Episode-131- TSP Rewind – The Twelve Planks of Modern Survivalism – 8 Years Later | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:55:10

Today is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally Episode-1812- The Twelve Planks of Modern Survivalism – 8 Years Later and was originally published on June 21st, 2016. The following are the original show notes from that episode.. In 2008 when I founded TSP I wanted to be able to hang my hat on something truly original, rather than be another also ran. The goal was to build an audience not to siphon it from the markets of others. I thought about my personal philosophy and drilled it down to 12 tenets. These tenets have driven the podcast and our topics now for eight years. (as I publish this rewind it is now almost 12) Some of these tenets were common to prepping and some were far more universal, the most universal being tenet one, “Everything you do to “prepare” for emergencies, disasters or economic turmoil should be blended into your life in a way that improves your life even if nothing disastrous ever occurs.” It was upon this foundation that 8 years and one day ago I started The Survival Podcast. Rather than discuss any differences in how I perceive the 12 tenets today, instead I will simply present them with no notes or plans, off the cuff and let you decide if they have evolved, changed or remained mostly constant over 8 years.  Episode-2646- How Wrong Have Our Choices on CoVid Been | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:35

Stay home and save lives!  It is the creed we are all supposed to follow.  Apparently if I go out and walk by myself in the woods at a local park, what I am doing is akin to shooting an old person in the face.  According to Governor Gretchen “MeMaw” Whitmer I guess all of Texas is killing people because you can buy seeds and a garden hose when you are at Walmart which is already open and full of people anyway? My problem with the lock down strategy is it is ignoring facts in preference to catch phrases, something I have long said is dangerous to Americans.  We have kids with 200K in debt for a degree who are serving up Lattes at Starbucks due to phrases like, “every child should go to college” and a belief that any object to it is inherently evil.  Worse if I even ask a question as to its validity it means I want to deny an education to minorities and transgendered Asian or some such shit. You know what though at least college is voluntary and no one makes you take a loan for a degree in gender studies.  Lock downs are mandatory and they are train wrecking the global economy in ways we can’t even imagine yet.  For now we can turn everything back on and get back to a reasonable outlook in say a year, yes it will take that long.  How much longer though can we behave this way and expect to not create a global depression? Yea I said depression!  Keep this shit up for too long and you will be longing for the good old days of the Great Recession of the 2000s or the stagflation of the 70s.  It does not have to be this way and it seems that enough people are willing to get back to work to head it off, but man the objections and screeching that “millions will die” are being set off like warning sirens for a tornadic storm.   Is there any evidence supporting this claim though?  No, not really.  There are plenty of opinions and many by “experts” but asking an expert for evidence supporting an opinion is not a sin.  Presenting evidence contrary to said opinions is also not a sin. Is there evidence though that say, social distancing, facial coverings, no large gatherings and protecting the vulnerable are just as effective or close to it anyway as full lock downs in controlling spread of CoVid?  Yes and the evidence for this is increasing consistently.  Over 6 weeks ago I said in a Facebook post, “the postmortem on this over reaction will be ugly, how ugly is the only question to ask, not if but how bad will it be”.  We are not ready for a full postmortem yet, but we can begin to see the answer to my question is likely to be, very, very ugly.  How much damage are we doing and for how little gain? Join Me Today to Discuss… A man has presented math that says lock downs don’t work, he has gotten a lot of hate for it, but no logical rebuttals – link How bad is the economic damage and how long before it “overloads the hospitals” Why are we closing meat processing facilities instead of handling them like hospitals What would an effective social distancing/containment policy look like How one Dallas hair salon says they are opening prior to approval and why it is a good model How big is the denominator, why the spin is now that is a problem and why the spin is mostly wrong Why I really shudder when I hear “muh second deadlier wave this winter, get your flu shot” What you should be doing for yourself right now in the middle of all this shit What you should do for yourself as your state starts opening back up   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom There is no empirical evidence for these lockdowns TspAz.com Brass in Pocket – The Pretenders   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2645- Roger Rodriguez on Building a Small Animal Processing Facility | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:02:04

