OK, I am really sold on the idea of ketogenic diets, meaning eat a high fat, low carb diet as a prescription for curing a LOT of problems. If you have an auto-immune disease, meaning a disease where your body is attacking itself, like celiac disease (intolerance to gluten- which is just about ALL of us!), irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, arthritis, and EVERY disease that ends with ITIS- a ketogenic diet will really help all of these, and more!!There are so many problems with our current, modern, processed Western diet that I can’t even start: So, let’s just start over, shall we?? Reboot yourself!If you don’t want to have a “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short life” , to quote Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century philosopher of sorts who was a monarchist- he wanted us all to live under monarchies!- we were supposed, (according to Thomas Hobbes) to succumb to authority... and live in civilization.“Au Contraire! “ says the Wisconsin Philosoper PaleoJay. The solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short life that he was talking about was actually what was available to the average civilized person of Hobbe’s own era, which was 17th century Britain! Hunter Gatherers, barbarians, and Paleo folks actually lived vital, long lives on average, once you took newborn mortality out of the equation...Child mortality was VERY high in the old days- BUT, if you survived birthing, you would probably live 70-100 years, and in a very healthy state, barring death by wounds, animals eating you, or accidents. Nowadays, however, modern people live solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short lives, shortened by Diabesity: diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and all the other “itis” diseases of civilization- All caused by our modern, processed, poor, nasty, brutish diet!!What to do??Well, for long time readers and listeners to PaleoJay’s Smoothie Cafe-Just sidle up to a stool at the Cafe- and ORDER A TALL, COOL, PALEO SMOOTHIE!That will take care of most of your modern ills... really! Let’s start with the fun stuff- http://alldayenergygreens.com/ are a powder you can purchase on line.  I have been sampling it for awhile now, and have to say it is a convenient, fast way to get some anti-oxidant greens into your diet- especially if you don’t have a Vitamix blender!  Now, I would reserve the greens for when you are in a hurry and pressed for time, or when traveling... the gold standard is always real food!  But, that said, this is a good product to include in your nutritional repetoire!For daily use, again, I strongly recommend a //secure.vitamix.com/Default.aspx?COUPON=06-007058 Vitamix to chew up your veggies and other foods for you, and making them so available to your body for maximum nutrition!  On sale until Dec 2; with free shipping, this is the best deal you will find all year!  And, you can throw in some Sll Day Energy Greens powder along with your real frozen or fresh fruits and veggies, spices and eggs and kefir and everything else to maximize your health!The other thing I’ve really been having fun with and want to recommend to all of you in our PaleoJay’s Smoothie Cafe Tribe- Rings and Parallette bar training!  If you are unfamiliar with these gymnastic tools, they really are a great way to enhance the bodyweight workouts that Perfectly Paleo Exercise consists of.  Pushups on the rings are a totally different animal, far more challenging and more inclusive of the stabilizer muscles in the arms, shoulders, chest and back... as are Dips on the rings, chins and pullups on the rings, flies on the rings- I mean, you can do a LOT on the rings, and I am just scratching the surface!  The real beauty of the rings is that they twist in your hands, and do not stress your joints unnaturally, which can happen in movements using a bar, or even hands set directly on the floor as in doing pushups.  This is why I use a Perfect Pushup device when doing high rep pushups- it revolves with your hand, taking stress off of the shoulder joints- rings do the same thing, but for LOTS of exercises!I’ll include here some photos and a video so you can see how both rings and parallette bars can add to your workouts:Today, for instance, I did a complete Visualized Resistance training routine in the early morning, as I watched a streaming Netflix movie- (Centurian- highly recommended)!Then, using my Perfect Pushup handles like a mini-parallette bar, I did L-sits and some other P-bar exercises at the end, and it was challenging and kind of fun too!  A good way to test your growing strength and body awareness developed through your Perfectly Paleo exercise regimen...My rings are hung from the rafters in my basement, and so when I workout down there, in the primitive domain of my old farmhouse cellar, I can turn myself upside down, and do all kinds of gymnastic things on the rings, and then go to my home made P-bars, which are higher off the ground than my Perfect Pushups handles, and try some more advanced tricks, since my legs are up higher and more maneuverable.So, make yourself some P-bars, and hang a set of rings- they are cheap, VERY effective, and actually fun to use!  