 Episode 327 DIMI ANGÉLIS | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4755

When considering his status as beloved and respected member of the contemporary Amsterdam techno scene, it’s sometimes easy to forget Dimi Angélis was among the founding members of the very culture that helped shape it. Promoting illegal raves and warehouse parties and putting his first needle on a record back when “underground” was still a defineable term, Dimi now holds well over a decade of international DJ-ing experience. It shouldn’t come as a suprise then that this is directly reflected by his record collection, musical knowledge and technical ability which all easily match and in most cases surpass that of many. Such an extensive frame of reference enables Dimi to look at “techno” through a unique and highly personal lense. Well aware of the genre’s fluid boundaries, ever-changing trends and the impact of continually developing technology, Dimi is able to elegantly step outside of the pre-determined fabric and in a sense mold its essential elements into something that feels familiar but upon more careful observation, or rather listening, is actually quite special. Putting personality and outspoken taste first, his DJ-sets are always remarkable and at no point predictable, more so because he does not believe in easy pleasing. Strongly opinionated and unafraid to speak on his thoughts, the records and flow incorporated in a Dimi Angélis set are equally straightforward and honest. What you see is in Dimi’s case really what you get, but it always comes wrapped in something appropriately unexpected. In 2003 he joined forces with good friend Jeroen Search and together they have since launched multiple successful projects including outstanding live-acts “Counterpart” and “Dimi Angélis and Jeroen Search” as well as their own newly founded vinyl-only imprint, “A&S”. Under the first mentioned guise of Counterpart they are responsible for lauded EP’s such as “Ion” 01 and 02 on the sub-label of Rachmad’s Scorp of the same name, “Oxygenating” and “The Next Level” on Audiosculpture and “The Martian Mystique” on Jeff Mills’s Mission (6277/Axis). More recently they have put out characteristic, quality techno on their own A&S, Balans, Stockholm LTD, Smallville, Figure SPC and Traut as simply Dimi Angélis and Jeroen Search. Dimi’s list of played clubs and festivals is nothing short of respectably long and includes Awakenings, Kozzmozz, Tresor, Rex, Berghain, Doornroosje, Paradiso, Dekmantel, Welcome to the Future, Free Your Mind, Rockit, Mysteryland, Club One, Stubnitz and even the late Innercity. Clearly deeming this list to be far from long enough however, Dimi’s set on doing in the future what he’s always done and still does best; play great techno, make you move your feet until they’re sore and give you a little something to smilingly contemplate when you’re back home.  Episode 324 REGGY VAN OERS | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3530

Deep minimal techno with a mysterious effect invading the ear with a dimensional movement that comes in and out. I love how this track makes me feel like I am in a cave seeing a ritualistic ceremony of the ages. Its funky almost alien baseline stays solid making a fresh arrangement of effects beat rhythmically combine. The sound is almost melodic to the point you feel your being abducted by sound. You have to listen to it more then once to catch everything that is being composed for you. A true minimal classic. Review of Cytric Reggy Van Oers has definately found a sound that fits the world of minimal techno. His ability to create a 3 dimensional environment in his tracks makes his sound unique and also very catchy. I love the experimental nature of his techno style. It combines the progressive appeal of trance but keeps it funky and deep. It rolls off your body and stays ever changing. This track is deep deep deep. Review of Metza After his First release “Metza”on Trapez Ltd (sublabel Traumschallplatten) in 2007 he got great feedbacks from out the globe. Soon after his debut EP he released “Matar”on Field Records that was licensed to Manual Music. His Sabre EP was released by Germany’s label Affin. Real Desert Fish and Boldarani followed. On Tongut Records the Myst EP appeared as a solid 3-tracker, less melody but arranged with dark vocals and stirry atmospheres. His music is focussing on deep evolving grooves, swirling almost hypnotic melodic elements en all tackled by a steady beat. Live act and dj sets!!! Tracklist 1. Reggy van Oers - Sinuosity (Affin) 2.  Episode 319 JUSTIN SCHUMACHER | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4426

