An Evolution: Will They Pay For It? (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 09:17

It seems logical to build a business around something people will pay for, but we're not always logical. I certainly wasn't when I started out. Let's take a look at how my business has evolved -- and how my thinking regarding my target audience has changed along with it.

The Permission (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:13

This project isn't meant to be a blue print for entrepreneurial success. I don't want you to take notes and decide you're going to do all of the things I suggest. Some of my advice may not fit your personality. It may not work for you. And that's okay. No, this isn't meant to be a template or a blue print. Instead, see it merely as permission.

The Hustle Fallacy (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 04:26

"Hustle" in and of itself is not a bad word. It means working hard. It means not quitting. It means giving all that you have. It's a quality that I value as a youth baseball coach. But entrepreneurs have distorted the word's meaning. Hustle has morphed into work using well beyond what is deemed acceptable time and effort. Is this really what we want??

Evergreen vs. Nevergreen (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 05:38

What is evergreen content? It's something you create -- a blog post, a video, a training course -- that doesn't have an expiration date. Or, if it has an expiration date (everything is evolving all the time!), it will retain its value for at least a couple of years. I never considered this concept when I started my business or when I chose my focus of Facebook advertising. Had it been important to me at the time, it's possible I would have gone a different direction.

 Create a Routine (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 07:08

A simple routine is the secret to productivity. Don't over book. Create a theme with a couple of primary focuses for every day. Your health and "big why" come next. Fill it in from there. Say no A LOT to keep your schedule flexible.

Something You Own (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 04:32

The more of your business that you own, the more that you control. You don't own Facebook. You don't own Twitter. You don't own YouTube. You don't own the Apple App Store. Facebook may change their algorithms. Twitter may shut down. YouTube may close your channel. Apple may change their business model. You are at their mercy.

Following the Crowd (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 06:42

If you follow the crowd, you will only be a blank face in that crowd. Separate yourself. Show why you're different. Allow your core values to shine through. Know that just because someone reached a certain level doesn't make them perfect. They make mistakes. They aren't as polished as they always appear to be. They may even be covering up some big deficiencies. Understand that they are human, just like you.

Establish Your Core Values (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 04:49

"Core values" are who we are as well as who we aren't. They draw a line in the sand. "This is something I stand for" or "This is something I would never do." It may seem obvious, but it's not. We all have different core values. We all have differing points where the line is drawn. It's why some people are so willing to bend or break rules, written or unwritten, to make a dollar.

The Freedom to Say "NO" (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 03:37

Before you agree to something, think through how it impacts your routine. How it impacts your plans and your structure. Are you willing to make those changes? Before you agree to something, think about whether this is something you'll be proud of. Is it in line with your core values? Will it energize you? Think about the things that you have been agreeing to do. Is there anything you can say "no" to?

"Does It Energize You?" (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 04:48

The question, "Does it energize you?" completely changed the trajectory of my business. What little things are you doing now that don't energize you? That maybe you don't need to do? That may be important to your business, but that you could delegate to someone else? What big decisions are sitting on your desk? Maybe doing this thing seemed like the logical next step. But does it take you in the direction that you want to go?

Create without Judgment (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 06:47

How do you create? It could be blogging. It could be email. It could be video or podcasts or something else entirely. Find a method of creating where you're comfortable and you can churn and learn.

My Big Why (Solopreneur Project) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 04:38

Those who take on the challenges of solopreneurship tend to be grounded in a "big why." Why would they choose to take this risk? Why would they go on their own?