Roger Rodriguez is from a military family having been raised on military bases around the world and the U.S. He is also a former Marine having served as an infantryman from 91 to 95. From there a real estate centered work period began involving the buying, remodeling and selling of residential properties. Currently Roger is working with a fellow TSP community member in a small animal ranch. Bountiful Acres raises poultry and rabbits and processes them onsite to sell to restaurants and the local farmers market.  He joins us today to discuss how Bountiful Acres built a processing facility in central Texas along with how they provide the facility for people to lease for their own use.  The facility is available for both commercial and personal use.  Episode-2644- Establishing Your “Why” for Homeschooling | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:09

Matt Kleopfer joins us today to discuss homeschooling and finding your why as a home school parent.  Matt grew up as a stereotypical midwest farm kid, but like most decided to ditch the farm for a college indoctrination and pursued music and education. After 2 college degrees, Matt grabbed his helmet and shovel and headed for the trenches of public government education in a small rural Kansas town. After spending 5 years in the government school scene, Matt noticed some very alarming patterns. By this time he and his wife had four kids and were looking for an alternative. It all changed one day when Matt was on his 52 mile drive home and he listened to a podcast by “some asshole named Jack”. In the episode, Jack spoke about “Creating your won version of liberty”. That night Matt turned and tossed as the thoughts wouldn’t leave his head. He spoke with his wife the next morning and drove to school only to find the kids lined up outside the doors like robots waiting for their daily dose of mediocrity. At his first break, Matt walked down and turned in his resignation. Matt now home schools his four kids and runs a small 40 acre farmstead where they grow nearly all of their own food. In the last several years Matt has been a faithful listener and integrated many TSP ideas into their daily life. Jack, I thank you and the tsp community for all you have done for those pursuing a life of liberty.  Episode-2643- Topic Round Table with Jack | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:10

I did a lot of work this weekend and wore myself out pretty good.  Rather than a structured show I am going to just discuss a few different topics.  Some stuff on CoVid specifically a new potential treatment and some new results about anti body testing and random infection rates that seem to surprise everyone but me. I am also going to discuss some of the things I have been doing at my place.  Two new hydroponics systems are now installed, the new gardens are off to a good start and the place is green as green gets.  Sadly the fruit yield will suck this year due to a mild winter with a very late in the season frost.  Episode-2641- A New Look at “Bug Out Locations” in the Context of Pandemic Threat | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:45

Let’s start out with this, today’s show is not “since there is a pandemic you should run to a bug out location, or go buy one”.  Rather we have discussed bugging in (what everyone is doing) and bugging out (what only those with very well prepped BOLs are doing right now) many times.  As I thought about our old property in Arkansas I began to consider what it would be like if we still lived there right now. I also started thinking what if we had not sold it when we left?  Would we go up there right now?  My answer is a resounding no.  Everything thing here is better.  We have tons of storage, but the production is the real key.  This property could keep us fed for a year easy as long as we can feed the ducks and the fish, which we can do at least 50% of with no inputs if we need to. So I started thinking, now that we actually have had a global disaster, a real one vs. a conjured up one in a prepper fiction book, how does that change the concept of a bug out location.  I also thought about this, despite what the TV scares you into the odds you will die of CoVid are dramatically low, really low.  Like even if you get it only about 2% and much lower if you maintain good healthy life habits, watch your weight (obesity is the largest comorbidity other than age). More if you do have a underlying condition it is pretty easy to bug in almost anywhere and self isolate right now.  You can get food delivered and based on how CoVid spreads, reduce risk of infection to very very low possibility.  But as we as preppers must do, what happens when we say what if?  As in what if this pandemic had a death rate of say 15%, and a real rate like that? Anyone being remotely intellectually honest right now knows CoVid has a mortality rate well under 1%, because we have no idea how many cases there really are but we know it is minimum 5X the official number with the majority of cases being asymptomatic. So right now, I sit just north of Fort Worth, there have been just a hair over 900 cases in my county, which means more like 4,500-10,000 depending on the X factor.  This has all resulted in a whopping 29 deaths, in a county with a population of 2 million people.  So given my set up here, why the hell would I “bug out”.  I have an easily defended property, I can help my son and his family, I have neighbors who look out for one another and my odds of dying by slipping in the shower and breaking my neck are literally higher then dying of CoVid, frankly likely higher than getting it right now. If a real 15% of people were dying though, if the spread was far worse, if Tarrant County looked like NYC and we had people dropping like flies here, would I head for the hills?  Yea, I might.  If that were the case, what would I have needed to set up in those hills to make bugging out, make sense. Join Me Today to Discuss… Let’s start with some humor and take a lesson from it – Post I Read on the Air The real lesson on spread with CoVid is all about population density Most people bugged in, for most people it was the right decision, if I lived in NYC and had a choice though, I would have left What makes a good Bug Out Location Low population density Significant natural resources Built in security with enhancements Good neighbors Comfortable conditions 6 months of stored food, water and medicine Paid for or easy to cover payments Rapid up turn of food production The other side How much can you really take with you What about pets and live stock Going before you need to is the only real way to succeed What about the security of your primary location What about your income, your job, etc. The real lessons here The best time to bug out would be if times are decent or really bad There will never be a perfect answer or perfect solution BOLs are great, but not practical for everyone The current situation was best addressed with practical mental, physical, resource and financial preparedness There will be [...]

