Episode 160: The Top Ten of 2014 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The Oscars have come and gone... the Deuce nominations (see episode 159) are out and will be awarded in a few weeks... it's time to put to bed the 2014 favorite films, as d$, Mikey and Pinky list the movies of 2014 they enjoyed the most. Joining the guys in the studio is Birmingham filmmaker Jeremy Burgess and music savant and local homeboy Craig McRee. Did you know there were almost 700 official releases to theaters in 2014?  And only a handful made over 200 million at the domestic box office... and in a game of Box Office Mojo, the guys list them out one by one.  Or try to anyway (no, Boyhood didn't even come close) And out of the favorite films ranked in 2014, there are five--the three hosts and two guests--lists given, and ZERO movies made it on all five lists.  The LEGO Movie made three as did Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy... Foxcatcher made four lists... Gone Girl made three... Boyhood only made two... and a bunch of other films like Whiplash, Snowpiercer, Magic in the Moonlight and Birdman pop up randomly. Plus, discussions on the foreign film appeal of The Raid 2.... Margot Robbie becoming Harley Quinn... one of our guests "Storming out"... Keanu impressions... is Foxcatcher in a Fincher style... and what does "Mikey licks The Guest" even mean?  Find out.  And our regular show of reviews returns next week, as you'll hear about The Kingsman: Secret Service, Election, Rocky movies I - V, The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (what the what?), The Equalizer, Lucy, Black and White and... Big Trouble in Little China!!  That's on next week's Reflicktions episode!

Episode 159: The Oscar Prediction Show | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's once again that time for our favorite award show to commence... no, not the BET Source Awards--though with Pinky, that's right on up there... No, it's the Academy Awards, and The Deucecast Movie Show Guys are right here to break down all the categories from Sound Mixing and Sound Editing (what's the difference?!) to why Guardians of the Galaxy might not be a safe pick for the Makeup award. Plus... its the nominations for our 2nd Annual Deucie Awards--nominations for real movie fans... best action movie... best sci-fi... best drama... worst performance (how else could Dumb & Dumber To get two nominations)... and so much more, sprinkled throughout the show.  The guys invite in local filmmaker Jeremy Burgess ("Dead Saturday"--check it out), along with friend of the show Craig McRee, both avid film lovers, to pitch in and help wade through all the movies nominated. Along the way, you'll find out how old Revenge with Kevin Costner is... and Debra Messing's The Wedding Date... how badly Pinky hates The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and loves Superman III... and why Eric Roberts coming to town is a big deal. The guys introduce a new segment called "Stay Seated or Walk Out". Rehash topics on the snubbing of Selma for most awards, Johnny Depp's leading man potential, and then wonder about Michael Keaton's potential for winning Best Actor based on performance... or career (Denzel, anyone?) Category by category nominations are discussed and predictions are made, including an in depth discussion of each of the 8 Best Picture nominees... The Theory of Everything... Selma... the glory of Birdman... the wonder of Keira Knightly in The Imitation Game... J.K. Simmon's intensity in Whiplash... whether American Sniper is overrated... whether The Grand Budapest Hotel is too quirky for it's own good... and, of course, the three hosts and two guests butt heads over a little film called Boyhood. And if you are listeners "Rail Ranger", "Casey Lewis" or "Rick Theule", contact us at to claim your movie passes, as you are winners! You have until March 4th to let us know where you are!! And join us next week as we finally say goodbye to 2014, counting down our 10 favorite from the year.