A great addition to your Perfectly Paleo routine!!Now, that’s the fun part of this podcast- let’s delve into the realm of Obama care...I don’t care where you stand politically, you have to understand that Government Run health care is anything but healthy- and this means not only for you and your personal health, and that of your family, but  for your fiscal health, and the fiscal health of our country!  The notion of Big Health Care itself is wrongheaded- it is the path we have been on for a long time, decades actually, and has resulted in the fattest, sickest, most disease ridden population since the time of the Black Plague- only this time, the sicknesses are caused by our own poor diets, poor exercise habits, and lack of sleep!  AND, this is all exacerbated by the many unnecessary prescriptions of pharmaceutical drugs, all of

Paleojay podcast #57 Are we really Paleo, or are we... Barbarians?? First off, I want to say- I am so glad to have my computer back and running!  Thanks so much to Elan technology of Columbus Ohio for “saving my PASTURED bacon!”  New hard drive with total data recovery- thank guys!!  And now, lets go into the show: I have always loved the Paleo metaphor for diet and lifestyle!  Paleo, ancestral, primal; they all kind of work- they get the idea across that we have strayed from our roots- our future is in our past- we have REALLY MESSED THINGS UP!! But, when I really think about it, at this point we should really call ourselves barbarians! I have always loved reading about ancient history and civilizations!  Did you know that the mummies of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs tend to be riddled with artherosclerosis, arthritis, and most of the modern diseases that we thought were only... modern!? Well, they are!  The Egyptians of thousands of years ago might have been surrounded by “barbarians” that had none of these diseases, and most of their own lower classes probably were also immune, since they didn’t have the money to eat lots of grains, mainly in the form of sweetened confections that the upper classes prized.  The more in depth that the old mummies are studied, the more modern diseases are discovered in these ancient corpses! And then there is Tacitus...  a Roman from 98 A.D., he wrote about the German barbarians of the time-  “he mentions that they all have common physical characteristics, blue eyes (truces et caerulei oculi = "sky-coloured, azure, dark blue, dark green), reddish hair ( rutilae comae = "red, golden-red, reddish yellow") and large bodies, vigorous at the first onset but not tolerant of exhausting labour, tolerant of hunger and cold but not of heat.[2] In Chapter 7, Tacitus describes their government and leadership as somewhat merit-based and egalitarian, with leadership by example rather than authority and that punishments are carried out by the priests. He mentions (Ch. 8) that the opinions of women are given respect. In Chapter 9, Tacitus describes a form of folk assembly rather similar to the publicThings recorded in later Germanic sources: in these public deliberations, the final decision rests with the men of the tribe as a whole.” Sounds like a pretty fair, modern group of folks, really, doesn’t it?  He goes on to say that they don’t eat much grains, being from a cold, inhospitable land (nothing like the sunny Mediteranean!!) and mainly subsist on meat, vegetables, and dairy herds!  Sounds pretty PRIMAL, doesn’t it?  I think these guys would have loved a good Paleo smoothie, along with a nice grass fed steak topped with butter and bacon!  And think of this: potatoes weren’t even discovered yet!!  These ancient barbarians were golden!! At any rate, what I think about the German barbarians is this: WE, we Paleo folk, are more like THEM than pure hunter/ gatherers!  WE live in civilization, or preferably on the outskirts of it (in more rural communities that are self-sufficient), and can choose to pick and choose from what civilization has to offer, but ignore and pass by the decadence and rotten morals that it is also riddled with...  We can use the technology of civilization, but ignore and shun the GMO’s, the pharmaceutical poisons, and the toxic processed fake foods! We instinctively know better!   We can be Noble Barbarians! Taking what we want of value of modern civilized society, and ignoring and reviling what we KNOW to be foul!   Kind of gives you a mission, doesn’t it?  Do what’s right-  Eat what’s right- only real food... RIGHT?? Exercise right- real, bodyweight, and moving-through-nature exercise! Sleep right, plenty of it! LIVE right- avoid decadence and the EVILS that civilization tends to accumulate Live TRIBALLY- this is what the barbarians kept up from paleolithic times- a TRIBE is the only natural a

