Arcane Legends Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:17

Spacetime Studios spreads their wings from the mobile MMO genre with Arcane Legends, their recently released co-op RPG. Following on the heels of Pocket Legends and Space Legends, we’ll take a look to see if the mobile MMORPG genre has been perfected or if we’re dealing with a game that’s far from legendary. Listen now: Core Components: Team up with friends from all over the world in this new online co-operative RPG.Playable on iOS, Android, PC or Mac, this free-to-play game features: Free to play forever Unlock and customize class abilities Collect mystical pets that help you Find legendary weapons and items Play in Co-Op or Solo Mode Pros and Cons If you’re tired of the multitude of choices that you typically have to make before you get into game with an MMO or an RPG, then you’re in for a treat. One of three classes, some basic color choice, and picking your pet are all the decisions that you’ll have to make before you head into game. While this doesn’t make for much individuality with your character, it does get you to the action very quickly. Speaking of the action, there’s plenty of it! I focused on the mage class, and really enjoyed blasting large groups of enemies with my devastating fireballs and making the air crackle with my lightning bolts. Add to that my shield spell, and a few dozen health potions, and I felt near invincible. It may very well have been my playing style, but I could see myself spending way too much money on those potions just to survive. Fun but expensive. If you’re familiar with Pocket Legends, then the controls will seems instantly familiar to you. A virtual joystick located at the bottom left of the screen allows you to easily guide your avatar through the world. The abilities (4 maximum) that you can as you level are on the right side of the screen laid out within easy thumb reach. Another familiar element for Pocket Legends veterans will be the chopped up nature of the Arlor, the persistent world of Arcane Legends. There are small, mob filled zones strung together like grapes on a vine. I did find it a little tedious to constantly have to port from area to area, but the load times were quite short, so it’s wasn’t like the old Asheron’s Call ports where I’d get up and make coffee after entering a portal. While I was given some points from Spacetime Studio to spend in the store, I tried to play for the first five levels or so as a completely free to play player, and I found the experience to be reasonably satisfying. I didn’t feel that I was hampered by not spending money in the store, and the game, as far as I could tell, was wide open for me to explore. Once I did spend the points to get better gear, I found myself wading through the waves of mobs without much effort at all, as I had healing and mana potions galore, and with no cool down and only the depth of my wallet limiting me, I drank those down like candy as I incinerated mobs with fireballs and shocked them to jelly with lightning bolts. For all you collectors out there, Arcane Legends also bring a collectibles element to the game in the form of Pets. These battle ready companion will follow you around like a trusty companion, valiantly putting themselves in the line of fire to battle at your side. A nice addition to the game, although they play more of a combat role than the Torchlight vendor helper variety of pet.   While I’m not ready to say that I’ve found the perfect mobile game yet, I did find myself having a lot of fun in Arcane Legends. The world, while fairly simple, is colourful and fun, and the combat was action packed if simple. If I had a long commute on public transit, I could see myself spending many hours on my phone. As someone who drives to work every day though, I could not find enough in the game to pull me away from the more full featured games that I can play on my PC. It’s the Little Things No cool down on potion.

Lord of the Rings Online: Riders of Rohan Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:37

Galloping in at ramming speed is Riders of Rohan, the newest expansion to Lord of the Rings Online from Turbine. Legendary stories take place in these huge plains and are arguably the most popular area of all of Lord of The Rings books. Did Turbine capture the lore and legend of these epic lands? Lets explore with the Rohirrim and find out! Listen now: Pros and Cons Entering this expansion is very unique from the get go. The musical score brought Rohan to life instantly. It was indescribable the feeling I had when entering the new area for the first time. The music helped it feel like I had just stepped into Rohan. Then I got into combat and the game switched to battle music. I suddenly felt a bit reckless fighting to it like I was some sort of hero! It is amazing how a full orchestra can make you feel like something larger then life is about to happen. Chance Thomas did a amazing job composing this. The epic story picks up from where the Great River Region left off and tosses us into the breaking of the fellowship. You can play out some of those important moments from the book in session play. My favorite one was to play the fall of Boromir, where you try to slay waves upon waves of orcs as they try to take you down! The story then moves you into the Rohirrim plot and is well thought out. I think they did a excellent job with the epic story this time, and it reminds me that I'm not out here to just grind out ten wargs for the nearest warg eating npcs. The six new areas are The Wold, The East Wall, The Norcrofts, The Sutcrofts, The Entwash Vale, and The Eaves of Fangorn. These areas are all huge! I expected them to be very boring because they were mostly described as all plains in the books. That was not the case. Each town has its own charm. If you're like me, you will be exploring every corner of them. There are children running around, men chopping wood, soldiers practicing horseback formations, and women scolding their children. One woman is even shoveling horse poop! Who puts a poopsmith in their game? I was so happy to not see NPCs just standing around doing nothing. In Riders of Rohan, Turbine introduced a totally new mechanic, mounted combat. Riding across the fields at lighting speed and destroying your foes is the highlight of this expansion. There are three War-steed types: light, medium, and heavy. Light is made for speed and helps the caster type classes. Heavy is for the big damage dealing classes. The medium is a all around War-steed and is free for all players. They level up with you, and you spend points to make them work with your style. Learning to control your bucking bronco will take some time, kind of like driving a car on ice. You'll be sliding around for a while, but in the end, you'll fly! With each War-steed, you get three skill trees that are adjusted for each type: defense, damage, and speed. These change depending on what type of War-steed you choose, but most of it is the same. You can spend points on new skills, defenses, speed boosts or offensive bonuses. Or you can spend it all on buffing up your War-steed's stats. The best thing is, if you don't like what you spent them on, just hit refund and all of it goes back to zero and you can spend the points you earned again! You can do this whenever you like and as many times as you want. It only costs a few silver to make the change. Killing your friends has never been more fun with the updated Ettenmoors! The camps have been recreated with new graphics. The outposts now give damage buffs to the side that holds them. Keeps now give renown and commendation bonuses. Needless to say, anyone controlling all of them gets a massive bonus. Luckily there is a way to take all this back with stealth. Remember that underground instance through the Ettenmoors that was under-used? That is now revamped and is a underground tunnel system to the camps and keeps. Creep raids running into Freep raids underground is pure chaos.

