Gary Collins has a very interesting and unique background that includes military intelligence, Special Agent for the U.S. State Department Diplomatic Security Service, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Collins’ background and expert knowledge brings a much-needed perspective to today’s areas of simple living, health, nutrition, entrepreneurship, self-help and being more self-reliant. He holds an AS degree in Exercise Science, BS in Criminal Justice, and MS in Forensic Science. Gary was raised in the High Desert at the basin of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in a rural part of California. He now lives off-the-grid part of the year in a remote area of NE Washington State, and the other part of year exploring in his travel trailer with his trusty black lab Barney. He enjoyed, and considers himself lucky to have grown up in a very small town experiencing fishing, hunting, and anything outdoors from a very young age. He has been involved in organized sports, nutrition, and fitness for almost four decades. He is also an active follower and teacher of what he calls “life simplification.” He often says: “Today we’re bombarded by too much stress, not enough time for personal fulfillment, and failing to take care of our health… there has to be a better way!” In addition to being a best selling author, he has taught at the University College level, consulted and trained college level athletes, and been interviewed for his expertise on various subjects by CBS Sports, Coast to Coast AM, The RT Network, and FOX News to name a few. His website www.thesimplelifenow.com, best selling Living Off The Grid and The Simple Life book series (his total lifestyle reboot), blows the lid off of conventional life and wellness expectations, and is considered essential for every person seeking a simpler, and happier life.  Episode-2535- 20 Unique Garden Plants to Consider Growing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:14

Long ago, we are talking 2008 here I started this podcast.  I wanted to talk about all things modern survival related.  To me nothing is more rooted in our survival than the ability to feed ourselves so I started talking about gardening.  Still with tons of guns and gear types showing up in the early days I wondered if garden type shows would be well received.  Not only were they but they became some of the most popular episodes I have ever done. Within that group shows dedicated to a group of plants you can or should grow, especially lesser known varieties were the most popular of all.  Today we are going to follow that old school TSP Formula and talk about 12 plants you may want to consider growing. Not all of these will be plants you never heard of, some won’t even be considered unusual but all have unique things about them that are either worthy of your consideration or perhaps reconsideration. Join Me Today to Discuss… My most basic rules of gardening, if something meets 2 consider it if meets 3-4, grow it Grow what you like Grow what is expensive Grow what you can’t buy Grow what grows well for you with little effort 20 plants that I think everyone should consider Crosnes Ground Nut – apios americana Swiss Chard Vegetable Amaranth Green Onion Japanese Eggplant Gourds Burgundy Okra Water Cress Cutting Celery Orach New Zealand Spinach Nasutrium Radishes Sea Kale Long Beans Sorrel Tromboncino “neck pumpkin” Shiso/Perilla Bitter Melon Final Thoughts – Have fun, grow stuff and remember my three big rules   Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com RX (Medicate) – Theory of a Deadman   Sponsors of the Day Western Botanicals Free State Project   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2532- More about the Toolbox Fallacy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:56:25

Last week I discussed a YouTube video called “The Tool Box Fallacy” (a video by Passion of the Nerd on YouTube) and I challenged you guys to state a life goal that you have been holding back on due to this fallacy.  So far six audience members have written in and told me the goal they had and the metaphorical needed tool box that was holding them back and stated their intention to just get it done. Well 6 people willing to step up is enough for me so today we are digging into this at a deeper level. The basics of the Tool Box Fallacy is that people use things they claim they need but don’t have to avoid getting things done.  If I had a gym membership I could get in shape, etc. This is likely the number one excuse type in modern America today, that people use to avoid changing their lives and accomplishing great things.  Episode-2530- Saving Seeds and Starting Plants | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:53

Time for a two fer Tuesday.  Rather than cover one of these subjects in deep detail I plan to cover both with enough of the basics for you to just be able to understand the primary concepts and get started with both.  First on saving seed, the good news is this is really easy and man has been doing it with no special equipment for about as long as he has understood what seeds were.  It is simple to do and the key is picking the things that work best for you. Starting plants is actually a bit more complicated, but it is something honestly anyone can do.  The key is determining the method that works best, the best plants to do with with and the maximum ROI in time and money for your personal situation. Join me today to discuss… Why we should save seeds Locally adapted For specific traits Save money Because we can The basics Harvest seed from mature plants Pay attention to but don’t freak out about cross pollination Keep seed cool, dry and in the dark Starting Plants from Seed In the ground is always best if doable Some plants do not transplant well Light is key, so is heat Develop a watering system/schedule Don’t start a ton more than you can use Get your timing right Remember with Both of these Things Both are skill sets Cherry pick what you save or start There is no shame in buying plants or seeds Seed exchange groups make all of these easier Final Thoughts   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com All the Time in the World on SongFacts.com All the Time in the World – Deep Purple   Sponsors of the Day Bulk Ammo JM Bullion   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2527- NSFW – Donnie Gebert on Decentralizing Governance | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:59:35

