourself prepared, successful, and enjoying life, and your projects

What is the history of Labor Day? When is Labor Day? or What is Labor Day’s date? What is the labor union’s involvement in the history of labor day? What is Labor Day? Holiday said to celebrate the common working man or woman and how they have built the United States. People take the day off for this, ironically enough. What is the history of Labor Day? First Labor Day Observance law passed Feb 21, 1887 in Oregon. 30 states have followed suit by 1894. June 28th congress passed an act that the first Monday in September will be the holiday. What is the labor union’s involvement in the history of labor day? Labor Day is lined with the blood of many workers that died at the hands of tyranny. Pullman Strike: “Civil Conflict” between American Railway Union and Railroad workers against Pullman Company, General Managers’ Association, The U.S. Army, During the panic of 1893, Pullman Palace Car Company cut wages George Pullman refused to lower rent for workers at same time Many of the workers joined the American Railway Union Response from General Manager’s Association was to hire black people (explain racism of the time) adding racial tension In 1984 , after a peaceful rally for the strike, workers set fire to buildings and derailed a loco, and lots of sympathy strikers began striking across the western states The federal government, under Grover Cleveland, had to get involved and an injunction was obtained barring union leaders from supporting the strike. The American Railway Union ignored, so troops were called to enforce the injunction. When a general Union Strike was called by Eugene Debs, president of the American Railway Union, but the other Unions opposed it. Thousands of U.S. Marshals and 12000 U.S. Army troops were sent to stop the strike, because they wanted the mail running again. When you send troops and wage war on angry people, they get more angry and try to fight back! 30 Workers were killed and 57 wounded at the hands of the us military and us marshals What did the media, have to say?: Of course they sided with government and ran smear campaigns against the boycotters At the end of the strike: Debs was arrested, and got six months in prison When this happened Grover Cleveland had to stop the potential riots, so congress quickly and unanimously signed within six days of the end of the strike. They didn’t want more strikes popping up. After the fact, A national commission was appointed to investigate the strike,
