 "Are You Sleeping?" Matthew 26:36-46 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:29

Pastor Al Veillette III 26:36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 26:37 He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and became anguished and distressed. 26:38 Then he said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me.” 26:39 Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, 46 “My Father, if possible, 47 let this cup 48 pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 26:40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He 49 said to Peter, “So, couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour? 26:41 Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 26:42 He went away a second time and prayed, 50 “My Father, if this cup 51 cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will must be done.” 26:43 He came again and found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. 52 26:44 So leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same thing once more. 26:45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is approaching, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 26:46 Get up, let us go. Look! My betrayer 53 is approaching!”

"Why is the Resurrection so Important in Both the Old and New Testaments?" Matthew 28 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:54

Pastor Ken Hutcherson 28:1 Now after the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 28:2 Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord 1 descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it. 28:3 His 2 appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 28:4 The 3 guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him. 28:5 But the angel said 4 to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know 5 that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 28:6 He is not here, for he has been raised, 7 just as he said. Come and see the place where he 8 was lying. 28:7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead. He 9 is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you!” 28:8 So 10 they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 28:9 But 11 Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They 12 came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him. 28:10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.” The Guards’ Report 28:11 While 13 they were going, some 14 of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened. 28:12 After 15 they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 28:13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body 16 while we were asleep.’ 28:14 If 17 this matter is heard before the governor, 18 we will satisfy him 19 and keep you out of trouble.” 20 28:15 So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story is told among the Jews to this day. 21

"Victory Over Our Enemies" Pt. II Esther9:6-10:3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:20

9:6 In Susa the citadel the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men. 9:7 In addition, they also killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, 9:8 Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, 9:9 Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha, 9:10 the ten sonsof Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews. But they did not confiscate their property.9:11 On that same day the number of those killed in Susa the citadel was brought to the king’s attention. 9:12 Then the kingsaid to Queen Esther, “In Susa the citadel the Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men and the ten sons of Haman! What then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? What is your request? It shall be given to you. What otherpetition do you have? It shall be done.”9:13 Esther replied, “If the king is so inclined, let the Jews who are in Susa be permitted to act tomorrow also according to today’s law, and let them hang the ten sons of Haman on the gallows.”9:14 So the king issued orders for this to be done. A law was passed in Susa, and the ten sons of Haman were hanged. 9:15 The Jews who were in Susa then assembled on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and they killed three hundred men in Susa. But they did not confiscate their property.9:16 The rest of the Jews who were throughout the provinces of the king assembled in order to stand up for themselves and to have rest from their enemies. They killed seventy-five thousand 3 of their adversaries, but they did not confiscate their property. 9:17 All of this happened on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar. They then rested on the fourteenth day and made it a day for banqueting and happiness. 9:18 But the Jews who were in Susa assembled on the thirteenth and fourteenth days, and rested on the fifteenth, making it a day for banqueting and happiness. 9:19 This is why the Jews who are in the rural country – those who live in rural cities – set aside the fourteenth day of the month of Adar as a holiday for happiness, banqueting, holiday, and sending gifts to one another.9:20 Mordecai wrote these matters down and sent letters to all the Jews who were throughout all the provinces of KingAhasuerus, both near and far, 9:21 to have them observe the fourteenth and the fifteenth day of the month of Adar each year9:22 as the time when the Jews gave themselves rest from their enemies – the month when their trouble was turned to happiness and their mourning to a holiday. These were to be days of banqueting, happiness, sending gifts to one another, and providing for the poor. 9:23 So the Jews committed themselves to continue what they had begun to do and to what Mordecai had written to them.9:24 For Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised plans against the Jews to destroythem. He had cast pur (that is, the lot) in order to afflict and destroy them. 9:25 But when the matter came to the king’s attention, the king 4 gave written orders that Haman’s 5 evil intentions that he had devised against the Jews should fall on his own head. He and his sons were hanged on the gallows. 9:26 For this reason these days are known as Purim, after the name ofpur. 9:27 Therefore, because of the account found in this letter and what they had faced in this regard and what had happened to them, the Jews established as binding on themselves, their descendants, and all who joined their company that they should observe these two days without fail, just as written and at the appropriate time on an annual basis. 9:28 These days were to be remembered and to be celebrated in every generation and in every family, every province, and every city. The Jews were not to fail to observe these days of Purim; the remembrance of them was not to cease among their descendants.9:29 So Queen Esther, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew wrote with full authority to confirm this second 6 letterabout Purim. 9:30 Letters were sent 7 to all the Jews in the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the empire of Ahasuerus – words of true peace 8 – 9:31 to establish these days of Purim in their proper times, just as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Estherhad established, and just as they had established both for themselves and their descendants, matters pertaining to fasting and lamentation. 9:32 Esther’s command established these matters of Purim, and the matter was officially recorded. 9 Mordecai’s Fame Increases10:1 King Ahasuerus then imposed forced labor on the land and on the coastlands of the sea. 10:2 Now all the actions carried out under his authority and his great achievements, along with an exact statement concerning the greatness of Mordecai, whomthe king promoted, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia? 10:3 Mordecai the Jewwas second only to King Ahasuerus. He was the highest-ranking 1 Jew, and he was admired by his numerous relatives. 2 He worked enthusiastically 3 for the good of his people and was an advocate for the welfare of 4 all his descendants. 5