It really is rather remarkable- even the usually middle-of-the-road, inside the box thinker and conventional diet cheerleader Dr. Oz has come on board with him along with his new, excellent book Grain Brain.  I know, it seems unbelievable that the Wizard of Oz, who has been the man hiding behind the curtain of outdated science for all these years, has now come out and jumped on the anti-grain, low carb, paleo bandwagon!I don’t know what happened; maybe the wizard gave himself a medal, and got courage ala the cowardly lion- who knows?  At any rate, it appears that Dr. Oz refers patients to Dr. Perlmutter, simply because using his methods and theories of proper diet, he gets real-world GREAT RESULTS!Here, watch a video clip of Dr. Perlmutter on the Dr. Oz show- http://www.doctoroz.com/episode/do-carbs-cause-alzheimersYES, FAT IS BACK!!And carbohydrates, particularly GRAINS, and even more specifically WHEAT are all shown to be the dietary nightmare that they really are!This turnaround by Dr. Oz seems to be a real turnabout of the entire dietary lipid hypothesis, that has been around since the 1960’s, and has never been proven...  You know, the hypothesis that virtually everyone has taken as gospel for all those past 50 years or so, the same 50 years that obesity has exploded, and diabetes, cancer, and heart disease are rampant in their spreading across the nation, and the world!The hypothesis that told us fat is bad, grains are good... sugar is fine, whole grains are the foundation of our nutrition and  places them at the base of our stupid Food Pyramid and now My Plate...Well, this whole theory is wrong- not only wrong, but exactly opposite of how we should be eating!  It truly boggles the mind that it has taken this long to convince people to start to look at the truth- I guess it kind of shows the completely addictive qualities of grains and sugars:  We don’t WANT to give up our DRUGS!For that is indeed what they are, grains and sugar have drug-like effects, that also have the effect of making us fat, diabetic, and progressively very, very sick.So, read David Perlmutter’s book- get the audio version if you don’t have time to read; that way you can just listen as you drive!  But get his ideas into your head, so that they can save your mind, and the rest of your body!  It’s never too late, as he points out, he has very elderly people reverse their symptoms of dementia, along with a host of other diseases, quite quickly.  Go Paleo, young or old, man or woman!!The other thing I want you to remember to do?ADD IN GOOD FOODS!  Eating a paleo diet is not just about subtractions!!There are a number of folks who go gluten free- well, this is a great first step, but eating bakery goods made with rice flour, etc.- while not containing gluten, these products still  turn to sugar, right in your little mouth, and then proceed to poison your rapidly growing NOT so little body.  Step two- you give up grains!  This will really get you healthier, fast- but NOT if you still eat lots of processed foods, sugar, rice, soy- you will still be raising your blood sugar to dangerous levels!  All these years of worrying about our cholesterol levels- we should have been monitoring our blood sugar levels...Step 3- add in lots of fats and vegetables!  A Paleo Diet is not just about eliminating bad, man made foods- more importantly, it is about ADDING IN LOTS OF REAL, GOD-MADE FOODS!!!Pastured butter- rich in K2- it takes calcium away from heel spurs, fights kidney stones, heart plaque, helps blood pressure regulate, and actually can help you remineralize your teeth and bones!  Pastured eggs, grass fed beef, pastured pork, organic vegetables of all sorts are all wonderful foods, and grass fed beef liver is a fountain of youth!  Full fat Greek yogurt, raw milk and cream, bacon- believe it or not, these are all extremely satisfying and healthy foods!As for fruit, it is wonderful as well- in small amounts!  I usually use a handfu

Change your body language while you exercise!I you haven’t seen it already, go ahead and watch the Ted Talk by Amy Cuddy:She explains in great and convincing detail just why our body language is so important- not only as to how others see us; but more importantly- how we see ourselves!So, now you know the crucial importance of our own body language in reshaping the way we see ourselves, and how we relate to and our seen by the rest of the people in our world.  Sure, you can just practice the poses that Amy Cuddy describes so well- But to really enforce these poses, you need to incorporate them into your daily, visualized resistance exercise program!  I have been doing this for years, and never realized until I saw this video that what I was doing had more than just wonderful physical benefits-I was also reshaping and practicing my body language, over and over, by flexing my muscles to their maximum potential, while simultaneously  holding an isometric pose at the end of the movement that mimics a “power pose”!Who knew?  