Impact and Quality Drive Advertising Opportunity
Techcrunch posted about Ze Frank complaining that Rocketboom’s viewer numbers are inflated and that is making hard for other video podcaster’s to sell ads. The TechCrunch focus seems to be on validating Rocketboom’s reported numbers (and they seem to be within reason).
Completely, overlooked is the issue of audience quality and the impact of the ads. Give me a great target audience and a way to make an impact and I will show you ad dollars. If you have a high value audience (to someone - CIO’s to software sellers, Wine Drinkers to wineries, etc) people will pay for impact.
Focus on an audience, make an impact and the money will follow - Rocketboom seems to have been able to build a general following and figured out how to make an impact - that’s worth paying for.
Audience value X impact = what people are willing to pay for advertising.
