009 True Crafted Story Behind the Pilgrims First Thanksgiving - The Prepper Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:22

This is a special Thanksgiving podcast on the true story behind the pilgrims first Thanksgiving. We can craft the Thanksgiving story from all of the facts. Don't forget to give me a review and comment on iTunes (http://theprepperpodcast.com/itunes) to help my ranking so my podcast is noticed.  I am also on Stitcher Radio (http://theprepperpodcast.com/stitcher). The Story: What is the typical story of thanksgiving? 1621 The feast was actually a hunting party and it lasted 3 days long. There was no thanksgiving Another view: Genocide 1637 700 indians killed Massachusetts Bay Colony Puritans Gov. John Winthrop My opinion based on the facts 1620 Landed and founded New Plymouth Half of the colony starved and got sick New Plymouth Colony were seperatists (English Disinters) Pathetic hunters and horrible butchers English City Folk Squanto Returned from slavery in England, knew their language. Taught them to hunt game, fish cod, and trap for hides, and grow corn. This tied into the 1621 period. Communism They shared land and production By 1623, it didn’t work, it was failing BIG. Gov. William Bradfords book “Of Plymouth Plantation” told story In 1623, they held a meeting. Decided to share land, but not production. Raging success. Doing well until drought Lack of food pushed them into “humiliation” (prayer and fasting) After each one, they had meals. They became more frequent Drought subsided with a 14 day rain. All crops revived. People attributed the rain and large harvest to God Governor Bradford proclaimed November 29th 1623, a day of thanksgiving. There was no sharing of food with the Natives. This was the first Thanksgiving under ‘civil’ authority. This is the one I feel is real National Observances of Thanksgiving John Hanson, who was president of the Continental Congress, on October 11, 1782, declared that the fourth Thursday of every November was to be a Thanksgiving Day. Then September 25, 1789, Congressman Elias Boudinot, from New Jersey, proposed that the House and Senate jointly request of President Washington to proclaim a day of thanksgiving for "the many signal favors of Almighty God", one day after the House of Reps voted to recommend the First Amendment of the newly drafted Constitution to the states for ratification. October 3, 1789, George Washington created the first Thanksgiving Day designated by the national government of the United States of America. Lessons Learned from The Real Thanksgiving Communism doesn’t work. People are lazy and selfish People don’t want to work for the gain of others (much of the welfare system) People GIVE when they see a need, because it feels good Russia screwed up as well Population was small so they could turn their mistakes around Shared land worked but shared gain did not Guess what our new governmental system is starting to resemble We should all be prepared for rough times as these We should know how to hunt, fish, trap, build, and much more. Half of the Separatist population died in the first year because they had no idea what they were doing If you ever end up in a situation with minimal or no support, it would do you well to be self-sufficient If hard times hit, it would be a good idea to have a small community, or neighborhood of “like-minded” people that can work to a common goal of sustainability and survival. This includes people that have needed skills, and those that are generous to help others. Call to Action: Learn a new, self-reliant skill this holiday weekend. Spend tons of time with the family,

You want to know how to find your way out of a bad situation.  The first rule is to know where you are relative to where you want to go.  The next thing you need to do is finding true north.  In today's podcast I will tell you how to find the north star, and how to find north using other methods such as: * Polaris (North Star) * Southern Cross and the South Celestial Pole * The movement of the stars * The stick shadow-tip method to find east and west * Orion's belt to find south * The crescent moon * Makeshift Compass Needle * A dial watch Do not trust your direction to anthills, moss on trees, tree branches, or melting snow.  This is especially true when you are lacking in experience.  The more knowledge you have and practice with it, the better equipped you are if you need to find your way back to civilization... or even escape from it. I have the Grand Trunk Hybrid Hammock and my children have the Grand Trunk Ultralight Hammock. * Tarps. You can make A-frame shelters and lean-to shelters with it. Collecting water, waterproofing pack. * Small hiking or dome tent. I prefer 2 person tents. I actually have the Alps or Alpine Engineering Mystique 2. * Light and Firestarting * Flashlights- LED. I prefer battery with hand crank or shake backup. I keep headlamps because they are great hands-free lighting * Signal Flares * Tea light candles. * Lighters * Waterproof matches * Utilitarian * Survival knife: I have the Colt tactical survival knife * Good Mulitool: I have 3 Gerbers, but Leatherman is great also. * Compact Shovel or E-tool * Pen and paper for memory and to leave notes to rescuers * AM-FM weather radio with battery and crank option * LOTS of paracord.  003 Basic Survivalism, & Where a Survivalist Should Start - The Prepper Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:27

(http://theprepperpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/cover-150x150.jpg)Emergency survival can be an overwhelming task.  We begin to hoard. What we need to do is think critically analytically about what is the most likely scenario. Let’s think in terms of needs first.  What are our needs? 1.Food 2.Shelter 3.Water 4.Warmth\Cooling 5.Clothing 6.Medical 7.Self Defense Self-Defense will initially go away, but not for long. Now, we will think in terms of length of time.  Many local scenarios will require 3 or so days, or 72 hours.  Then something could happen on a larger scale... a month.  6 months. A year. More preps and organization for larger scenarios. Now we need to fufill the needs that we thought of. I want to help, but am only a man, with an opinion.  I am not the one-stop-shop of your every prepping needs.  So, how do I know that I am missing something in my preparations?  Do a drill. After this is done, and based on your prepping analysis, you prepare for 72 hours of full blackout.  Stressful, so give yourself and family some comforts. My motto: Happy Wife, Happy Life. Next, you prepare for 72 hours on the move… This is where a lot of people end up with a 72 hour “bug-out bag.” Then you prepare for 1 week at home. Then 1 week away. Then 2 at home. Then 2 away. 1 month at home. 1 month away. We consider all of the needs on the list for each time scenario.  By starting smaller, we can complete the goals in a timely manner.    Blog post: How to Begin in Emergency Survival  (http://cleversurvivalist.com/2013/01/09/how-to-begin-in-emergency-survival/)

Let's cover the top natural or extreme disasters and hazards that are likely, or not, to occur and the priority your preps should take. When preparing for disasters, we must choose the mundane over the insane. What is the "disaster multiplier?"  The simple concept that disasters that are smaller and have less global impact, are typically the most likely. Remember, that when you prepare for the most likely scenarios, you will end up preparing for larger ones. * Job Loss, Loss of Bread Winner, and Loss of Family Member * Mugging, Attack, or Break-Ins * Fire or Flood * Loss of Local Water Supply * Tornados, Hurricanes, Volcanic Eruption, Large Scale Fires, Winter Storms, or Earthquakes * Economic Collapse or Food Shortage * Viral or Bacterial Pandemic * Nuclear Disasters, Chemical or Biological Warfare * Super-Volcanos * Impact from Space or Solar Flares, Polar Reversal, Black Hole My Blog Post on this: Different Types of Disasters & Priority of Survival Tips & List (http://cleversurvivalist.com/2013/06/25/different-types-of-disasters-priority-of-survival-tips-list/)
