iTunes is Tagging Your Songs with Your Name and eMail
The Unofficial Apple Weblog is reporting that Apple is embedding its customers’ names and email addresses in the clear into files purchased from the iTunes Store.
Apparently Apple has been doing this for some time in both the new “DRM-Free” and in the old Fairplay restrcited downloads.
As TUAW explains, the name and email embedded into the file can easily be found with a couple terminal commands. You can also find the name and email of the purchaser in the information pane for each song, which means that anyone who later comes into possession of the song, and who knows where to look, will be able to see the original purchaser’s name and email address.