Episode 158: The RomCom Spectacular | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's the Valentine's Episode of The Deucecast Movie Show, as we set forth to talk about great romantic comedies... and to help us do that, we invite in the biggest ol' softy that we know, Steve Glosson making another appearance from Geek Out Loud.  Episode 157: Our Favorite Disney Characters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Another fine episode of The Deucecast Movie Show, this time with so much magic mixed in!  We'll be talking about our favorite Disney characters of all time, and to do it right, we bring in Steve and Teresa from Disney Vault Talk. In this show, Teresa tells the world of her geek roots... someone says, "You can never have too many Ugnaughts"... Steve does a breakdown of why Bossk's ship was not actually Bossk's ship... all of us throw down on a Disney centered game of Box Office Mojo... and of course, discussions of great Hercules characters... Rhino from Bolt... whether The Rescuers or The Rescuers Down Under are better... multiple Robin Hood mentions... and... Archimedes?!  And somewhere along the way, we get sidetracked with Care Bears, Wuzzles, Popples and Colorforms with the original Smurfs, Mikey bouncing around the room in a sleeping back with his boyhood pals, Steve's Tigger stories, and the fact that Pinky has no idea toys existed before 1994. Plus, is The Nightmare Before Christmas part of the original Disney lineup?  Find out here and why. Next week!  Steve Glosson comes back for one more show as we open our hearts and emotions and talk about our favorite romantic comedies, plus what does Pinky think of the sappy chick flicks he was given to watch?  Find out on Episode 158 next week!

Episode 156 -- The Best Worst January Movies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We might say "Episode 155" in the episode... it is definitely "Episode 156"... so bear with us... What an exciting few weeks coming up on The Deucecast Movie Show!  This week, Mikey, Pinky & d$ invite to the show the awesome Steve and the fantastic Teresa, both from multiple podcasts on Shotglass Digital! You'll find Steve as Emperor Poobah of the Geek Out Loud Universe... the GOLiverse, if you will... as he hosts and co-hosts Geek Out Loud, Mark Out Loud, Rock Out Loud and more, plus he co-hosts Disney Vault Talk with Teresa Delgado, who also co-hosts Fangirls Going Rogue and several others. The whole gang kicks off a game of Ryan Phillippe with the movies of Michael Keaton, Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and... well, more!  A few birthday movies tells us how old "The Falcon & the Snowman" actually is, then we dive into our favorite films released in January... Considered a "dumping ground" for movies, January has actually offered up some great movies over the years, from "The Book of Eli" to "Hard Rain" to... yes, "Beverly Hills Ninja". Some of the other things that get extensive discussion include... The better Hulk?  Bana or Norton... or Bixby?  Scoot McNairy and Steve's obsession with the name...  the return of The Great Tombstone Debate... Teresa's crying emojis... the legacy of Pacino & DeNiro with the later films of both... And, we spend more time on The Spice Girls and "Spice World" than we'd care to admit, but you know you want to listen. Finally... you'll hear the controversial, anger-inducing affair known simply as "The Red Tails Discussion".  Listen at your own peril. Next week... Steve & Teresa join us again as we theme the show to Disney, and our favorite animated characters! Also,  thanks to Clay Shaver of the Remodeling Clay Podcast, at, for assistance with show art.

Episode 155 -- Intermission: Taxi Driver | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

With the Oscar nominations just out, with our own show's awards ("The Deucies") looming, so much is happening, we are taking a step back and prepping for everything to come.  So this week, we take a quick break by giving you a shorter episode, an Intermission discussion on the Robert DeNiro classic Taxi Driver from 1976. Mikey, Pinky & Movie Historian The Honorable Dr. Earl dive into Martin Scorcese's early masterpiece, with DeNiro playing legendary character Travis Bickle as the renegade cabbie.  d$ is out of the studio for this slice of movie history, and Mikey takes the hosting lead this time around. Starring not only DeNiro, but also Jodie Foster (as a teen prostitute!), Albert Brooks (with a huge fro') and even Peter Boyle (waaaay before "Everybody Loves Raymond") makes an appearance as well.  Its the movie that John Hinkley cited as an influence for his assassination of John Lennon, full of violence and 70s film noir... should you see it?  Listen to our discussion and decide for yourself. And next week, two very special guests join us in the studio for a great discussion of January films and the return of Ryan Phillippe!!