Episode-2639- Urban Gardening and 130 Varieties of Tomatoes with Emma Biggs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:45

Emma Biggs is a 14-year-old gardener and garden communicator. Emma raised over 130 tomato varieties in her Toronto garden in 2019—gardening in containers, in straw bales on a driveway, in a neighbor’s yard, in wicking beds under a walnut tree, and on the garage roof. Her garden is the source of many of her stories—and the source of produce that she sells in her neighborhood. Emma gives talks at libraries, seed exchanges, garden clubs, and garden shows. She is the co-host of The Garage Gardeners Radio Show, and co-host of kids gardening videos on the From Dirt to Dishes gardening channel on YouTube. She has a monthly blog on the Harrowsmith magazine website about growing tomatoes. Her latest book, Gardening with Emma, helps kids find the fun in gardening (and helps adults remember how much fun gardening is.) With an urban garden and 130+ tomato varieties, Emma knows how to fit lots of tomatoes in a small space. She grows hers in the ground, in a neighbor’s yard, in wicking beds, on the roof, and on the driveway. In today’s show Emma discusses different ways to grow and train tomato plants, everything from staking to cages, to trellises and in straw bales. She also shares some of her favorite varieties and how she can even grow tomatoes under a black walnut tree.  Episode-2636- John Bush on Boosting Immunity and CoVid-19 Impacts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:09:10

John Bush began his career in activism in 2002 questioning the official account of what happened on 9/11 and speaking out against the wars in the Middle East. He was introduced to libertarianism by the good Dr. Ron Paul in 2007. As he learned of anarchism and agorism he focused his energies on promoting alternative institutions like cryptocurrency and mutual aid groups. His interest in natural health led him to discover kratom and CBD, a natural remedy which he sells through his company Brave Botanicals. As of late he has been promoting self-growth and entrepreneurial strategies and helping people to overcome addiction.  John also curates the Health Freedom Report – https://healthfreedom.report/ – a Drudge style news aggregator that is updated daily sharing news from a natural and health freedom perspective. Today John joins us to discuss thoughts on boosting immunity, CoVid economic impacts, mandatory vaccines, stress management and more. Michael Whisler grew up in the suburbs of Central Indiana. He discovered his passion for the outdoors at age 17, on his first backpacking trip in Colorado. He then took his new passion to Indiana University, where he got his B.S. in Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Human Ecology. As part of his studies, Whisler participated in the “Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education Program” (C.O.R.E.) and was awarded Student of the Year in 2013, and hired back as an “Assistant Instructor” the following year. Whisler has held various other jobs during college, including: Outdoor Education and Gardening Program Leader” for the local Boys and Girls Club summer camp “Kid’s Wrangler” at Vista Verde Guest Ranch, in Northern Colorado “Assistant Trip Leader” leading kayaking and backpacking trips for Indiana University Outdoor Adventures (I.U.O.A.) Various restaurant and retail jobs.   After graduating in December of 2015, Whisler began working as the “Historic Orchard Management Intern” for 12 months at Capitol Reef National Park in South-Central Utah. During his free time, Michael volunteered with the Search and Rescue Team, fly-fished, backpacked, and tagged along on hunting trips. He then moved back to Bloomington, Indiana and began working for Bread and Roses Nursery, an organic-certified nursery and edible landscaping company, where he lived for two years in an off-grid cabin. Working for Bread and Roses was Whisler’s “Permaculture apprenticeship”. Michael has also subcontracted at various times for one of two companies: either Nifty Hoops, an Ann Arbor based Greenhouse Company or Streamworks, a San Antonio, TX based company that specializes in the installation of flash-flood monitoring and warning systems. By his count, Michael has held 19 different jobs over the last 10 years, possibly more, each job change done with the intention of learning new skills, increasing income, or improving overall work-life balance. In February of 2018, Whisler began EasyPeasy Garden Solutions, an edible landscaping company based in Indianapolis, Indiana. EasyPeasy installs and maintains raised bed vegetable gardens, berry patches, and various other landscaping elements.  Episode-2634- Report from Nine Mile Farm – Why Now is a Time of Opportunity | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:59

