Please join Brian Bloom, Ben H.(Aroen), Douglas Bowser, Charles Bowser, and Mike Johnson (our on location media producer) as we make our epic appearance at the 2011 Origins Game Fair in downtown Columbus, OH. While we were there, we got a grand tour of the event, thanks to staff at the GAMA media/press staff. We cover new NWN Modules and modules/PW’s close to their Hall of Fame status. While we were at the game fair, we had the honor of interviewing Shane Hensley, the Executive Producer of Cryptic’s upcoming title, Neverwinter. At the end of the interview, we have included a bonus interview of GMX (Geek Media Expo) as they discuss their upcoming events that pertain to D&D content authors. Shane Hensley, Executive Producer, Neverwinter With over 20 years of experience in the interactive entertainment industry, Shane started out as a freelance designer and writer and has worked on hundreds of computer, card, role-playing and miniature games, as well as novels, for over a dozen companies and his own company, Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Shane joined Cryptic Studios in 2004 as a lead on City of Heroes/Villains and on a number of prototype projects. He left Cryptic for a brief period to create his own games and was appointed head of several studios in Arizona before coming back “home” to work with his many great friends at Cryptic. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in History and Political Science, served in the VA National Guard, and received his MA in Special Operations from the American Military University. While the city of Arenjun and the setting is taken from the Conan stories of RE Howard and others, the adventure itself is original. It is suitable for PCs of around 15-17th level, either a pre-existing PC who completed Conan Chronicles 1 or a new PC level who can be autoleveled at the start of the game.

Neverwinter Nights News Shattered Lands – Scars of Time (NWN-1.69) ( NEW PW ) http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=gameworld.Detail&id=1356 Shattered Lands, is based in Forgotten Realms, and is a server where most play styles are welcome. The server is meant for fun and relaxation with guidelines, rather than rules. It has been designed around a role-playing or acting concept, but “power-gamers” are welcome, so long as they are respectful to the community, and are even encouraged to participate; as long as they bring something to the metaphorically placed table. The setting takes place in Faerun, as mentioned above, along the High Ice glacier, which for unknown reasons to the random traveler, has had a path cut through the ice, where rumors of vast gold, artifacts, and even tales of ancient ruins of Netheril await. It is said that the land beyond the ice, is known as the “Shattered Lands”, and has had native residents for a much, much, longer a time, than the path has been opened to Greater Faerun. A path that is rumored to only have been accessible for some estimated five hundred years. These estimates come from the Sheragrad nomads, who have only discovered this peculiar region in the last one hundred years. The Gether Caravans have taken it upon themselves to aid travelers through the Anauroch desert, to the nomadic camp, and even provide them with a small boon so as to keep them safe during their first few travels, for reasons unknown. The traveler arrives in the desert, the caravans pulling near the mines; the nomadic camp lay shortly off to the West. Their destiny lay in their own hands. SALVATORE. ———————————————————————————————————————- Neverwinter Nights 2 News Advanced Script Compiler for NWN2 By Skywing http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2PlugIns.Detail&id=99 This project includes a NWN2 toolset plugin that adds an improved script compiler (based on Edward T. Smith’s nwnsnsscomp) to the NWN2 toolset. The compiler is seamlessly integrated and automatically used when compiling scripts from the toolset. Features include better code generation, better warnings and error messages, and the ability to receive more than one compile error at once. Additionally, an improved console script compiler (replacing nwnnsscomp) is also included, with various bugfixes and improvements over nwnnsscomp. In particular, NWN1 datafiles aren’t required anymore for the console compiler, and nwscript.nss can be loaded from the game zip files. Various fixes are also made to ensure that scripts compiled with the console compiler are also compileable by the stock script compiler. News Segment Info NWN 1 NWN Java 3D Model Viewer by Alessandro Borges This is an updated version of the NWN-J3D Java model loader by Revinor. It was recompiled by Alessandro Borges