WoW Pet Battle Crew #1 — Team: Clockwork Gnome and Tranquil Mechanical Yeti | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:17

Pet Battles in World of Warcraft are my latest obsession. I love experimenting with new abilities and team lineups to find unexpected combos that surprise my opponents. Whenever I find something particularly interesting, I'll share it with you here and tell you how to get the pets so you can try it yourself. Happy hunting! Listen now: Clockwork Gnome Role: Tank, Poke Type: Mechanical (Rare) Source: Dwarf Archaeology Defining Ability: Build Turret Tranquil Mechanical Yeti Role: DPS, Weather Type: Mechanical (Uncommon) Source: Quest in Winterspring Defining Ability: Call Lightning     Why The Combo Works The Clockwork Gnome excels at consistently pelting the enemy with a large number of small hits, and the Yeti adds a flat amount of damage to every attack dealt, which adds up fast. On top of that, the Yeti's weather summoning also adds a flat 25% boost to all Mechanical damage. How To Execute It Start every match with Tranquil Mechanical Yeti, regardless of counters on the enemy team. If your Yeti isn't facing his worst nightmare (an Elemental pet with Elemental attacks that can stun and/or root), use his first turn to Supercharge. This will let the follow-up Call Lightning smash for about half of the health bar of his opponent in a single hit. If your Yeti is facing a hard counter, just unleash Call Lightning and immediately swap in the Clockwork Gnome. The little mecha-midget's ideal play is to (1) Build Turret, (2) Rail Gun/Metal Fist, (3) Rail Gun/Metal Fist, (4) Build Turret, (5) Repair. That allows you to bash the target down to half health, then start repairing while your turrets eat through the rest of the enemy. This is great because it encourages your opponent into a risky move: going all out aggressive to try and kill your gnome before it can repair. If they attempt and fail, you have an easy victory. The safe move by the opponent is to swap in a pet that can stun/interrupt your Repair or absorb small amounts of damage (like Shell Shield), but that also forces them to waste a turn pet-swapping. Either way, your turrets are going to town while you heal. How To Get The Pets Tranquil Mechanical Yeti: This is either the easiest or most challenging part. The Yeti pet is crafted by Engineers who must skill up to 250 and complete a semi-lengthy series of quests in Winterspring to unlock the recipe and then farm the very specific list of materials needed to craft it from around the continents. Or you can just buy one off the auction house for a healthy hunk of change, since they're bind-on-equip. I wanted to earn mine the proper way on my Monk, so I spent about a day on my level 95 Mage farming the ore and gems needed to powerlevel Engineering to 250. After tinkering my way up the Engi ladder, I completed the Winterspring quest chain in about 20 minutes and unlocked the recipe to build my own personal sasquatch. Another hour later, I'd farmed up the materials I needed to craft one. Clockwork Gnome It's a rare reward from Archaeology, which can only come from Dwarf digsites. I got mine in Northrend's Storm Peaks personally, but you should be able to collect it from any Dwarf digsite. Eastern Kingdoms is definitely the best continent to farm Dwarf Archaeology. The plethora of Troll digsites there also have a chance to unearth a different battle pet, so two birds and all that! Suggested Third Wheels If you want to go all-in on the mechanical on-hit strategy, you want a pet that does frequent mechanical hits divided into as many small chunks as possible (Batter). Such as: Pet Bombling: Has an extra DoT to proc lightning strikes Cogblade Raptor: Adds a debuff that adds more damage to every attack Enchanted Broom: Not in the Mechanical family, so not as vulnerable to Elementals Alternatively, you could try to shore up your weaknesses by including a counter to the archnemeses of this strategy: Elemental-heavy and shielding teams.

Chris - GW2 Bill: Mechwarrior online Harry: Warhammer 40k Will Blizzard remain the 800lb gorilla in the room in 2012? Chris - No, down to 6 million subs by the end of the year. TOR + GW2 will take up the slack, combining to take about Blizzard’s dominance. Biggest /= dominant. Bill - Yes - 6 million will still make it the biggest subscription MMO in the world Harry: The decline in WoW subs will motivate Blizzard to reveal Titan, and will offer some kind of bundled deal for WoW year-subs to include free or discounted access to Titan, re-establishing itself as the king of the hill. Question Marks?  What can’t you quite put your finger on: Chris -Shadowrun Online - What’s the gameplay going to be like from an isometric perspective. Chris: Yes, but there will still be several games that stick to the purchase/sub model. When a game can get a certain number of subs, its a more stable income stream that leads to more stable content releases. Harry:Yes, but more companies will  adopt the Guild Wars model, rather than gimping their game. In fact, this will show the Asian model was correct all along, except for all the grinding. Question Marks?  What can’t you quite put your finger on: Chris: Mechwarrior Online - Why are so many games calling themselves MMOs when they barely have any of the aspects of an MMO? Harry: Why haven’t we seen any viable console MMO yet? What game could be announced that we haven’t heard about yet?
