Episode-1928- Do People Really Want Freedom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:32:50

TweetMost People Willing Put On Their Own Chains The word freedom has almost been risen to holy status in our society.  You see people absolutely lose their minds if someone say burns a dime store flag that they personally paid for, because, “that flag symbolizes our freedom”, etc. Our nation is touted as “the freest nation in the world” and anyone questioning the claim is shouted down and told nonsense like, “well then move to Somalia”.  I am sorry but a person point out discrepancies and concerns about liberty is not told to just move to Somalia in a society that actually loves freedom. In the end I don’t think the question is so easy to answer.  On the surface, sure everyone yearns to be free, but do they really and how is freedom defined by those answering the question.  We will examine this today and more. Join Me Today to Discuss… First let us acknowledge the places where we do tend to have more freedom Speech The Right to Bare Arms Ability to Build a Business To Practice or Abstain from Religion Now let us define freedom What is pure freedom How do most people actually internally define freedom Understanding the conflict What real freedom means You have no right to anything rightfully acquired by another person No one should ever take away anything from anyone against their will You are solely responsible for your own needs You have no right to interfere with others actions unless they harm another So do you really want freedom? Proof that most people do not want freedom HOAs Legislation of subjective morality The most tyranny happens at low levels of government Massive support for compulsory education Over reaction to every tragedy How people act when you say, “I am not going to vote” Violent defense of the system they claim to hate The absolute rejection of Ron Paul Final thoughts Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1928 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom GenForward.com TSP Gear PermaEthos.com TspAz.com – Support TSP When You Shop Amazon The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys – Waylon and Willie Sponsors of the Day Bob Wells Nursery Safecastle Royal Viking and Weaver Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-1923- Making Homemade Liqueurs and More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:31

TweetI have talked a bit here and there over the years about making home made liqueurs and a few times given out my recipe for Limoncello but I have yet to do a full show on just this subject, today that changes.  I am going to talk about a few different things you can do today when it comes to hand crafting your own higher end alcohol products. These can often be made with simple low priced vodka or grain alcohol (diluted to proper levels), though some require things like rum or brandy.  Today I am going to go beyond that and discuss how you can take things like neutral spirts and turn them into say rum or whiskey or brandy by using essences and or aging on various forms of wood. Why would one wish to do this.  First is saving money.  A bottle of something like Frangelico for instance will sell for 25-30 dollars, but you can make it with essences for about 8-10 a bottle with mid grade Vodka like say Takka.  You can also make it with less sugar, a bit higher in alcohol if you like and we can repete that with many other and even more expensive liqueurs.    How about something similar to Gran Marnier for 10-12 bucks a bottle or less, yes we can do that too. Next think about how valuable this skill would be in a total SHTF break down, anyone can make some “fuel that you drink” but being able to make it into something special well, not just everyone knows how to do that.  I am not one that holds to the total collapse theory but I can see several partial collapse scenarios where this skill has value. How about something to give as gifts to friends.  Rather than show up to that party with a bottle of wine being regifted for the 13th time how about some home made peppermint schnapps made from your own peppermint.  If you do it that way it will be green instead of clear but trust me it will never be regifted. In the end it is just plain fun to do and you can create some really cool stuff and you know that fruit that you over produce that is about to go bad, how about turning it into something amazing that will keep almost forever.  Today we discuss all this and more. Join Me Today to Discuss… What is liquor vs. liqueur What are “alcohol essences” and what are their limits Why would use use essences over say fresh ingredients Where is the best place to get essences Aging on wood, why I prefer oak spirals The main types of syrups for liqueurs Simple Syrup Brown Simple Syrup Caramelized Simple Syrup Creamy Simple Syrup Tangy-Creamy Simple Syrup The basic process of making liqueurs Muddle your fruit/herbs/etc with alcohol or alcohol and syrup Age sufficiently to infuse Strain out ingredients Sweeten if you didn’t use sugar out of the gate Bottle and enjoy The basic process of making liquors or liqueurs with essences Select the essence of your choice Add it to the proper amount of neutral spirit Add any other called for ingredients Either of these can also be wood aged, further spiced etc. How to calculate your approximate alcohol in the final product How to use “Everclear” without it being so “expensive” A few recipes I  have made Orange Brandy (like Gran Marnier or Cointreau) Chamomile Angel Poire William Kaluha Some essences I have tried and enjoyed so far Hazelnut – (source) – Note this one requires SS Liqueur Base B – or liquid glucose Macadamia Nut – (source) Cuban Rum – (source) – Note unlike the others this makes one 750 bottle not three Rye Whiskey – (source) Final thoughts These are for sipping not blowing up your liver Recipes are fine the real fun is making them your own Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1923 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TSP Gear PermaEthos.com TspAz.com – Support TSP When You Shop Amazon The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Homemade Liqueurs and Infused Spirits by Andrew Schloss Mile Hi Distilling – If you buy anything from them please mention [...]