Episode 154 -- The Pre-2014 Top Ten Movies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Now that it's 2015, we have to look back over the last year and decide what the best films of the year are.. but since we are still seeing movies released in 2014, we can't give you a full list of the best movies of the year gone by. However... we CAN talk about the movies we saw in 2014 from years previous.  Classics like "The Godfather"... "Halloween"... and "The Last Picture Show"... 80s and 90s flicks like "Adventures in Babysitting"... "Beauty & the Beast" and "Fright Night"...  And recent movies like "American Hustle"... "Crazy Stupid Love"... "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and even a little Sarah Polley sighting in "Go". And what would make Mikey used the term "Reeveassaince" and "Gyllessaince"?  And what's he even talking about? This is our favorite pre-2014 movies that we saw for the first time in 2014! Coming soon... special guests on a special Disney episode... our favorite Romantic Comedies (with a possible special guest!)... and next week, favorite films released in January history...

Episode 153 -- The Winter Movie Golden Globe Preview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

New movies from Channing Tatum... Will Ferrell... one of the Hemsworth Brothers... Disney's live action Cinderella and more are all discussed, as we count down our Top Five most anticipated movies of the next three months... you know, like Taken 3 or Tak3n, if you will. Next, we cover the upcoming Golden Globe awards, making our best guesses on Best Drama, Best Comedy, acting awards, directing awards, music, screenplay and more. In this entire episode, we do bad impersonations of Stephen Hawking, try to stumble through five foreign film titles, declare our love for Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and try and figure out who will win awards based on previous nominations and being "due for a win". And next week, join us for our favorite pre-2014 movies we watched in 2014.

Episode 152 -- The Battle of the Five ReFlicktions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Happy New Year!  Hope your Christmas was wonderful, and what better way to end your holiday season than to check our review show, also called "ReFlicktions", as we ReFlickt on the films we've watched in the last few weeks. It's December, so our movie watching slowed down considerably, but we spend a little more time both on older favorites and current blockbusters...  in this episode, we cover... Wet Hot American Summer... two of us love this movie, one of us just doesn't get it... Happy Christmas... we call out Anna Kendrick again to come on our show Varsity Blues... Pinky is introduced to the James Van der Beek classic, and whipped cream. The Theory of Everything... stick around for my incredibly authentic Steven Hawking impersonation and for Mikey's surprise at what he himself thinks about the movie. Horrible Bosses 2... we see it so you don't have to. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2: Live Die Repeat: Mockingjay"... it's the one film that I was able to watch, and I'll tell you how good it is. Exodus: Gods & Kings"... Mikey uses three phrases for this film--"Ridiculous", "Excessodus" and "Random Casting", and then Pinky shares his love for the movie. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: Live Die Repeat... In a reversal of roles, Pinky expresses his displeasure for this epic, while Mikey actually is decently satisfied.  Oh, and somehow, we relate Evangeline Lilly to Alec Baldwin.  Somehow. Wild... Mikey tells us of Reese Witherspoon's epic turn that might make her an two time Oscar winner. Then, all three of us give our favorite films (so far) of 2014, plus our movie assignments which include the classic Dark Crystal, the immortal Vince Vaughn/Travolta epic Domestic Disturbance and the indie film In Your Eyes. And next week, its the winter movie preview!  Join us as we let you know what's upcoming this January, February and March... pay attention and you'll know what movies you'll want to see, and what to avoid! -- d$