I knew this type of exercise had remade my physique, and at the same time cured the many small injuries I had accumulated in my years of heavy weight training and distance running- but I had also noticed a huge change in my personality, and how I interacted with the world.  I thought it was just confidence brought about by self-actualization- the achieving of many long sought physical goals, one after another.  But now I see that, by inadvertantly practicing many thousands of repetitions of “power posing”, I had actually remade my own self image, bit by bit!I also think that, when these poses are done intentionally, with extreme concentration and muscular contraction as is used in visualized resistance ala Perfectly Paleo Exercise, that the effect of the posing is dramatically increased, and cemented into the psyche of the exerciser!Here is a video of mois doing a brief demonstation of Visualized resistance exercises:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI65LRENdKoThis is from a year and a half ago, since which I have begun adding in some lat spread types of back exercise, done in the same virtual fashion- you know, like the body builders do, but you don’t need to wear tiny trunks and do it on stage!  (Although at first a mirror helps!)Just put your fists on your hips, and spread those lats as wide as possible!  Hold a few seconds isometrically, and then repeat for 5-10 reps.Hold your arms outstretched sideways from your body, and then flex your lats wide again, by pushing your arms bak, and flexing as widely as possible!  Make yourself huge! So, there you go!  Change your body and your attitude and self-image by practicing visualized, Perfectly Paleo Exercise!  It’s a two-for-one, and it really works!

Yesterday I came up with my take on the viral youTube video What does the Fox say? by Ylvis, a pair of brothers from Norway.  They came up with a really fun, catchy song and video, which I have managed to make into my own little caveman version...Sorry about that, but here it is, at least the audio portion- you can view the whole video version at paleojay.com, or on youTube under Paleojay.I hope you enjoyed listening to that as much as I did making it last night!  And now, you know that this is one solid year of weekly PaleoJay podcasts, and so a little celebration is in order!  And so, since I need to get out celebrating by working on my new “tiny house”, a little 8 X 14 foot little house, built by local Amish craftsmen- it is going to be a Fortress of Solitude, a golf club and Irish pub, a retreat in my back woods!  Who says PaleoJay doesn’t know how to have fun??  It even has a tiny little electric heater that really pushes out the heat for chilly Wisconsin autumn nights, a real bar! (just installed yesterday- yes, your own PaleoJay does imbibe to calm his inner barbarian- and lots more is planned for the decor...  stay tuned, there will be many photos of this little cottage in the future!  It’s important to maintain a sense of playfulness in ones life, especially as you get into your 60’s as I am...  I have my campfire down there in the woods, and rings of colored lights all around it, a bottle tree!, and a giant tree stump “stage” where I and other local musicians can perform for the neighbors!  It really is a lot of fun, and I will include you by showing pictures of it all on www.paleojay.comPaleoJay’s Quick tip of the Day!Today, I just want to give you, since you are my one and only listener, a quick tip or two that you can implement right away, and immediately improve your health and wellness!Number one is coconut oil!  If you don’t use this wonder food daily, and liberally, start now!!  I always put a big Tablespoon into my coffee in the morning, along with whipped cream and cinnamon and cloves, and find it both very satisfying, and it has a way of getting your body burning ketones from the fat right away, giving you a very clear brain function.Coconut oil is also a wonderful oil to cook with, since it is a medium chain triglyceride it actually helps to both burn efficiently and to actually help you to burn body fat!  This is one reason why I always recommend including liberal amounts of coconut milk into your daily Paleo Smoothie, along with plenty of vegetables, greens, spices, green tea, kefir... well, the list goes on, but a smoothie like this does more for your health, right out of the gate, than any amount of anything else you can think of, and really easily!  And, the coconut oil is a big part of it all!You should always have at least two jars of coconut oil on hand- one in the kitchen, of course, and the other in the bathroom! That’s right, it is the ideal skin moisturizer, hair conditioner, and shaving cream!  