in order to work with newer versions of Java 3D- which is required to run the program! NWN 2 Realms of Trinity – Chapter 5, Artificer of the Deep Release Releases 5/1/2011. New Module Alert Baltron’s Beacon by Beazulbub ( A classic TSR 1981 D&D PNP module conversion ) A strangely delivered advertisement has led you to a sage named Demetrios. He needs a rare component to complete a desperately needed potion. The journy to retrieve it will take you through a large, unexplored swamp to a ruined keep, the former headquarters of a vile cult that once claimed the lives of many innocent youths. You cautiously accept the mission. But who knows what monsters lurk in the vast marsh? Are the old ruins occupied, perhaps by things even more dangerous than the previousl residents? Beware, for the eerie green light shining upward from the central tower, the beacon that guides your way, may attract others as well. To succeed, you must penetrate the keep and find a unique Black Flame worshipped by the old cult. Could those evil ones be lurking about still? You will know soon… To solve the mysteries of Baltron’s Beacon, you must excel in handling wilderness, building ruins, dungeons, traps, puzzels, and monsters. Player- Single or multi-player. I’ve just uploaded a 5 part tutorial to YouTube which should help you get on the track to making and importing your own animated textures. At the end of the tutorial you’ll be able to create your own animated textures from scratch, import and convert ANY animated .GIF into a NWN-ready sprite sheet and have access to tools which will allow you to basically convert any moving image sequence (including from videos) into an animated NWN texture. With its seedy, darkened alleys bustling with peddlers, beggars, and thugs, Agrenost feels like a living city, full of hidden mysteries to explore. I played a rogue, and not only did the author make the shopworn rats-in-the-cellar quest interesting, he used it to immerse me in the story and the environment. I really did feel like I was starting as a lowly gutter-rat who, through the twists of fate, rises to the level of hero… Little details, such as town criers shouting the news in the street, or the run-down appearance of the chapel in the slums, really give the module flavor and make it come alive. The NPCs, while not astounding, do have personality, the story is interesting, the author makes good use of custom tilesets and other content to give the module a fresh appearance, and the combat is very challenging.” Razide0506 (voted 9) New Module for NWN2 Against the Cult of the Reptile God. Terror by night! The village of Orlane is dying. Once a small and thriving community, Orlane has become a maze of locked doors and frightened faces. Strangers are shunned, trade has withered. Rumours flourish, growing wilder with each retelling. Terrified peasants flee their homes, abandoning their farms with no explanation. Others simply disappear… No-one seems to know the cause of the decay – why are there no clues? Who skulks through the twisted shadows of the night? Who or what is behind the doom that has overtaken the village? It will take a brave and skillful band of adventurers to solve the dark riddle of Orlane! This module is a remake of the classic 1982 TSR Dungeons & Dragons module by Douglas Niles, for a party of characters level 1-3, ideally new first level adventurers. The odd bit here & there is different due to the limitations of the toolset (& the builder), but on the whole I’ve tried to keep the feel of the original. The adventure is designed for Single or Multi-players, and help is available in the starting town if any is needed to add skills to the party. Depending on your level, experience & play style, you may need more or less of them to help you on your way. Please be aware though, Brother Gareth gets a little excited sometimes & forgets to equip his maul in his enthusiasm to get smiting. I’ve talked to him many times about this, but he’s just too ‘enthusiastic’ for his own good sometimes. Sleepwalker 1 : Desert Greed v1.42 ( Missing 1 vote ) You awake in a desert oasis, with no memory of recent events and a strange amulet attached to your neck. Somehow, you must figure out a way to return to your home, and hopefully along the way piece together what has happened to you…. Sleepwalker 1: Desert Greed is a plot-driven single-player adventure for a first level character, and will get you to level 6-7. Be prepared to enjoy poker games, fishing, undead henchmen, logic puzzles, plenty of alignment options, and item creation. See readme for version changes. Playing Sleepwalker 2 requires you to use a fighter, paladin, cleric, ranger, or druid as your first level.
