Product Description Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of the powerful underground organization, the Illuminati, and joins forces wit
Amazon.com If the devil is in the details, there's a lot of wicked fun in Angels & Demons, the sequel (originally a prequel) to The Da Vinci Code. Director Ron Howard delivers edge-of-your-pew thrills all over the Vatican, the City of Rome, and the deepest, dankest catacombs. Tom Hanks is dependably watchable in his reprised role as Professor Robert Langdon, summoned urgently to Rome on a matter of utmost urgency--which happens to coincide with the death of the Pope, meaning the Vatican is teeming with cardinals and Rome is teeming with the faithful. A religious offshoot group, calling themselves the Illuminati, which protested the Catholic Church's prosecution of scientists 400 years ago, has resurfaced and is making extreme, and gruesome, terrorist demands. The film zooms around the city, as Langdon follows clues embedded in art, architecture, and the very bone structure of the Vatican. The cast is terrific, including Ewan McGregor, who is memorable as a young protégé of the late pontiff, and who seems to challenge the common wisdom of the Conclave just by being 40 years younger than his fellows when he lectures for church reform. Stellan Skarsgard is excellent as a gruff commander of the Swiss Guard, who may or may not have thrown in with the Illuminati. But the real star of the film is Rome, and its High Church gorgeousness, with lush cinematography by Salvatore Totino, who renders the real sky above the Vatican, in a cataclysmic event, with the detail and majesty of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. --A.T. Is there faith on earth? August 9, 2010 pflash 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The question unanswered in this movie is whether it was good for Christianity or not. (Roman Catholic especially} There was an inner battle going on relative to faith. The acting was superb. Is there anyone better than Tom Hanks?
Angels and Demons review August 8, 2010 Dr Paul The movie had a great plot and is full of suspense and mystery. Great value. Good Movie. Worth the money
Great movie! July 31, 2010 mb525 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent blue-ray DVD. It is wonderful to watch on the hd tv. Definitely recommend.
Liked it better than the Da vinci Code. July 28, 2010 Lincoln County MT (Extreme NW Montana) Found it better than the first in the series. Maybe by the third things well be really really good.
I've got no real opinion on the anti-modern-day-religions via the messages in the movie. Some people are strong fanatics and think anything that is not to their own thinking or beliefs must be snuffed out. Room for all sorts of beliefs and non believers both in this world. Who is to really say what is all wrong or all right. Not sure how it becomes so fanatical and fanned up into a heated rage for some. Almost all religions teach tolerance......Christ certainly did by word and by showing. Yet so many seem
to buy into the hate and fear campaigns....it's a sad world at times these days. At least these kinds of movies make some people stop and think about what they think they know. A challenge is a good thing really. I'd recommend the movie....especially to torment my Catholic friends and foes not to mention some Lutherns and Methodists I know too. They don't always relish such a challenge.....
BORN LOT DANGER July 25, 2010 Silent Monkey (Indianapolis, IN. USA) This version of the film is loose. Good but not great. There are only a few slight differences to the Extended cut versus the Theatrical cut.
It makes the movie maybe an extra ten minutes longer and only a small portion of never before seen extra features. The result would be an absolutely wonderful experience for big fans of Dan Brown's novels or possibly the actors in the film, for others, I'd not recommend this. To put in honest words, I liked this better than the original only because we get to sit through the experience a little longer. I enjoyed it much, hence the four stared rating.
Any of those reading this review who love puzzles would like to solve the anagram in the title above. :)
