Casting Off

Summary: After ten years since their last podcast, Liz and Jamie are back with banter from the cockpit! followtheboat is one of the oldest and biggest personal sailing blogs, documenting the adventures of Jamie, Liz and Millie the Cat aboard their boat, s/y Esper. They have a growing youtube channel with 60,000 subscribers, but their foray into audio/visual content started with their podcasts. These audio delights covered their passage from Turkey to India, taking in Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan, Yemen and Oman. These were treacherous waters, not least because the passage was made when piracy was at its most dangerous. Listen to pirate attacks, VHF radio broadcasts, interviews with characters, cultural affairs, fair winds and ocean crossings.  We are taking a break | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:11

[S03E20] This is the last podcast for a while because we have a lot of miles ahead of us. We are sailing to a deadline (our visas will run out end July) so we will have few opportunities to relax or get on with editing over the next two months. So, to ease our workload, we are putting the podcasts on hold. We hope to get the weekly vlogs out and published, but it will depend on our progress and connectivity as we travel these remote parts of Sulawesi.  The Highs and Lows of Sailing and Boat Ownership | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:23

[S03E19] “The happiness and highs of boat ownership and cruising do outweigh the unpleasant lows. But do the highs happen often enough to offset what feels like the many more lows, and do they make up for being away from friends, family and all life on land has to offer?” Shamus, followtheboat viewer Can you guess what was almost everyone’s low? “The sea calls to you or it doesn’t. Sailing beckons you. If you don’t love it, you’ll be miserable. If you do, you won’t trade it for anything.” Steve Tyner, followtheboat viewer Episodes referred to in this chat: Ep 303 – Boat repairs (in paradise) Ep 304 – The Most Dangerous Current We’ve Sailed Through 5 Reasons NOT to Buy a Sailboat If you’d like us to answer a question or read out YOUR story, send us a tweet to @followtheboat on Twitter to get our attention.  Is it the journey or the destination? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:10

[S03E18] “Life is about the journey, not the destination” is what we are always being told. But is it? Is the destination just as important?  This is NOT a podcast… | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:48

[S03E11] We’re leaving our gorgeous atoll on Borneo, and it’s going to take three days to get from our current anchorage to Toli-Toli, the first destination on Sulawesi. We’ll be at sea and uncontactable for much of this time, so we thought we’d better explain our absence in this little podcast… But, this is NOT a podcast… Well, it is and it isn’t. It’s a quick chat where we blather on about the work it takes to create our videos. Sometimes, though, life just gets in the way. Sipadan! The episode that took Jamie a week to edit! This is a break from our usual 40-minute video podcasts, but we expect to be back again next week chuntering on about anything that comes into our heads.