I always have my jar in the bathroom with a butter knife in the jar- after my shower, I scoop out a small amount (a little goes a long way!), and rub it until it melts in my hands- then, I rub it all over my body and face!  Nothing moisturizes like coconut oil; and I love that it goes right into my bloodstream through the skin!  You will never use petroleum based lotions again, especially now that you know that they too go right into your bloodstream through your skin!  Sickening, really.If you shave before the oil soaks in, that is all the lubrication your razor will ever need- never have I had such effortless, close shaves as I have since I started using coconut oil!  This would apply to both men and women...  And for women, to put coconut oil in long hair, let sit awhile, and then wash out- this is the best hair conditioner available anywhere!  Your hair and skin will both be smooth and healthy...Just get a good quality brand of Virgin coconut oil, a pressed f

I just got back, this morning from a whirlwind connection with my familial tribe. 93 yr. old father, year born unknown mother, and assorted brothers, nieces and nephews...the connections are diverse, and definitely not of the daily variety, but they are all- family! I had gone down to Illinois to help my brother clear out an overgrown woods at his new house and acreage with my new chainsaw. (My old one was just worn out, having done more in its 10 year life than ever should have been expected of it!) My new, 20” bar chain saw wasn’t cheap, but I will say it was a Stihl...Anyway, as we worked, clearing the logs and fallen trees from a creek in the back of his property that had been overgrown and neglected for about 30 years, we were doing what has been done by man since time immemorial- working together, as a tribe, accomplishing real physical work that really needed to get done. And as we worked, other relations all showed up, and then, it was time for a celebration of sorts- we drove over the river and through the woods, to grandpa and grandma’s we’d go!It was fun to connect with my little nieces and nephews, not to mention my little brothers, when we all got there. It’s funny how many old memories are rekindled, how many shared laughs from the past are in our minds, as if experienced only yesterday! One nephew wanted to see Grandma and Grandpa’s old photo albums, and really laughed when he saw old photos of his dad as a kid, and of me when my hair wasn’t white as the snows of Mt. Olympus! Now, traveling can be exciting and diverting, but it can also make it hard to remain paleo, even if you have convinced SOME of your family to also “get on board”. Food is the hardest part: the best solution is to, as I did, pack a generous lunchbox full ofPaleo Smoothie! A proper, paleo type of smoothie, as I outline in detail on www.paleojay.com, and in my two ebooks Paleo Quick Start and Perfectly Paleo Exercise , which are both available anywhere online that books are sold, like Amazon, the iBookstore, BarnesandNoble.com, and of course at paleojay.com.I say a proper smoothie because, a real smoothie is made by you, at home in your Vitamix blender, not purchased at a Smoothie Bar, or bottled by a manufacturer! The reason for this caveat? The smoothie you make yourself is the very healthiest, most nutrient dense nutrition possible for your body to consume. The other, “bought ‘en” version are loaded with useless sugars, too much fruit, not enough fiber, and concentrate totally on taste, and hardly any at all on nutrient density!Each morsel you consume should go to further your body’s ability to repair, regenerate, and revitalize itself! Anything else just drags you down.So, I packed canning jar after canning jar of Paleo Smoothie in my giant lunch box, along with a cold pack..Next, put in ample amounts of snacks, like almonds mixed with dark chocolate chips, celery with almond butter on it, an apple, macadamia nuts, well- any nut but a peanut, which is a legume! If you have been paleo for any length of time, you know what to pack! I always include a couple of tins of sardines. If you are really hungry, nothing is better for you than these little fish, since you are consuming the whole carcass- the bones, the organs (like the liver!)- this is really one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet.And so, you get the idea- it is way easier to prepare, and not be misled by temptations when you are perfectly full already. It also saves you a lot of money!Another way to cope is by just intermittently fasting or IF. This is simply compressing you “eating window” into a smaller block of time, i.e. rather than 3-6 meals (and snacks!) per day, just eating two, or even one meal a day, and fasting or skipping one meal. Almost everyone in the modern world is fettered in their movement, and in their eyesight, by the casts they burden themselves with. I am talking about shoes; which if worn constantly, make your feet incredibly weak and susceptible to all sorts of problems... like plantar fasciitis, flat