While I may frame the show today in regard to the current crisis it is all upbeat and optimistic, and the reason is there is a lot to be optimistic about.  I am going to start with how a 60 readiness plan works, why if you have one you should be in great shape right now. I am going to talk about strategic planing and utilization of things like the the “payroll protection” provision of the CAREs act and building a business right now, yea right now.  Yet I am also going to talk about the hands on things I am doing on my property right now.  Like building more hydroponics systems, more consideration about a micro CSA for my area, expanding my gardening, expanding my aquaculture, plant propagation and more. It may sound in a negative way too opportunistic but the truth is most people, especially those who are prepared can actually come out of the current situation ahead.  I have been asked a lot lately, why I am not more concerned and why I am so optimistic despite all that has gone wrong. The answer is simple, I am and have been prepared for things to go wrong, the reason is less important than the what.  Once you are in that mode, you simply adapt, improvise and overcome.  Those that do generally benefit.  History is full of stories of how tragedy led to fortunes being made, but only the tales of the famous or infamous stand the test of time.  For every such story there are thousands of smaller success stories.  We will never know them, they are lost to time, but you can be one, right now, if you chose. Join Me Today to Discuss… 60 Days of readiness is all most ever need, this time proves that true If you are prepared, you can think, if you can think you can adapt, if you can adapt you can thrive Something was always going to happen, what does not really matter only that, grab that mindset and it all gets easier The world is on sale, here is what I have seen and what I have done I have contacts that dumbed over a million into the Stock Market at 19K I got over 10K off on my Subaru Lease I got over 600 off on my new John Dheere I got over 800 off on a chipper shredder I MIGHT buy my dream truck, sticker is 47K, I have the dealer at 31K and have yet to fill out a form I may borrow 10K and never have to pay it back, many people will do this Mid sized companies can borrow 10 million and not pay it back (not all but some) Millions of people now see value where they never have before, what opportunity does that spell for you Keep in mind one way or another this ends, it always has, so it always will A final thought, two words, life insurance What I am doing at Nine Mile Farm New deep water, aeroponics, kratkyish hydro system – video link New vertical hydro system, for fennel and strawberries, etc. Vertical indoor farm being taken to arugula and spinach production for the summer Planting out all the wicking beds in the aviary and aviary conversion starts next week I have hundreds of plants started for the new garden beds Considering the micro CSA approach yet again, key is to make it easy, fast, simple Final Thoughts – take care of yourself and be optimistic Four Ways to cultivate optimism Think about the future Exercise Give to Charity Check on a Neighbor   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com My Podcast About What a Pandemic Would be Like from 2010 Cracklin’ Rosie – Neil Diamond   Sponsors of the Day Ready Made Resources Knife Kits   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
