"Seeking Justice: Abuse, Neglect, Torture and Death in Florida Prisons" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:56:00

"An appalling 346 people died in Florida prisons last year … it is the responsibility of the governor's office to ensure the safety of the state's prisons. But under the leadership of Gov. Scott, conditions have deteriorated." A coalition of 14 human rights groups this past Thursday called for a U.S. Department of Justice investigation into Florida state prisons, contending that "immediate intervention" is necessary to stop the widespread abuse, neglect, torture and deaths of inmates in the Florida Department of Corrections. In a letter to Assistant Attorney General Vanita Guputa, the group cited a list of suspected criminal and civil rights violations against prisoners, including torture and death by starvation, excessive use of force, medical neglect, misuse of solitary confinement, suicide, sexual assault and death and torture by scalding. Attorney Randall C. Berg, Executive Director of the Florida Justice Institute and Author/Whistle Blower George Mallinckrodt, join me Sunday Morning to discuss why this letter was sent and what we need to know about this very important issue.? Longtime Activist, Journalist, Coffee Party Director & Radio Host, Bobby Rodrigo brings you "I Take LIBERTY With My Coffee" on the Coffee Party USA Radio Network every Sunday Morning at 10:00 AM. Advocating engagement Bobby points out the Constitution is the Rule of Law and why it should remain so. Money in Politics, the Political Party Machine, Cannabis Prohibition and partisan blind allegiance is on full display as he advocates against the erosion of Constitutional Protections in the name of corruption & tyranny. "If we focused on following the Constitution we would solve many of the ills of our society.”  Offering guests from Political Organizations, Activism, Media & Artists Bobby invites you to join him Sunday Morning at 10:00 AM on Coffee Party USA Radio.

Politics Done Right - America's media leaves one shouting with no one hearing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:59:00

This week there was a relatively successful debate that occurred between five Democratic Primary candidates. It was a fairly substantive debate. There were two stories out of that debate. One was that it is possible for the most part to discuss real issues that affect Americans. The second is the influence the traditional mainstream media can have in their attempt to influence outcomes. We will discuss that today. What are your thoughts? Let’s  talk. I will also be following our hashtag #PoliticsDoneRight on Twitter @EgbertoWillies. Give me a call, listen to the live stream, or listen to the podcast/vlogcast. We are also broadcasting live on Periscope at handle EgbertoWillies. You can also find previous episodes on YouTube here. Please LIKE our Facebook page and SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel

We will also find out what happens at the Republican National Conference from someone that has personal experience. M4L National Director William Coley joins Isa & Common Cal to share what happens when you ask questions. Have you ever wondered how we, the American people, will get past our polarized viewpoints to just talk with one another about important issues? We interviewed two people who had visions of engaging a lot of people in a more meaningful way to talk about issues they cared about. First, we meet Paul Friedman, a trained facilitator in Sedona, Arizona who was concerned about increasing polarization in his community. So he challenged himself to work with a local group and see how many Living Room Conversations in a single month. The answer is 21. We hear Paul’s story from his initial inspiration to the successful completion of holding the world record for # of Living Room Conversations in a single month. Next we meet Debra Rowe who has dedicated her life to sustainability practices including renewable energy. She worked with Living Room Conversations to adapt the conversation guide to work with college students…both as a credited class and on campus. Learn how she took it to the next level by incorporating civic engagement in the materials.  What is your vision that could use a little Living Room Conversations magic to expand your project? Learn how these folks used an adaptation of Living Room Conversations to reach new people and build community. Wednesday Night 8:30 PM Eastern/5:30 PM Pacific on Coffee Party Radio

"Henry Clay: America’s Greatest Statesman" on "The Tim Danahey Show" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:00

When he first came to Congress, Henry Clay became America’s youngest Speaker of the House and the only freshman. That lead to five decades of public service under ten Presidents when Henry Clay kept the United States whole despite deep divides over slavery, tariffs, national banks, and the annexation of Texas. He worked with some of this country’s most polarizing political leaders including Andrew Jackson, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, John Calhoun, and Daniel Webster. He was Abraham Lincoln’s mentor and Lincoln used Clay’s beliefs to direct the nation through the Civil War. John F. Kennedy listed Clay as one of the five greatest U.S. Senators in history. Still, few Americans know about Henry Clay. Listen to this interesting conversation with Harlow Giles Unger about his new book and hear the lessons today’s political leaders need to learn.  The Tim Danahey Show started in July 2010. The show discusses economics, government, social issues, history, and non-fiction books in a magazine format featuring in-depth conversations with guests. Politics and inflammatory conversations are discouraged as they are divisive and counter-productive. Instead, the show seeks under-reported topics and delves into facts, different perspectives, and ramifications of each perspective. The show does not espouse a political agenda nor does it seek to inflame particular constituencies. The show treats all guests politely and with respect. There is no rambling discourse or personal attacks. This show is one of the highest quality and professional programs available. Tim Danahey’s strength is to take complex subjects, talk with experts, and make them comprehensible and entertaining for average listeners.

Yet again we were witness to another shooting massacre on a college campus in America.  HEALING-THE-HEART-OF-DEMOCRACY | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:59:00

Coffee Party USA is pleased to offer as its September 2015 Book Club selection Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit by Parker Palmer. We encourage everyone to read this very important book and then join us for a special Coffee Party Blogtalkradio conversation with Parker Palmer on Wednesday, September 30 at 8:30 PM Eastern. Healing the Heart of Democracy is an eloquent and empowering call for "We the People" to reclaim our democracy. This timely, courageous and practical work—intensely personal as well as political—is not about them, "those people" in Washington D.C., or in our state capitals, on whom we blame our political problems. It's about us, "We the People," and what we can do in everyday settings like families, neighborhoods, classrooms, congregations and workplaces to resist divide-and-conquer politics and restore a government "of the people, by the people, for the people."  Publishers Weekly, in a Starred Review, said "This beautifully written book deserves a wide audience that will benefit from discussing it." Here at Coffee Party, we want you to have the opportunity to do just that! Click here to buy the book on Amazon and support Coffee Party USA at the same time: Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit. PARKER J. PALMER is a writer, teacher and activist and the founder and senior partner of the Center for Courage & Renewal. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley, as well as eleven honorary doctorates, two Distinguished Achievement Awards from the National Educational Press Association, and an Award of Excellence from the Associated Church Press. So read this wonderful book and join us on Wednesday, September 30 at 8:30 PM Eastern with a conversation with Parker Palmer.