feet, and just plain pain in the foot, which then tends to move upstream, causing pain in the knees, hips, and back! All of these chains of movement are interrelated, and if one link in the chain is weak, it alters the gait and just screws thing up throughout the chain of movement, and real damage to joints and resulting pain can and will result through bad planes of movement! This is all very serious stuff, long term. You can tough it out for awhile, but eventually you will become unable to move if you don’t address the imbalances.So, bottom line- at least for SOME of the time, your feet must be barefoot, and walking or best of all- sprinting! NOTHING strengthens a muscle and tendons like using them; the more vigorously the better! So, at a bare minimum, start leaving your shoes at the door, as the Asians do- do NOT wear your shoes in the house! It’s much more sanitary as well... Socks are fine- they do not force your feet into unnatural confinement and paralysis; they just keep your feet warm. So, that is step #1. Your feet will gradually strengthen, thru barefoot walking about the house...For step two, start walking barefoot around the yard, or park! It really is crucial to gradually accustom your feet to real work- walk barefoot outside as much as you can in the warmer months! Each step will gradually strengthen the complex tendon/ligament/muscular structure that is your foot. If you walk in shoes, your feet are in a cast, a cement overcoat if you will, that supports the foot like walking in moon boots- think about how fast, if you have ever broken a bone or witnessed someone who had their arm or leg in a cast- how incredibly fast that limb withered and became weak when so confined! Now, think of your feet, having been in a cast for most of your whole life-No wonder most folks wind up with foot, knee, hip, and back problems!!So, start at the source: fix your feet. Walk around barefoot! Jog around on green space (yard, park, whatever) barefoot! Sprint barefoot! Sprinting barefoot, which I do once per week or so, is the ultimate foot and leg and total body workout, bar none!! Just run sprints for a short distance, “wind sprints” we used to call them in high school track in the olden days- anywhere from 50 to 400 yards or so... no need to measure, just run really hard and fast (for you, there is no measurement of competition here!), and then stop, and rest a bit. When you have caught your breath a bit, take off the other way, back to where you started. Repeat, for oh, 4 to 8 more times... it’s your call, really!You are working your entire body, musculature, tendons, ligaments, heart and lungs- the works! Nothing in the world will lean you out like barefoot sprinting-And it hardly takes any time at all- if you go beyond 15 minutes you’ve done WAY too much! I always have flashbacks to little 8 year old Jay when I do my barefoot sprinting in my yard, since it makes me feel just like it did back then when I run all-out, barefoot, the wind in my hair and the grass against my bare feet... the only difference now is that my hair is white- and really, that is the only difference, and I am 61 years old! It really feels great!!The other really great thing about barefoot sprinting is that it forces you to breathe properly, i.e. COSTAL Breathing! Like most things in modern living, our breathing has also become adulterated, since most people breath shallowly, or “chest breath” a minimal amount, constantly...Like wearing shoes constantly, which drastically weakens your feet,

WHY are we destroying our Children??I think it is a given that young children, whose bodies and minds are developing, should be given the most nutrient dense, the most very nutritionally supportive foods that we can! I have heard SO MUCH in the Paleo Land about the importance of play.Duh, I know it’s important to play to be a totally rounded, healthy person- after all, All work and no Play makes Paleo Jay a dull boy, right? I mean, I get it; in the modern Western (and increasingly entire world), people in general work... far, far too much!But that’s not what I’m talking about, and you and I both instinctively know it.Work is not REAL WORK ANYMORE!!!REAL work is what our Great Grandparents did, every day, as did their grandparents and all our forebears and the endless generations of those who came before! Actual, physical, arduous, demanding physical work-Work that demanded you bend your knees, lift things, carry things, throw, cut, slash, and pound!In modern, 1st world today, almost no one does these things any longer.They go to the gym, do bench presses and squats, elliptical machines and cross fit work outs... They do kettle bell workouts, and Pilates and such, whatever video is the video-of -the-month on their DVD.Then, reading the Paleo info about “the importance of Play”, the typical Paleo afficianado runs off to play “Ultimate Frisbee”, shirtless, in their capris, and thinks :“I’ve done it, dude! The total Paleo thing- I worked in my IT job, standing up of course- with my suit, cool tie, and Vibram 5 Fingers all day, and then, I freaking played like a cave-dude with a plastic disc and then went home, put on my orange glasses to fight blue light, and went to bed at, like, 7:45 PM”.Although this is all very laudable (although, hereabouts, in rural Wisconsin, virtually no one talks like this!), a real, important point has been sadly missed by this urban caveman viewpoint: i.e.