Episode 151 -- Merry Deuce Christmas!!! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's Christmas time, Christmas time is here!  Unfortunately, no time for a Christmas vacation... however, you can sit back for a spell and listen to your favorite movie dudes discuss their (and your) favorite Christmas films! First, we let you know what movies are celebrating their milestone birthdays this month... you won't believe how old "Dumb & Dumber" and "Beverly Hills Cop" are.  And find out what legendary film franchise got it's first film released this month in 1979. "It's a Wonderful Life"... "Scrooged"... and "White Christmas".  Dave and Pinky give major love to "A Christmas Story", while Mikey gives major hate to it--he's a known Ralphie Hater, by the way. Plus, proper attention is shown to the underrated "Four Christmases", Mikey gushes about "Ernest Saves Christmas" and Pinky goes crazy for "Jingle All the Way"... and of course, Dave still loves the ABC TV movie "The Night They Saved Christmas". And find out what they chose back in 2011, during the first list of Christmas favorites as revealed in "The Deucecast Episode XXXVII: A Very Wookiee Christmas." The payoff on the horrid Christmas movies that were assigned a few episodes ago is in this episode.  Hear the reviews on such holiday masterpieces as "Elf Bowling the Movie: The Great North Pole Elf Strike"... "Bratz Babies Save Christmas"... "The Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger"... and the coup de gras, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians".  Whew.  Finally, everyone's favorite movie show segment, Pretty in Pink.  Will the Alec Baldwin/Kevin Spacey/Al Pacino David Mamet directed epic "Glengarry Glen Ross" get top honors?  Or be in the "hated it" column"?  Find out tonight. Then, a great discussion on the Sony hack and the fervor over "The Interview" cancellation is broken up by... well, as Pinky will put it, some very sensitive mics and some wind.  It's a first for The Deucecast Movie Show and proof that life happens anytime and anywhere. Next week!  Our ReFlicktions Show for December is a bit shorter, but still we spend much time on "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"... "The Theory of Everything"... "Exodus Gods & Kings" and several more recent flicks.  And coming up soon, our Winter Movie Preview, and our Top Ten Not-2014 Films of 2014!

 Episode 147 -- Happy DeuceGiving! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Oh, but Peter Jackson did... he definitely did. It's an annual tradition, when we at The Deucecast Movie Picture Show, give thanks for the things in the movies that we love, appreciation for theaters we enjoy, actors we cheer for and trends we follow... and by "annual tradition", we mean we did it a few years ago and wanted to do it again... an annual tradition is born... again... we call it DeuceGiving!! We are honored, first, as Shaz and Jedi Shua from The TechnoRetro Dads podcast calls in and enjoys an easy round of Simple Star Wars Trivia, a game that we hadn't played in quite a while, but Mikey was excited to get another crack at, while P!nky did it for the first time.  So, if nothing else, Shaz & Shua make this episode worth it! Then, we tell the world what we are truly thankful for in the movie universe, everything from Marvel movies to Amy Adams (who d$ is in love with) to the finality of Hobbit movies... its a celebration of appreciation for theatrical awesomeness.  A new way to assign movies just for this Christmas time, as we draw out of a hat the titles of the 6 worst Christmas movies we could find on Netflix... find out who is forced to see Santa Claus vs The Martians and who will be forced to watch some randomness subtitled Danger in the Manger.   And that might be the cream of the crop... Finally, a rousing discussion of Hollywood awards, and whether we feel that "message movies" with perhaps decent performances is more highly regarded than a "original film" with great performances... and be surprised by the trends over the last few years, especially in Best Actress.  Join us next week as well when we do our monthly ReFlicktions, covering everything from "Birdman" to "Interstellar" to "Big Hero 6" to the problem with Ice Cube in "Ride Along"--and find out what Pinky truly thought about his latest Pretty in Pink assignment...

On a somewhat different note, we take you back to the show's appearance at The Alabama Phoenix Festival in May of 2014, where The Deucecast Movie Show co-host Dave is joined by local comic book show owner and Marvel of a man in his own right, Stan Daniel, as they spend and hour discussing Star Wars, Disney and the mash-up of the two. Dave and Stan discuss various topics about what it means for the future of Star Wars since Disney has purchased the property... the possibility of a 5th theme park... Star Wars Weekends... dining with Darth Vader... the memories of the speederbike in Hollywood Studios... and so much more. There are also questions to be fielded on everything from "Will Leia be a real Disney princess?" to "What does the merchandising look like?" and yes, we also dive into a Harry Potter comparison. Plus, predictions for the future of the Disney/Star Wars partnership (since this episode was recorded six months ago, you'll hear a few misses... and several predictions that were dead on!)  Mikey and Pinky are there too, jumping in with their own conversations, questions and thoughts, and are joined by various Friend of the Show voices of Hurricane Rhett and our buddy Wookiee. Sure, this episode isn't directly about movies, but it is a one hour geekfest on two things that the guys on the show love. Coming next week... our annual DeuceGiving Episode, as we give you what we are thankful for in the movie world!   Download and listen to Ep 146 coming next week!
