001-Your Horse Career Podcast-Beginnings, Bloopers and other Success Qualities | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:36

Show notes: WARNING: THE BEST PART OF THIS PODCAST IS THE LAST TWO MINUTES OF BLOOPERS! In this podcast we introduce ourselves and tell a few of the reasons that we are podcasting. We review a few of the topics we would like to cover in upcoming podcasts such as the different jobs available in the horse industry, attitude, success, failures and more. We ask for your feedback! Please leave comments or send emails to Jesse@YourHorseCareer.com. Stacy does an interview with Clark Bradley, an instructor at the University of Findlay, discussing the qualities he sees in students that are successful in the horse industry. Desire surfaces as a key quality. Jesse cites three keys: Desire, ability, and opportunity as he reflects on what Clark said. Also noted is the ability to be teachable, to accept coaching. Stacy reflects on how Jesse’s coaching has enabled her to achieve what she has including her famous bareback and bridleless ride. How can you identify if you have the big three: desire, ability, opportunity. Discussion of how to know if you have enough desire (refusal to give up) and how you handle failure…Stacy hopes to discuss failure in future episodes. Ability can be enhanced by WORK-time in the saddle. Desire can trump ability if ability lacks desire. Opportunity can be created by the seeds you plant. Discussion of loving horses or LOVING horses. Quote on the wall-“Work like you don’t need the money” James Michener Quote, learned at Dan Miller’s event-“The master in the art of living make little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.” (Stacy added the bold) Stacy plays key word phrases from interviews at Findlay. Cute little boy talks…. Jesse discusses how he has always been able to do what he loves. Stacy admits she can be more of a work-a-holic and makes more mistakes. Stacy uses the cute little boy voice again…. Stacy plays another interview with Cindy Morehead, instructor at University of Findlay, and lists the keys she sees in kids who are successful long term. Cindy identifies how quickly the instructors can identify the kids who have ‘what it takes’…and experience is not the key. Stacy relates desire in the kids to the desire we look for in horse. Jesse discusses the misconception that Jesse and Stacy had early on with horses that had ability but not desire. DON’T SKIP THIS PART! Beginning at 33:35 are the bloopers, yes, Stacy used the cute kid voice AGAIN and you can hear Stacy teasing Jesse when he says it is too hot in the room as well as Stacy admitting she almost threw up!
