Mike and Andrew discuss: The origins of Joomla, including its origins from Mambo. The top features in Joomla 1.6, including comments, ACL (access control lists), nested categories, and more. Lots of cool things I didn't know about! Things to look out for in Joomla 1.6—take note that there won't be any backwards compatibility with Joomla 1.0 or 1.5. How will migration to 1.6 work? Then we briefly say goodbye to Joomla 1.0, which won't be supported past July. Been way too long since the last episode, but here it is! Episode 16 is out. In this episode Mike goes through a bunch of updates, including: Doggy Dish launches a Joomla Podcast. Mike disagrees with them about the best editor—JCE is superior to JoomlaFCK. JCE 1.5.3 comes out with new Word Paste feature. Sounds great. Mike's working on a photo comparision feature—do you have a favorite? Admin Praise2 is out—if you've been frustrated by the admin interface of Joomla, check it out Joomla Admin Mobile—If you have an iPhone, get this app. Let's you administer your sections, categories, articles, users, and menus. Hopefully they can build in support for other Components. New ways to create content for Joomla: ZOO and K2. Use one component to create content, make a download section, events, and more. Right now, K2 is more feature-complete and is free. Looking forward to the additions created by the Google Summer of Code: Front-end editing looks especially great. Mike's first ever guest interview with Stephen Fisher, lead designer of the Joomla team at the CMS Showdown at South by Southwest (SxSW). Steve shares how he became involved with the showdown, how well Joomla did in the competition, and how the whole thing was a win for open source. I of course declare Joomla the winner by far. Steve also shares his insight into Tamka, the hot new set of blogging tools about to hit Joomla. And of course I can't let him off the hook without giving his one big complaint about Joomla. I also talk about Joomla Day UK, and about some big news in the Joomla world: CCK (Custom Content Kit) has arrived in two forms with Zoo and K2. Sorry for the delay, but episode 13 is out! In this episode, Mike takes a look at: Joomla 1.5.9 released—fixes security issues and a bad bug where "Finish Publishing Date" was set the same as "Start Publishing" for articles created from the front end. Big changes to the Joomla Extensions Directory: New look. This summer, will only be listing extensions for 1.5. Also this summer, will only be listing extensions that are non-encrypted and licensed under the GPL. What does this mean for users? For developers? Mike takes a look. New Joomla Developers site is coming Question of the month: How do you reset a Joomla password? Use phpMyAdmin. Would be nice if this tool was built into Joomla.
