Episode-61- TSP Rewind – Permaculture Misconception vs. Reality | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-802- Permaculture Misconception vs. Reality and was first published on Dec. 13th 2011.   The following are the original show notes from that episode. The Forest is the Teacher, Not the End Goal – Photo Credit to Axel-D via Flickr I keep quite a few things set up on Google New Alerts.  That is where you run a search for a term on Google News and ask them to send you an email when ever a given word or phrase pops up in the news.  So as you might imagine I do this for terms like “pandemic”, “economic collapse”, “natural disaster” and many others related to the preparedness industry. I also have terms set up that are more on subjects connected to basic self sufficiency and homesteading.   As you might imagine I include the term “permacuture”.  The other day that alert sent me a link to an article called, “Traditional Farming in the Rain Forest”, it led to an article that was a scathing retort on permaculture calling it basically useless. The author gets almost every single part wrong.  It wasn’t that we disagree mind you it was that his claims and assertions were simply 100% inaccurate.  Despite this it  has helped me to better understand many of the objections I hear about permaculture.  Today I plan to discuss them and try to answer some of these objections, hopefully with a now better understanding of what the objection is really all about. Join me today as I discuss… 1 Prime Directive + 3 Ethics = Permaculture Common Objections to Permaculture (none of which are based on reality) The Rain Forest can’t feed as many people per acre as a farm If we don’t do anything and let nature take its course we will starve We need annual crops too not just perennials Permaculture only produces weird things no one eats Permaculture is limited to forest gardening All permaculture amounts to is good organic gardening Permaculture is all about growing food and plants We can’t have productivity with out fertilizer and irrigation We have to till soil to plant modern crop Resources for Today’s Show… Members Support Brigade TSP Gear Shop Join Our Forum Traditional Farming in the Rain Forest – (Misguided article I read today on air) Podcast I did with Paul Wheaton – Lessons From the Forest (Warning Paul’s standards for language are lower then mine on TSP, the f word does get used.)

 Episode-59- TSP Rewind – The Christmas Special 2017 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetMost of today’s show is a recreation of 2008’s Christmas special. Today we pause and take a moment to reflect on Christmas and how it has become the Holiday we celebrate today. Many American’s have no idea just how Christmas became unique here in America, the role it played in bringing our nation together after two wars of independence and the civil war. Christmas is special and a time to pause and reflect. Christmas is indeed a special time of year, today I will cover many aspects of it that may make this Christmas just a bit more special. There is also a full text transcription on of the non commercial portion of today’s show in the show notes below. Tune in today to hear about… Christmas was banned in England at one time and even parts of America Early Americans didn’t really celebrate Christmas, (congress was in session on Dec 25th, 1789) In the early 1800s Christmas was a rowdy holiday spurred by class conflict, turmoil and unemployment In 1819, best-selling author Washington Irving wrote The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon bringing us many “ancient customs”, he simply invented Leading up to the Civil War, Christmas was a “southern holiday” and Thanksgiving a “northern holiday” How Christmas and Thanksgiving together helped to heal a young America Today is a time to pause, reflect and just be, prepping, planning and stress will all wait patiently for you Different ending music for today’s show! The most beautiful version of Oh Holly Night I have ever heard, just pause, listen and realize what really matters while it plays.  Episode-2135- Trapping for Fur and Meat with Aaron Dorr | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetAaron Dorr is a Michigan born native. Growing up in rural northern Michigan has its advantages for a young boy and he spent most of his youth in the woods hunting and otherwise learning about the great outdoors. At 17 he enlisted in the USMC reserve and after his initial year of training returned home to serve out his contract with 6th ESB, start a family, and earn his degree from Northwood University. In recent years his gravitation toward the outdoors has only increased as he has discovered his new addiction to trapping. In June of 2017 he launched Bandit’s Outdoor Supply LLC,  a small start up with a mission to get you into the woods, swamps, and marshes of this great country.  He joins us today to discuss trapping as a skill set, a hobby, a source of income and a source of meat.  Episode-2134- Choosing Excitement and Abundance over Gloom and Doom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet Given this will be the last “Just Jack Show” of 2017 I figured we should end on a positive note.  Preppers are often cast as the doomsday bunker type by many, not just the Hollywood crowd.  I remember not long ago a guy saw one of my TSP T-shirts at a local store, he said, so you are a prepper?  My response was, I sure am. His next question was, “so when do you think its gonna happen”?  I knew what he meant but replied with, “when whats gonna happen”?  He responded with, “you know, it”?  I looked at him like he was crazy, he kinda was and say, “it what”?  Then he let it out, quietly of course looking around to make sure no spies were listening, “the big one, the collapse, when the entire thing crashes to the ground”. I explained that is now what we do, he explained that he had started watching shows about stuff and was very concerned by hadn’t actually done anything about it yet.  I gave him the website address and went on with my day.  Such is the misunderstood life of a modern survivalist.   The reality is the true modern survivalist should be among the happiest and most optimistic people on the planet. Join Me Today to Discuss…. A reminder about Liberty Forum My thoughts on the Bitcoin ceiling and how it will be smashed Why despite how screwed up things are, this is a great time to be alive Just some of the reasons anyone can build resilience today Building a business Knowledge is practically free Almost everything you need is “cheap” There is a community for everything On the other side of things what is your alternative Bitch about problems? A Simple Flood and Drain Bed Made With a 14 Gallon Mixing Tray Right out of the gate “switched” may not be the best word here, but it certainly applies to my growing of annual vegetables. It may have been a better title to have said, “Why I Changed My Mind About Aquaponics. Today I want to take a new look at aquaponics and try to demystify it a bit so that it is a bit more approachable at the small end of the scale to anyone. The reality though is until recently I always looked at aquaponics this way, “what a great thing, for other people to do”. I wasn’t opposed to it, I just had my own ways and well they worked. Well until I moved to this limestone ledge we call a farm. I met a good friend named David and he told me how much food they were producing on their small property and together we designed the systems I now run on my property.  Episode-2130- Cryptocurrency – Understanding the Current State of Affairs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet I have been getting tons of questions on Cryptocurrency and while I know some members of the audience sort of are tuning out on this subject, I ran a poll on our Facebook Group today and this won hands down. Additionally I felt if I did this episode I could condense the subject to a single show for those not overly excited about it and let most other questions on crypto go to our new Expert Council member Ben Fitts of CryptoGulch.  I try hard to not let any one subject dominate the show and our subject matter. This is one though I think you avoid at your own peril, even if you never invest a dime, this is something you need to understand.  Major shifts will come, there will be winners and losers, but crypto and blockchain are not going a way.  The governments and banks are not going to shut them down either, if they could do so they already would have done so. This is the single biggest thing to happen to “money” in the life of any living human being.  And the government can say it isn’t money all they want, anything that is a medium of exchange is money. I also obtained the majority of content for today’s show in a follow up post on the facebook group.  This group is not the TSP official business page, it is a private group you have to ask to join, no one can see what you post as a member unless they are also a member and posts are not sharable beyond the group.  We like it that way.  So if you are not a member this is a good reason to join, ability to influence show content.  You can find the group here, TSP Members Only Facebook Group.
