The Deucecast Movie Show strives to be an escape and the guys do their best this week to shut out the world for an hour and give you some movie chatter... and this time, it's all about being surprised, delighted, or in some cases, both. Movies that were thought to be a little silly, or movies approached with apprehension because "Surely, this movie can't be any good?" and yet, IT WAS! First up, some January Birthday Movies, giving you the five, ten, twenty more year anniversaries of films you've heard of... and some you haven't. Cause that The Way Back ain't got no Affleck in it. A little round of January Movie Rotten Tomatoes, with a Christian Slater triple play, and then the top five... the films that Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl watched and were happy to report were actually pretty good. It's a fun episode, revisiting the good times in front of a screen of some sort... and the kickoff to the annual Year End Best Episodes!
The new year is here and it closes a Christmas holiday season... and in the interim, the Deucecast Movie Show crew saw a lot of movies. A lot of movies. Like, a lot a lot. Jumping right in, ReFlicktions kicks off with the heaviest film of the night, "Promising Young Woman", and the tour de force performance of Carey Mulligan... then onto Mikey's Bruce Willisathon (not to be confused with the Nic Cageathon or Toyotathon)... Dr Earl's run of classic Christmas films... d$'s list of good and bad documentaries... Alabama stereotypes... seeing WW84 in theaters vs on the small screen... Pixar's latest... Chadwick Boseman's final performance... Tom Hanks pulling double duty... And the final Top Five list for 2020... Movies discussed: Promising Young Woman (in theaters & on demand)... Motherless Brooklyn (HBO Max)... Between Two Ferns: The Movie (Netflix)... Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (HBO Max)... Crossfire Christmas (Netflix)... Game Changers (Amazon Prime)... Godmothered! (Disney+)... The Postcard Killings (Amazon Prime)... Christmas Chronicles 2 (Netflix)... Run (Hulu)... Remember the Night (1940, Watch TCM)... Greenland (on demand)... Klaus (Netflix)... The Stand at Paxton County (Netflix)... Alabama Snake (HBO Max)... You Cannot Kill David Arquette (Hulu)... The Cheaters (1945, Watch TCM)... Holiday Affair (1949, Watch TCM)... Christmas in Connecticut (1945, Watch TCM)... Boiler Room (HBO Max)... The Midnight Sky (Netflix)... Death to 2020 (Netflix)... Tesla (Hulu)... SOUL (Disney+)... For the 5th year in a row, the final episode of the year for The Deucecast Movie Show is the Lumps of Coal episode... the movies that... well, weren't the best or the favorites of Mikey, Dave, or #TwitterlessDrEarl. A top five of films -- or in some cases, production teams or Hollywood battles -- that didn't come anywhere near the crew's favorite films seen in 2020. Including Vin's lack of range... a Scott Baio film that would never pass in this century... another Disney franchise failure... Nic Cage's lack of karate skills... John Turturro's lack of bowling scenes... and much more. Plus, a quick discussion on the CBS Mini-Series The Stand and a few words about Wonder Woman 1984
If you listen to the episode, you may recognize the opening theme, the best time of the year, when the Deucecast Movie Show plays the official Christmas theme of the show. It truly is a Marshmallow World. Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl are here once again to give out their annual Christmas gifts to the stars, and joining the show for the first time in the Christmas season, it's Spawn of Ryfun, Lil G himself Garrison Ryfun. First up, Birthday movies, with everything from Popeye to a previous Star War edition, then Garrison gives a little Christmas episode history of the Deucecast Movie Show (he has notes!) Then the guys begin to give out the gifts! Chris Nolan has a present to open. The tiny town of New Albanwick has a gift. AMC will get something under the tree. And for the first time, someone in the group gives their gifts to the others during the Top Five itself.
We watch a lot of movies, new and old. We have fun talking about what we like (and don't like) about them. We're part of the RetroZap podcast network.