-You Played, but you NEVER DID ACTUALLY WORK!!Real work is something that can only be done for brief stints of time. It is accomplishing something, hopefully for yourself or a tribal member, i.e. family or friend that needs to do something physically on their land, or otherwise to help them survive and thrive!The best form of real work is like what I did last week- after my Neolithic Work, meaning After Agriculture Work, which is what work became after the discovery of agriculture 10,000 years ago, which was “fake work”- work that pleased the ruling classes by bolstering their own positions of kingship, and the ability to accumulate wealth in the form of stored grains. But I digress...Real, honest-to-God work is working really hard, for maybe an hour or two, for a real purpose, moving, (logs, rocks, animal carcasses, warfare)- whatever needs doing, and I mean REALLY needs doing- this is real work.I had three dropped trees, this past week, next to my house. My mission, should I choose to accept it, was to... move all the huge logs, branches, and brush somehow back away from the house.And so, I did. I didn’t hire it done. I didn’t just let it sit...I did it!I came home from my normal, Neolithic job, tired but- uh, not really. Although I’d worked out ala Perfectly Paleo Exercise each morning, I knew that that was really play. Now, I needed to get my good friend John Deere, along with his buddy the logging chain, and start into lifting and dragging...And so I did, night after night!I won’t say the process was fun, because it really wasn’t, not too much. (Although I did have music playing as I worked, which was really nice!)It was hard. It was arduous. It was painful, along with many scratches and scrapes, hard lifting (the trailer kept slipping off the trailer ball), and climbing back on the tractor and off...But, you know what?It was incredibly satisfying and rewarding!Now, I am more than ready for some Play time- because I have earned it!I’ll sing with the choir at church tomorrow- I’ve earned it!I’ll work out in the basement later, and do some barefoot sprinting- I’ve earned it!I’ll record this very podcast, and sing a little song at

Pretty much every day, I awaken quite early, about 4:25 AM in fact. “But Jay, But Jay!” I hear you yell- “isn’t that disturbing to your circadian rhythms, and, uh, just hard and a big pain?” Well.... NO. I get up then because- I can get so much done in the early morning, and it has become my favorite time of day! It is truly my me time, where I get in touch with myself, my body, and my mind as well. I also make my Paleo Smoothie which is the foundation of my paleolithic nutrition for the day, loaded with virtually everything my body needs. I also make Paleo coffee, in my Aerobie Press with organic coffee, and load it up with coconut oil (in my during my workout cup) and then with real whipped cream and cinnamon and cloves in my driving to work cup...) It is not a hardship to wake up to your favorite time of day, especially when you have gotten to bed at 8:30 or earlier- and so have had plenty of restful, restorative sleep and are more than ready to bounce out of bed! When the alarm goes off, I awaken, and then I start to breathe, deeply, from my diaphragm. This is the way to wake up gradually, and pleasantly, rather that wrenching yourself from sleep and stumbling to the bathroom! I continue this deep, diaphragmatic breathing for 5-10 minutes, enjoying the feeling of gradual awakening... Then, I arise, and go to the bathroom, where I do my mobility exercises- just gradually rotating each limb and joint gradually in turn, to fully awaken and energize my body and limbs in a slow, pleasant, and natural manner- king of like how a cat would gradually wake up from a pleasant slumber! I also do some self-resisted exercise, both for the arms, wrist and hands, neck and face; along with hindu bridging, which is kind of a total natural facelift and spinal restorer all in one kind of a deal- something everyone in the world, in my opinion, should do daily for both bodily and mental health! One thing that I think standard Paleo is missing is this emphasis on natural, real world exercise. I don’t mean to over-sensationalize it, but the future of health care looks that extreme- you will be part of one of two groups.  The first is that of a state run health care system, where all problems will be “medicated”, that is treated with a pill, or a drug.  