MacWorld reports that Apple rolled out iTunes 5 today, an update to the popular software Apple makes available for Mac and Windows users alike.

New features

• Playlists can be organized into folders
• New search capabilities
• Automatic synchronization with Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express
• New “Smart Shuffle” feature to crontrol likelood of hearing multiple songs from same artist
• Parental controls for explicit lyrics

Apple also released some interesting statistics about the its online Music Store

• Sold more than 500 million songs so far
• Selling 1.8 million songs per day
• Now offer 15,000 podcasts (increasing by 1,000 per week)
• 7 million podcast subscriptions so far
• There are over 10 million iTunes accounts
• Average account buys 60 songs per year
