 Episode-2171- The Hunter Gatherer Homestead | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet So today we will talk a bit about foraging and hunting and where they fit into all this but that is not the main topic.  I am talking hunting and gathering like behavior on your own homestead be it 1000 acres or 1000 square feet. The term hunter/gather is tossed around a lot but we seldom look at the actual lifestyle of such people.  What is it composed of?  We such people do either grow or gather “survival rations” things you can store long term for when times get lean.  But in general they are like omnivorous human grazers. Think about how much game was in North America before it was settled by westerners.  There were 10s of millions of Native peoples living here but they had almost no negative impact on the game.  Why?  They took what they needed as they needed it.  And you know what, they did this more for convenience than for conservation reasons. Think about it, say you own 12 cattle on your land and your land can feed them.  How many are you going to kill at one time if you are only using them to feed your family?  Well one of course, it is less work, that is the biggest reason.  The rest continue to take care of themselves and make more cattle until you need another one.  We will examine this and more today as we take a different look at homesteading. Join Me Today to Discuss… The lifestyle of the hunter gatherer, it ain’t what we’ve been taught on TV How this applies to homesteading Some main crops or foraging in time of plenty Most of the time eating like a grazer Produce vegetables, fruits and proteins Don’t work harder than you have to Only harvest or even create large harvests that make sense Some keys to this lifestyle First it is basic permaculture design Plant in high density Plant in heavy diversity Succession planting Develop some protein source Include perennials Do a little bit every day Automate anything you can Accept seasonal limits Grow what survives or create an environment where it can Do forage/hunt off site Why this method works best for the most people Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 104 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Bullhead Fishing Forum – A new little site I started Biltong For Breakfast Ballad of the Alamo – Marty Robbins Sponsors of the Day Bulk Ammo JM Bullion Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2166- A New Look at Lifestyle Design | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetI got an email today that went like this about how one listener is using permaculture design to not just redesign his property but his life and health.   The abbreviated version is he was taking his “personal time” in the evenings.  That led to drinking too much, not enough time with the family, eating junk food, etc. The solution as always is dramatically simple, he simply started getting up earlier and using the early AM for his personal time.  Instead of junk food his personal time is now full of getting shit done, and that alone time we all need as well.  The evening now are spent with family. This is one of those easy changes that seems hard at first.  Its 0430 you don’t HAVE to get up for two more hours, it seems so hard.  But thanks to our friend circadian rhythm, do it for a few days and it gets easier and easier. Today we look at many such changes and ways we can make our life run better.  Oh and this is a survival topic, the number one killer in America is stress.  Heart disease, cancer, etc. are all made worse by stress, not to mention in the end what destroys families always finds its roots in stress as well. Join Me Today to Discuss… The full email that sparked this show Fifteen simple steps to a better designed life Take a “Fakeation” once a month or at least once a quarter Create lists based on priority, cross things off daily Create some sort of prayer/meditation time in your life Do some things ritualistically (on schedule), it doesn’t matter what Get some sort of a “pure hobby” into your life Maintain circadian rhythm even on days you “sleep in” Cook something totally new and different at least twice a month Strive for “location independence” as a goal Have teachers and students in your life (the best people are both) Journal and go back and read what you wrote Take walks, especially off the pavement but anywhere Spend time with dogs, yes I am serious If something truly makes you unhappy, fix it or dump it Plan some stuff well in advance just to look forward to it Learn to DO something new frequently Final thoughts Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum The Year 101 Walking To Freedom TSP Gear PermaEthos.com TspAz.com – support TSP when you shop on Online Grandaddy’s Gun Club Bullhead Fishing Information TSP Android App TSP iPhone App I Have Found Me a Home – Jimmy Buffett Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-69- TSP Rewind – The World Won’t End but Your World Could | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-1468- The World Won’t End but Your World Could, and was first published on Nov 19th, 2014. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Monday I took a question on “economic collapse” and tried to explain that no that isn’t going to  happen, not the way many think about it anyway.  That the collapse is here, it is on going and it will have both chronic and acute symptoms. In short instead of prepping for TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it) many should be prepping for TEOYWAYKI (the end of your world as you know it) Just Because the World Doesn’t End, Doesn’t Mean Your World Won’t End. As usual when you try to explain this some people feel that means, well, “it isn’t so bad” so do we even need to prep beyond say basic readiness. Also after doing this for so long I often forget that many of the core concepts of modern survivalism might be foreign to even people who have listed (especially selectively) for say two years or even more.  That the ground work I laid in the formative years may never have been heard by many listeners, at all. So today I will combine a bit of the fundamental modern survival thinking with current modern threats and considerations.  I will try to explain the balance between Doomsday Prepper nonsense and all I need is a flash light and some candles thinking.  Humans by and large are binary creatures with an internal binary code of ones and zeros, this is why the political dichotomy is so effective. We literally think in two dimensions.  Safety and danger, democrat or republican, Pepsi or Coke, rich or poor, sick or healthy, alive or dead, etc.  