We know how Big Government does things, don’t we?  One canned answer for every disease or problem...  No time to assess lifestyle.  Nutrition doesn’t matter- just look at our governmental My Plate, that recommends grains and vegetable oils as the mainstay of a healthy diet!  With the health care system of the future now pretty much set in place, this state run system will be running huge deficits by default, right from the start.  But, there will be alternatives- so called boutique or concierge styles of medical practice.  This is where you contract with one group of doctors and a clinic on a yearly or monthly basis, paying a fee upfront to be one of the patients of this private clinic.  Then, this clinic has the financial incentive to keep you healthy!  The healthier they keep you, the less the plan costs, and the more profit they make- this puts all the incentives in the right place.Robb Wolf, of Robbwolf.com has an elegant answer to this type of system in his www.specialtyhealth.com.  This is just this type of a boutique style of clinic that I spoke of before, that is based around keeping you, the patient healthy, rather than just using crisis management as it’s program, as standard medicine does today- you know, just waiting until the person is really sick and broken, like with a heart attack or full blown diabetes, and then finally doing something like surgery and drug prescriptions loaded with side effects; all at a huge cost, and vastly reducing the patient’s quality of life.You can go check out a long series of informative, scientifically based videos that Specialty Health has put up on youTube-  here is one particularly informative video that is also quite short-   This is the way to prevent health care/prevention- empower the patient, i.e. YOU through conveying simple knowledge that is based on the most recent scientific facts- not medical knowledge as it existed 25-60 years ago, as is done in standard medicine today!I know, for now we all need to have a basic insurance that covers us in the case of catastrophic injury or illness- but really, the point is hopefully that you never have to use it.  The only way this will happen, for now, is for you to educate yourself, and apply the principles of an ancestral type of diet and lifestyle, starting by eating real, natural, God-made foods exclusively, getting rid of all the crap man-made processed sugar bombs, sleeping well and amply, exercising briefly and intensely, and walking and stretching regularly.  Oh, and by ignoring any advice given by our standard medical clinics and the Government- this is key!  Go to any standard medical clinic, and you will by default be given drugs- this is what they have become- drug pushers!By doing all of the just mentioned items, and thus caring for ourselves as people have done since time immemorial, we will exclude ourselves from governmental interference in our health and well being, and put our health care back where it belongs- in our own hands!  Specialty Health is based in Reno, Nevada, and has been the choice of that municipality for the police and fire personnel with great success in both improving the long-term health of those employees and in saving money both!  Here is yet another link for you to peruse by Robb Wolf about Specialty Health:http://robbwolf.com/2013/03/20/paleo-diet-risk-assessment-update-2/So, I hope you becoming convinced that it is indeed up to you to take care of your health, and that of your families!  When these “boutique” style medical practices are up and running nationwide, and you have one in your area, that will of course make it easier, since your physician and clinicians will actually help you on your

I am excited about lots of things today- it is early, early, early Sunday morning; I had an energizing Perfectly Paleo workout this morning, and am ready to get this podcast out and running to you! Then, I will swill down a green Paleo smoothie I made yesterday and saved, and then run off to church to sing and play with Old Tyme Religion, a traditional hymn type of group where we update the classic hymns, but keep the message intact! It should be- a great day! (How about that for “low Cal”??)But, if you make a connection with, preferably, a local farmer who has grass fed cattle: grass fed liver is a killer food! (I mean disease and cancer killer!)...I have always had trouble with the taste of liver, especially beef liver- but no more!!Just get grass fed beef liver, grill it on your natural hardwood charcoal grill, and then you have it made, my man or wo-MAN! Just put the grilled liver in your fridge or freezer, put in a pan along with your free range eggs, and top it all with Hollandaise sauce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It’s high in GOOD fats (pastured butter and egg yolks), and really high in great flavor (pastured butter and egg yolks: nature designed us to LOVE what is really, really GOOD for us!!).The Hollandaise is really, really easy
