Portable Media Expo

by

Wired is reporting that the upcoming Portable Media Expo will have great attendance - “Some 2,500 attendees and 50 exhibitors from 38 states and 22 nations are expected to turn out for the event”.

However, there is also some controversy about Podshow potentially threatening to hold an impromptu “un-expo” at a nearby hotel, where podcasters may be invited to discuss potential promotional deals with the company.

Apparently, Audible.com secured the sponsorship for the event for $35,000, leaving Podshow looking for other ways to promote itself at what is turning out to be a big event for podcasting.

Hope to see you all there.

“Potentially threatening” ? I find that this is the sort of language that attempts to make any Podshow appearance an “unauthorized” event. Excuse me, but is it a crime for 50 like-minded people to gather and talk with each other about the network they belong to? Honestly you should ask someone involved rather than just point the finger blindly. This post is biased, inaccurate, and obviously laced with your own personal vendetta.

The story in Wired is from 2005. But it doesn’t mean that there’s bad blood with Mr Curry who manages to rise above the fray with deep pockets of vc cash.

    Cheers Marcus!

Somehow this 2005 news story feels all new again….The hilarity is that, despite the “sky is falling” sentiments of esteemed publications two-years ago, the sky has not fallen, as best as I can tell. I certainly can’t remember Wired ever reporting how smoothly things went, and how things continue to grow and change.

Hype is one thing, but apparently hyperbole lives forever.

Somehow it definitely felt more exciting then as the space was just 1 year old. It’s good there is still so much to be done.
