As an avid trekker, I am always on the lookout for new and exciting trails to explore. Recently, I had the opportunity to embark on the Makalu Base Camp Trek in Nepal, and it was an experience that I will never forget. This trek is not for the faint-hearted, but for those who are willing to push themselves and discover the untouched beauty of the Himalayas. In this article, I will share with you my experience of the Makalu Base Camp Trek, including the itinerary, the best time to go, what to expect, and essential tips to ensure a successful journey.

For adventure seekers heading to the Everest region in Nepal, the journey from Kathmandu to Lukla can be quite challenging. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is notorious for being one of the most dangerous and unpredictable flights in the world, with a high risk of flight cancellations and delays due to weather conditions. The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour departs from the domestic terminal at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The plane circles the valley before landing in Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest. The Expedition: The Ama Dablam expedition is typically a 30-day expedition in the Everest region of Nepal. About 16 days are required to conquer the three high camps set above the base camp and the summit. Other days are spent trekking through the scenic Khumbu valley below Tengboche. The expedition starts with a scenic flight to Lukla, from where, following the Everest base camp trail, we hike up to Tengboche. From Tengboche, leaving the Everest base camp trail we head towards the Ama Dablam base camp.

The Manaslu Expedition: This expedition in total is a 48-day expedition, in which 24 days are set aside as a climbing period. The expedition starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Arughat (606m). In just 11 days the elevation gradually rises to 4,750m (the Manaslu base camp). Starting in the village of Arughat,  the trekking route passes through beautiful villages, terrace farms, narrow gorges, rhododendron forest, and local pastures, and enters into the Tibetan-influenced higher alpine country. The base camp is set at the lateral moraine of the Manaslu Glacier. Manaslu can be approached from many routes; however, we will be using the standard route (up the Northeast face), the route used by the Japanese expedition team in 1956. 3 high camps: C1 (5,500m), C2 (6,300M) and C3 (7,300m) will be set above the base camp.