Donnie Gebert is a former Army and Navy; Ammunition Supply, Infantry, Electronics Tech, and Intelligence Sergeant.  Donnie joins us today to discuss decentralized/DIY legislatures and the concept of “automating Congress”. This is a blockchain-based, peer-to-peer organization solution to governance by build-a-bear legislatures. Each individual signs the social contract, agreeing to not commit basic human harms like murder, rape, and theft. The individual then becomes their own Senator in their own legal silo. Legal silos aggregate to form legal structures.  Sound complicated or crazy, it really isn’t either one.  Tune in today to learn all about this revolutionary idea. A little bit on reloading, including my special 44 Mag “quiet load” and even a tiny bit of airsoft shooting.  Episode-2526- Time To Plan Winter Garden and Homestead Projects | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:14

The Summer of 2019 seemed to go on forever, September was no relief for much of the nation, it sure wasn’t here.  That said the last two nights were in the 50s and nights in the 40s are soon on the way by the end of the week.  The days are getting shorter and my morning walks result in blinding low sun angles at times.  Two days ago a pack of black birds numbering several hundred passed though my back yard.  Diamond doves has started showing up.  All of these things are signs that the seasonal wheel has turned and the down hill coasting into winter has begun. Now is the time to get serious about planning all the projects to get done before spring starts up and all that winter down time is gone.  I know right now it seems like Christmas is miles away and we all know months of “cabin fever” tend to follow in January and February, but trust me the holidays will be here soon, Thanksgiving will fold into Christmas in less time than you can imagine, we will ring in 2020 and be hauling ass toward spring way faster than you think. So while there is plenty of time to get things done over the next 5 months the time to plan out, prioritize and allocate time and resources is now.  Least what is going to happen this winter become that which you will “get to next year”. Join Me Today to Discuss… Why now is the time Step one is evaluate what you did this year What worked What didn’t What was clearly a losing play What did you enjoy doing, eating and having Now use that to plan your next steps Do more of what worked, if you need to Fix or abandon what failed Decide what you want to do next Setting priority Determine how much time and money each idea will cost you Develop a time and money budget for the entire period Determine what each project will do for you Now set priority and develop a time line Make sure to schedule things by dates Some things I am planning this year New garden beds and rehab aviary and wicking beds Complete rebuild of the green house and aquaponics system in it Develop a new plant starting system an schedule Remodel of my back shop building, shelves, organization, etc. New lighter, better chicken tractor Irrigation for new Pecan Trees as primary overstory Plan out meat livestock quantity, schedule, etc. Final Thoughts   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com Texas in 1880 – Forster and Lloyd   Sponsors of the Day Safecastle Royal The Berkey Guy   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2524- Expert Council Q&A for 10-4-19 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:36

Today its Friday so it’s time for the expert council show. To ask a question for a show like this, just send an email to me at jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com with “TSPC Expert” in the subject line. Today on The Survival Podcast, the expert council answers questions on solar, wells, permaculture, gardens, tool maintence, dogs, economics, legal issues and more. In the body of your email first tell me the council member your question is for. Second ask your question concisely in one to two sentences maximum. Third any and all details after that. This is the formula to give you the best chance of getting on the air. I do what I can to get as many of your questions as possible on the air but can’t always get to all of them. Our council is made of a wide variety of experts in everything from the tactical to the practical and everything in between. To get more information on our Expert Council visit our “Meet the Expert Council Page” to learn more about them and their specific areas of expertise.  Episode-2523- What if Everyone Did What they Most Want to Do | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:56:02

Does the question, what if everyone did what they most want to do, give you visions of the scary kind of dark T.V. anarchy?  Okay so if it does let me ask you a second questions, why?  What reason do you have for believing that most people want to go nuts with a chain saw and murder people or set the cities on fire?  Why do you think that way?  Does it really make any logical sense? Put another way, if I told you right now that you could do anything you wanted are you going to start pushing old ladies into oncoming traffic?  Or perhaps might you start burning down churches?  Robbing banks?  Do you most want to do any of those things? Further does anyone do things like that already?  Do people rob, steal, commit arson, destroy property, right now, today?  Do people get stabbed, shot, beat up, raped, cheated, etc.?  I think we all know the answer to that is yes, they do.  So how does help prevent such things to tell people to not do what they most want to do in the world, right now, every day? Is that message as dangerous as many claim?  Would it lead to more horrors, more theft, more fighting, more of everything bad?  Or might it lead to something else all together? Join Me Today to Discuss… What prevents you from doing what you most what to do Please note I didn’t say we should remove any of the consequences of doing bad or stupid things If you did what you most wanted would it include hurting people or taking their stuff What are you biggest reasons and excuses for not doing what you most want to do How much of what you do is already what you most want to do, specifically under current circumstances Who is more likely to harm others a truly happy person or an angry and stressed one Who is likely to be more happy one that pursue their dreams or one that suppresses them Do you even know what you most want to do What would happen if you figured it out and designed it into your life   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com Crumblin Down – John Cougar   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
