Brian and Rachel Goulet discuss timelines for new TWSBI products, new Diamine inks coming soon, timelines for various out-of-stock products, the new Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro, Take-Sumi, and Shin-Ka inks, the TWSBI and Lamy mechanical pencil, and product reviews across similar products. This is our last Write Time for a while. Thanks for being ever-patient and ever-flexible with us. It has been a bit of a roller coaster for us personally over the last several months, and we want to make sure that we keep the core of our business healthy.
Last night was the first Write Time of 2013 and in our usual fashion we ran a little over our normal goal of an hour broadcast ;). But that's okay! We were on a roll. We covered what we have been up to over the last month, the new Pilot Iroshizuku inks, Ama-Iro, Shin-Kai, Take-Sumi, Diamine Music Set, a pack of ten unique inks named after composers to arrive sometime soon, TWSBI 580's, Noodler's Ripple Ebonite Konrad pens, new Rhodia/Clairefontaine products coming very soon, Clairefontaine 1951 notebooks, Rhodia Premium 'R' gift sets , Exacompta 3"x5" index cards, Scented J. Herbin supple wax, Rhodiarama Webnotebooks now available to retailers by individual color, and our thoughts and goals for 2013.
This week we're back to our healthy selves and talk about the discontinued TWSBI 540 to be replaced by 580, timeline for the release of TWSBI Mini stub nib units and Vac-700 nib units, clear TWSBI Vac-700 release (today!), TWSBI Vac-700 inkwells, TWSBI Eco, 850, TWSBI journals, gauging interest in TWSBI ballpoints/pencils, Art Contests for 2013, Goulet "Ink Diet", Noodler's 54th Massachusetts and Konrad Brush Pens, and Q&A from the chat.
This is a recording of our live broadcast from December 5, 2012, Write Time at 9. We (Brian and Rachel Goulet) talk about TWSBI Minis, Pilot Metropolitans, Platignum pens, Platinum 3776 Century Chartres Blue, and other various random pens, as well as what pens/ink/paper we recommend for beginners/gift-givers.
Despite broadcasting from a slightly different location due to the lights being out in our living room, we talked about the Lamy Royal Red Studio, the TWSBI Mini, Pilot Metropolitan, the Edison Nouveau Encore LE, and Platignum pens.
A special thanks goes out Brian Gray of the Edison Pen Co. and Wayne Mullins of Ugly Mug Marketing for taking time out of their night to call in to us. Brian joined us first to introduce our new Edison Nouveau Encore LE in Flecked Tortoise. It's a gorgeous material that normally isn't available in high quantity, but Brian was able to procure enough for us to do a limited run in this Goulet exclusive pen. We're absolutely thrilled about it, as we've been drooling over this pen for the last year or so! I'll be doing a more comprehensive post with a video soon.Wayne Mullins also joined us as we announced the winners to our join contest, So You Have A Contest…. Wayne is a marketing guru and author of the book So You Have A Website…Now What?, where he included us in chapter 1. There were 25 lucky winners that will be receiving a copy of his book, a Platinum Preppy, and a Clairefontaine notebook.
Last night we just ended up doing a pretty laid back Write Time broadcast, but we still managed to fill a fun hour and a half ;) We talked about TWSBI Minis, Pilot Metropolitans, the Parker 5th Element (ha!), among many other various random fountain pen and ink topics. It was a Q&A style broadcast, and was a lot of fun conversation. For the first time, we actually have a transcript of the chat for you to view as well, so you can see all of the tangential conversation (with some actual useful links and the like) that was going on during the broadcast. Enjoy!
We announced the winners live during our Write Time broadcast last night at 9pm EDT. We would normally do this broadcast on a Wednesday, but since yesterday was Fountain Pen Day, we wanted to make it a special celebration. We announced the winners, but also discussed the Pilot Metropolitan, TWSBI Mini, Noodler's Q'Ternity and 54th Massachusetts, and new Noodler's Konrad colors. We also gave away a slew of prizes during the broadcast, so if you're watching it recorded, know that the prizes are already claimed!
As a special event to celebrate Fountain Pen Day, we did a live broadcast showing all 10 (12 if you count our kids!) members of the Goulet team. We have bios of me, Rachel, our two kids Joseph and Ellie, Sam (both Doran and Vaughn!), Alex, Ben, Will, Randall, Drew, and Jacob, but it doesn't show each of our personalities quite like a video does. So we had a little meet and greet where we streamed a live video with an interactive chat so you could meet everyone on our staff. We recorded the video for everyone that wasn't able to make it live, and here it is. Enjoy!
Write Time is back! This is the first broadcast we've had in over 6 months, and it was a good one. We had a great crowd join us live, and here's the recording of the video for those of you who wanted to hang out with us but just weren't able to make it last night. We're not able to record the chat, unfortunately, but we try to talk in such a way that you still understand everything that's going on ;)
I'd mentioned a while ago that I would try out doing live broadcasts on the fly when I have time during the day. Well, I had some time today while I was swabbing up 5 new Diamine colors (Sargasso Sea, Grape, Ochre, Peach Haze, and Misty Blue) and 10 new De Atramentis colors (Verdi, Puccini, Shakespeare, Handel, Tchaikovsky, Raphael, Augustus, Dante, Brahms and Don Quichote), so if you have any interest in watching me do that, enjoy!
After a week-long teaser, we finally released the new Edison Nouveau Encores last night during our Write Time broadcast, with Brian Gray of Edison joining us by phone. The chat wasn't working for most of the broadcast which was a total bummer, especially since we had so much to talk about! The broadcast went for a solid two hours, mainly because we had been on hiatus for the last month and had a lot to talk about.
Last night's broadcast was great, Rachel and I made some 'night coffee' and it helped to give us a little energy boost to share everything we needed to talk about before taking our Write Time hiatus.
Yesterday, we introduced the Fountain of Knowledge, a library of reviews, comparison tools, and glossary terms for all things related to fountain pens on the GouletPens.com website. Essentially, we have created a place where anyone interested in learning about fountain pens can go, especially those new to the hobby. It's been well-received so far, but we'd really love to hear what you think!
Jamie Williams Grossman was kind enough to join us for Write Time last night to share some preliminary results of her Noodler's Eternal Ink UV-resistance test. See how she does her test here. She does a lot of work with ink washing and acrylic painting, and runs a great blog over at Hudson Valley Sketches that I recommend you visit.