Episode-25- TSP Rewind – The Profitable Small Acre Homestead | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:47:40

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode 1379- The Profitable Small Acre Homestead and originally aired on July 1st, 2014. The notes below are the original notes from that episode. Homesteading is a dream for a lot of people, a some day idea.  Generally it is usually this way.  I need a job, so I need to be close to work, so we can’t afford a  huge place close enough, so ONE DAY I will have enough saved to make the move. This can and does work, but one day has a way of becoming a moving target, a carrot before the horse that keeps the cart moving yet never is tasted for many.  So my view is for some at least, the homestead can at least in time become a significant income source. Join Me Today As I Discuss… Our basic plan and why it might not be right for you Start with eggs, build a customer base Sell other nice items, meal worms, candles, etc. Begin selling plants, cuttings, fertilizers Sell produce as it comes into production Possibly at some point sell poultry What I think you can learn from our plan and how you should build your design Specialize in something that builds a customer base Expand slowly over time Develop DEEP relationships with your customers Let them guide your development What I would look for in a property Close to a reasonable population center Decent internet access Good drive buy traffic No restrictions (unincorporated if possible) Deep soils with pond sites Flat to relatively flat As always it comes down to water, access, structure Thoughts on different revenue elements Paddock shift silvopasture poultry (eggs, meat) Market gardening raised beds of fixed length heavy weed blocking designed to the sun or shade by climate Develop a CSA around it fast Small nurseries Small “orchards” for produce Specialty craft products Bees and bee products Dairy Other stock, cattle, sheep, goats, etc Focus on value added products Some final thoughts It takes time, how much is based on how much you have You can’t do everything so don’t even try to, do one thing then another It isn’t for everyone, that is great! It isn’t easy, but in reality it is simple It is hard to do on your own, a multi family approach has a lot to offer Making a living is better than working for a living Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1379 Join Our Forum 13Skills.com Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TSP Gear PermaEthos.com Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-24- TSP Rewind – You Are Your Only Solution | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:13:19

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-1269- You Are Your Only Solution and originally aired on Dec 13, 2013. The notes below are the original notes from that episode. Day in and day out I get emails from listeners that mean well, but frankly most don’t get it.  They are emails about passing a law for this or that, as if that would really fix anything.  Franky I am at a point where the only laws that need be passed would be a law undoing an existing law. Government and restrictions on liberty are the problems, hence stop looking for solutions from the people causing the problem. Like It Or Not, You Are Your Own Answer! Some sound good, such as, people that want to amend the constitution to say, “Congress shall make now law that “all laws made by Congress applying to citizens of the United States apply equally to members of Congress themselves”. Sure that sounds good but you are saying, please let us ask the wolf and the fox to pass a law that says they can’t raid the hen house.  How likely is that to work? It doesn’t help that this myth is attributed to Warren Buffet who first never said it and secondly shouldn’t be trusted any more then Barack Obama or George Bush, in other words not at all.  The government has created every single major problem it is currently trying to supposedly solve. Let me be blunt you are NEVER EVER NEVER, going to see a world where our government becomes “good” or “smaller” or “less corrupt” unless it simply fails and even that is no guarantee of anything.  Sorry to tell you folks but you are your ONLY solution to any and all real problems that you and your family will face. Join Me Today As We Discuss… Stop worrying about the next disaster and see the one you are in right now Stop being so pissed off about “rounding errors” Why government not only won’t but can’t and never will fix our problems Why you would not government to fix things even if it could The lesson of your destitute, drunken, dope addicted “Uncle Sam” What you must do to thrive in coming years You are your own answer You have to learn from boxers and MMA fighters, train before a fight! But what about community, it isn’t just me is it Take responsibility for your food Take responsibility for your health Take responsibility for your education Take responsibility for your own waste Take responsibility for your own energy Do shit and never apologize for doing good shit! Many American’s have no idea just how Christmas became unique here in America, the role it played in bringing our nation together after two wars of independence and the civil war. Christmas is special and a time to pause and reflect. Christmas is indeed a special time of year, today I will cover many aspects of it that may make this Christmas just a bit more special. There is also a full text transcription on of the non commercial portion of today’s show in the show notes below. Tune in today to hear about… Christmas was banned in England at one time and even parts of America Early Americans didn’t really celebrate Christmas, (congress was in session on Dec 25th, 1789) In the early 1800s Christmas was a rowdy holiday spurred by class conflict, turmoil and unemployment In 1819, best-selling author Washington Irving wrote The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon bringing us many “ancient customs”, he simply invented Leading up to the Civil War, Christmas was a “southern holiday” and Thanksgiving a “northern holiday” How Christmas and Thanksgiving together helped to heal a young America Today is a time to pause, reflect and just be, prepping, planning and stress will all wait patiently for you Different ending music for today’s show! The most beautiful version of Oh Holly Night I have ever heard, just pause, listen and realize what really matters while it plays.