One of the most promising up-and-comers in the burgeoning NYC club scene today, Justin Schumacher’s history mirrors that of electronic music itself. Just as the Detroit progenitors of techno crafted their sound on the back of early hip-hop, Justin honed his studio chops writing downtempo beats under the moniker Logik Proof, dropping underground hits with prolific MCs like Reason Kills and I Am Many. Like many of the scene’s best producers, he was not content to simply dabble with one style and soon after took his studio output to the highly-competitive techno and house genres with a vengeance. Having already established a reputation as a fierce techno soldier on the decks at various club nights in NYC including the prestigious Sullivan Room, Schumacher struck up a close friendship with Agent Orange of Gotham Grooves, resulting in his very first funk-tinged tech-house productions. Understanding the close relationship that all expert producers acknowledge between techno and house, he began a relationship with NYC house don Kenny Summit to launch the Good For You Records imprint, expanding his knowledge and horizons with the “Goddam Kids” collaboration with Summit. Goddam Kids was an opportunity to express a classic driving house sound to round out the tough edges of his current tech-focused staple of work for labels such as Mile End Records, Sonido Locales, B-Perfect, and Assimilation Recordings. Tracks by Goddam Kids have been receiving support from some of the most prestigious names in the house industry, including Brett Johnson, Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, and Scott Wozniak. Meanwhile, Schumacher took to preaching the techno gospel on the decks up and down the East Coast, with a few stops in the mecca of techno Detroit to boot. One of the more frenetic gigs in North Carolina resulted in a connection with fellow NYC techno mavens Justin Kase and Owen Sands approaching the fast-rising techno talent for a release on their new imprint Ill Bomb Records. The result was the ominous, driving Gate EP, which included a remix by Droid veteran David Flores (aka Truncate) under his Audio Injection alias. This warehouse-style rework which employed much of Justin’s original sound design was hammered in every set during the 2012 summer festival season by German techno legend Chris Liebing, causing the record to go nuclear and smash the Beatport Techno Top 100. To date, it is still the top-selling Audio Injection track on that site. Not content to rest on the massive success of this release, Schumacher followed with a flurry of remixes and productions on labels such as Frakture Audio, Kynatix, Teggno, and 069 Techno. The eerie warehouse stomper “Dumbwaiter” on the Teggno imprint became a staple in Audio Injection sets, appearing in several podcasts and was even dropped at the peak of his Tresor NYE set to floor-frenzied effect. This success in the studio was supplanted by high profile gigs opening for Alex Bau, Audio Injection, Black Asteroid, Pan-Pot, Joey Beltram, Abe Duque, Beroshima and one of Schumacher’s personal heroes A.Paul. The Portuguese techno master later commissioned Justin for a remix of his track “Surrender” on his own well-established Naked Lunch Records label, which resulted in what is arguably the young producer’s finest work to date. Justin Schumacher’s production work remains thought-provoking and intelligent, employing complex fills and mind-boggling programming with exceptional sonic construction while still remaining floor-focused and energetic. Channeling the complexity and vibrancy of the Big Apple itself into his music and DJ sets, he remains by far one of the most exciting names to those with impeccable taste in quality techno and house music. To summarize, we’ll use the words of another NYC legend; “If you don’t know, now you know.” BEATPORT PAGE: http://www.beatport.com/artist/justin-schumacher/26640 SOUNDCLOUD PAGE: https://soundcloud.com/justinschumacher Tracklist 01. With the passing of time he has begun to dedicate himself as much as possible to productions using synth and drum machine. Now he has begun his new venture as owner/manager of his label FU.ME where he will focus his work on promoting new and old sounds -without forgetting his roots- offering “bad and dirty”sounds .  Episode 315 SASCHA RYDELL | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7292

Sascha Rydell is one third of the Fachwerk triumvirate that is leading the way in stripped, funky, dancefloor focussed techno. The stuff is in his bones, frankly, and that shines through in his own idiosyncratic tracks and EP's, as does his ear for an unfamiliar hook, ability to craft a devastating bassline or most inviting groove. 1996 was when he began DJing, and since then years of experience have only fomented his ability to thread a compelling electronic soundtrack to anyone who will listen. Born and raised in Berlin, growing up alongside clubs like WMF, Tresor and E-Werk and people like Mike Dehnert and Roman Lindau, Rydell has techno in his bones. But so too hip-hop, soul, funk, house and jazz – all of which are things that inform his sketchy, loopy, heavy techno sounds on the label he runs with Mike and Roman, namely Fachwerk. Charged with representing the imprint for a Resident Advisor label of the month mix in January 2011, Rydell deftly journeyed across a wide range of Fachwerks’s output – both released and unreleased – with devastating effects. “Every piece I produce has my soul in it” states Sascha. “It all expresses the experiences that I have gained over the past 10 to 20 years.” Some of the most notable achievements in that time of music making include playing legendary places like Berghain and European hotspots like Trouw, as well as releasing a number of well received EPs on Fachwerk (Serrage, Marmonner, Mouvoir, Propose EP and more) which picked up healthy support from many Artists worldwide. “It’s fantastic to see how music can people make happy in a global way, it’s like an universal language and it works over all the world” says self-confessed vinyl junkie Sascha of his trade; a trade he has been perfecting for two decades and since long before Berlin came the fashionable hotspot it is now. Forging important friendships in that time – ones that continue to stand him and his label in good stead today - Sascha has plans for a full length album as well as for more singles and EPS on other labels, all things which will surely only firm up his position as a nu-school leader.