The absolutes are indeed black and white but life is a million shades of gray, today my goal is to bring you out into the spectrum and let you see some of those shades. Join me Today as I Discuss… The disaster probability factor The disaster impact scale The inverse relationship of impact scale and probability How the circles of influence and concern fit into this The six primary needs and a new way to think about them Food Water Shelter Energy Health and Sanitation Security What exactly is a Recession Depression Economic Collapse Currency Default What I consider BASIC common sense preparedness Food for 30-60 days with out complete boredom Ability to deal with initial power loss in 5-10 minutes Power for 14 days with basic needs and comfort Ability to deal with wastes for 30 days if you have to Ability to treat basic injuries and illnesses Ability to keep your home sound in any damage that isn’t catastrophic Water for at least 30 days for all needs, drinking, cooking, bathing, etc. Money to pay all expenses for 90 days with no income without RRA! Security for your home and person’s (ETPP) Equipment Training Procedures Protocols The ability to help neighbors The ability to communicate and get information The ability to move out, survive away from home and get back home A full info and documentation kit Situational Awareness and a Positive Mental Conditioning Basic phyical fitness and reasonable activity A network of friends and contacts you can count on Do that and you are ahead of most of the Doomsday People Don’t think everything is swell just because everything isn’t burning   Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade The Year 1468 Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom JM Bullion – (sponsor of the day) Western Botanicals – (sponsor of the day) Bug Out Planning and Documentation Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2163- John Moody on Modern Homesteading and Steader.com | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

TweetJohn Moody, Co Founder of Steader.com and His Family John Moody and his family farm and homesteads on 35 acres in KY. John  discovered more than a decade ago that his diet was literally killing him with duodenal ulcers, seasonal allergies, and other health problems, so the family began to transition to real local foods and local food distribution. The Moody family helped found the Whole Life Buying Club in 2006. A few years later they purchased an old, run down, cut up farm in the hills of west-central KY and learned that while you can buy a farm the soil isn’t always included! So they’ve spent the last 7 years learning to grow soil and teaching others to do likewise, among other adventures and pursuits. John has been on the show before, mainly to talk about status of farm and food freedom stuff. We will touch on that a bit today but mainly we will talk about the new platform John and some other homesteaders started, steader.com along with John’s personal adventures in Homesteading.  Episode-2162- Can Anyone Be an Entrepreneur – It Depends | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

Tweet I recently got this question and realized at once this was a show topic not a show segment.  It is a complex question and like most such questions the answer is, it depends. Let’s look at some other seemingly simple questions on the topic to start peeling the onion as it were.  How about this?  Is being an entrepreneur hard?  Well it also depends, on many things like.  How large do you want the business to be? What experience do you have?  How gifted are you?  Is this a side hustle or a full time business? Now that should start to paint a picture for you, the answer to “can anyone be an entrepreneur”, is a definite yes with a lot of caveats.  Let’s answer a similar question to see how this works.  How about, can anyone be a basketball player?  The answer is clearly yes isn’t it, there is even wheelchair basketball leagues.  I would say if you can move and use your arms you can be a basketball player. But can anyone be an NBA basketball player?  Can anyone be good enough to play college ball?  Can anyone and everyone make the high school team?  We can easily answer that with no, no and no.  There are only so many spots at that level and talent decides who gets them. But anyone can get some buddies together and start an after work league, if you play basketball you are a “basketball player”, right?  With entrepreneurship there are even more opportunities, there are niches upon niches within other niches.  So the question isn’t can you be an entrepreneur, rather these questions you must answer to determine your path… Do you want to be an entrepreneur? Do you have any specialized knowledge or skills? Do you have or are you willing to create the necessary time? Is there something you are passionate about that you can leverage? If you can’t do what you are passionate about right now, are you willing to do something to simply learn and earn? What sacrifices are required and are you willing to make them? How would you define success in your venture? Does/will your family support you in this effort? How badly do you want it compared to what you will get if you succeed? Are you kidding yourself?  (mental masturbation) Why are you not already doing this? Today I will discuss these questions and ideas and concepts around them.  I will not answer them though for anyone other than myself.  I am not the guy who tells you to stand in front of a mirror and say, “I’m great, I’m wonderful and everybody likes me“.  Rather I attempt to give you a way to examine a path for yourself and determine if it is the right path for you. TweetToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally, Episode-379- How Taxation Enslaves Society, and was first published on Feb 16th, 2010. The following are the original show notes from that episode. Today we discuss taxation from the view of the modern survivalist.  We examine the non partisan truth of taxation, the reality that the only constant in taxes for over 100 years is more taxation which have created more spending.  We now have an unsustainable government and that government has created sustainable poverty. The long term consequences of this system are easy to see, understand and if we are not careful feel overwhelmed by.  I am here today to tell you that you are not controlled by the system, it is you and your fellow American’s that power the system.  Unlike a battery though you control your power, where is focused,  home much is used etc. The reality is we are our own solutions and it is only by first changing ourselves that we can ever hope to change our system.  Tune in today for the horrible truth about taxation and the empowering reality of your ability to control it.
