Dark Nights: Metal | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:22:14

Dark Nights: Metal #1 (2017) This week, we dabble in the current crop of books that are just as dumb as the ones from year’s past. Why does everything - literally EVERYTHING - have to revolve around the fact that Thomas and Martha Wayne had sex. If Bruce wasn’t born, nothing would ever happen in the DCU. Its true…you know it. Also, we talk about Shawn’s trip to some Buffalo, NY comic book stores and how the Flight Into Fantasy bookstore in Kaisertown was ruined by the NHL. Oh, and if you’re a sentient hot tub and you want to fight us, you know here to find us. Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  X-Factor in the 80s | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:46:13

X-Factor #30 (1988) Despite the Walt Simonson art, this X-Factor book fails to impress. However, we do have Beast in his “ode to the 1984 San Diego Padres” outfit and Iceman wearing his Asgardian championship belt so not all is lost. Plus, Thomas Haden Church makes an appearance and then promptly explodes (probably from all that star power) and a sentient ship makes chili burgers and it is gross. Shawn and Jen also review the film QUARTER BIN which is an Amazon Prime indie centered around varied relationships of folks that work at a comic book store in Cleveland. Also, the lead has some serious Wayne Static hair (RIP) Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  Sovereign Seven | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:03

Sovereign Seven #17 (1996) Well…this was a weird one. Not weird in a good way but weird in a confusing way. Sovereign Seven is the Polyphonic Spree of comic book teams, playing host to what seems to be 30,000 active members. There’s some weird slavery/manipulation stuff going on and the main heroine is named after dishwashing liquid.  Jen did some drinking in this episode. We end up talking about the season premiere of GOTHAM and how Jim Gordon is murdering everyone. There’s also this whole thing about the Black-Eyed Peas comic that Marvel put out that neither of us will probably get around to reading but damn, it looks good.  Captain America & Nomad | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:10:24

Captain America #325 (1987) Cap is BACK! Not sure why he keeps showing up on the show but this issue where him and Nomad beat up on a morbidly obese drug lord was too hard to pass up. We also learn that Cap packs sandwiches before heading out on a nautical mission and that Nomad once had a raging Tom Selleck mustache. All this plus we discuss the impressive, mammoth collection that this book came from as well as independent video rental store memories from the late 80s.  Hawkman and the JSA | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:09:44

Hawkman [vol 4] #23 (2004) We actually get around to a book in the new millennium this week with HAWKMAN in the JSA / Black Reign crossover. This one, though, is one of those stop-gap issues that exists to show what wackiness the JSA can get into when they go civilian. For some reason, Hawkman and Hawkgirl live in faux New Orleans and decided to have the JSA come down for Hawkman’s, I guess, birthday? Why does he even have a birthday here on earth? SPACE ALIENS CAN'T HAVE BIRTHDAYS! Anyways, Wildcat does his best “Bender as a human impression.” Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  Cable | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:38

Cable #11 (1994) Its back to the 90s we go as Shawn and Jen delve in an X-Books offshoot with CABLE. Join us as Cable uses his nebulous and infinite powers to fend off Magneto’s Acolytes because their snow base just happens to be made of the same body meat-like metal substance that he is made of. Also, there is this brother duo on the Acolytes that job so hard to Cable that they make the Mulkey Brothers look like the Road Warriors (….nailed it…) Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  Tales Of Evil | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:55

Tales of Evil #3 (1975) We go back to the Atlas/Seaboard catalog this week as we are introduced to the Man-Monster, a dude who turns into a Hulk / fish being when doused with hot water. His character trajectory perplexingly mirrors that of Zac Efron’s character in the 2017 BAYWATCH remake. Seriously, go watch that then listen to us or reverse that order. Either way, you are destined to experience something dumb. Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  Lois Lane's 2nd Superman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:07

Superman’s Girlfriend, Lois Lane #132 (1973) In this charming comic, two lovesick psychopaths devise a way for an up-and-coming scientist to get lethally entwined in their implausible, perilous relationship. I mean, this dude gets straight up KIDNAPPED so that Superman can attempt “make Lois happy.” Its not healthy… We also talk about comic book video games!  Skrull Kill Krew | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:46:37

Skrull Kill Krew #2 (1995) In this dumb ham of a book, a bunch of gnarly 90s Marvel stereotypes band together to murder Skrulls that are living in plain sight among us. Its a sci-fi trope thats been done plenty of times but this time, the catalyst is tainted burger meat. We only have ourselves to blame. Also, Captain America plays peek-a-boo with a 14-yr old kid in this book who might be a de-aged Stan Lee. Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  DC Comics Superhero Mad Libs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:22:19

DC Comics Superhero Mad Libs We opted this week to take a different approach to our show and try out some DC Comics Mad Libs that Shawn’s brother sent over. Lots of ridiculous word substitutions that somehow create cohesive and plausible comic book stories. Join us for such random topics as: - sad Batcave tours - Cyborg’s moisturizing routine - Wonder Woman’s bumpy ride - Flash in Cheetah City - and many more dumb events Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  The Wanderers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:05

The Wanderers #12 (1989) This is an infamous book where a group of superhero clones/scientists jet around the universe to help ensure evolution and life on other planets. We think. Not entirely sure on that. There’s also a planet of people who look like they only use the Joker’s makeup products from the first BATMAN movie. And for some reason, we spend the last 15 minutes of this episode talking about Dave Navarro. We did our best. Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!  Barbie Fashion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:12:56

Barbie Fashion #31 (1993) Barbie is the Vincent Chase of toys and has infinite links to shared universes that you may have never imagined. Also, some old woman crashes her car into Barbie’s convertible and is rewarded with a motorcycle license. And let’s not forget a special appearance from Ed Begley Jr. as a paleontologist who meets a tragic end. Please rate, review, subscribe and tell a friend!
