Podcast #115: Happy Holidays & Jam at the Dam | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:37

Happy Holidays The second half of 2013 didn't turn out as expected. During the last published episode of the show, I mentioned that we'd be taking a two month "summer break". Well, as it often does, life got in the way of the podcast and we ended up taking nearly a six month hiatus instead. But never fear, Around the Wood Stove will return in January 2014 with regularly scheduled episodes and feature interviews. In the meantime, all of us at the Wood Stove House would like to wish you and yours a happy and safe holiday season! And a healthy and happy New Year as well. See you in 2014. Jam at the Dam Sam Campbell from Gigspots.com is a Lancaster creative to keep your eye on in 2014 and beyond. He is a genuine live music fanatic and the Gigspots website is dedicated to connecting bands, fans, and venues. Sam works tirelessly to make great live music events a reality and is currently working with Rich Ruoff to bring us the Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival of Music coming to Lancaster on February 21 and 22, 2014. The festival will feature two days of live music on 9 stages across Lancaster City. You’ll be hearing a lot more about the festival on upcoming episodes of Around the Wood Stove. On July 6, 2013 Sam Campbell was "making it happen" at Jam at the Dam, a one day music festival in Weatherly PA a couple hours north of Lancaster. Sam sponsored the Gigspots stage where we spent the day partying in the sun, enjoying a gorgeous sunset, and listening to dozens of awesome bands from around the region. I had the pleasure of hanging out and interviewing several of those bands but haven't had the chance to share the audio we captured until now. I hope this trip down memory lane is a good one and reminds you all of fun in the summer sun during this holiday season when the days are at their shortest and the temperature rarely rises above 30 degrees! Each episode was directed by different Lancaster area filmmakers and included different cast members.  Podcast #110: The Ouro Bros. and Skirtin’ the Curtain with Joanna Underhill | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:11

Jeff Burkholder and Jeremy Bentley are the creators of The Ouro Bros. and the Neverending Tour, a zany weekly webcomic about two musician brothers who are living on the road chasing their dreams in the independent music world. Every week a new strip is published online at OuroBros.com that chronicles the adventures of Stan and Balthazar Ouro, along with a host of other fun characters that the brothers met as they have zig-zagged across the country navigating the unpredictable waters of the independent music world. Since its inception over three years ago the webcomic has been essentially telling an origin story of how Stan and Balthazar have expanded their band from a duo to a four-piece rock 'n roll powerhouse that includes bassist Elle (formerly of Elle's Bells) and keytarist Chester. This expansion has happened organically over time in the midst of many adventures and antics. Jeff and Jeremy are ready to take the comic to a new level. They launched a Kickstarter campaign to help publish the first Ouro Bros. book. The idea is to compile the entire origin story into a single printed volume, including all weekly strips published to date. Learn how you can contribute to the Kickstarter campaign here and follow the adventures of Stan and Balthazar Ouro at OuroBros.com. Over the past several years, The Pig Merchants have slowly and steadily built momentum in the local Lancaster music scene. During that time the band’s live show has changed dramatically from 5 guys simply playing the same songs to a unified musical force that brings an incredible amount of energy and passion to their live performances.  Podcast #103: Corty Byron and it’s Mickel Time | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:01

Corty Byron is a Lancaster-based songwriter and musician who recently spent a year and a half living in Venice Beach, California on somewhat of a personal creative retreat. Without a solid plan, Corty and his girlfriend spent a couple months traveling all around the U.S. on their journey from Lancaster to Venice. Corty picked up gigs as they traveled and managed to play shows all along the way. While in California, far removed from the musical foundation he had built here in Central PA as both a solo musician and as the frontman for Green Onions, Corty was free to explore some very new musical territory and he managed to capture quite a bit of it on self-recorded demos, some of which we’ll sample on today’s program. He also found a new perspective on his hometown of Lancaster, something that can be difficult to find unless you spend time elsewhere. Connect with Corty on his website, Facebook, and Twitter.
