Nasa Magazine Using Text-to-Speech Technology to Produce Podcasts

The NASA-sponsored Astrobiology Magazine announced production of its first audio edition, as an international radio version, and as a listed program on iTunes. The magazine leverages its text-to-speech technologies to automate production in different reading voices. In August 2005, Astrobiology Magazine peaked in popularity, reaching number eleven among the global list of Apple iTunes’ Podcasts.

The magazine uses Mobular Technologies’ mobilePortal to convert the text to speech.

A quick listen suggests that we still have a long way to go in text to speech automation.
