I saw a post over at Video Podcasting News entitled, The Secret of YouTube’s Success: Hot Chicks Doing Stupid Sh**, making a counter argument to John Dvorak’s view at Marketwatch  that YouTube is a success because it’s easy to use and there’s lots of pent up demand for video.

So I wanted to know – what does the data say. To find out, I took a quick trip over to Yahoo’s Search Resources to see what people are searching for.
And here are the top ten searches for video

It seems pretty clear to me that the secret to YouTube’s success is giving everybody free videos of Hot, Sexy Chicks In Funny Music Videos.  So score one for VPN.  And maybe Dvorak’s right that YouTube made it easy enough so that every Hot, Sexy Chick with a video to post could figure it out.
The only thing people might like better is a porn version of YouTube.
