There's been a lot of news items recently about the surge in whooping cough cases this year, 2012. So I thought we would look at the whooping cough. We haven't covered it in the past and it's one of those diseases that we may not know a whole lot about. Once upon a time it was very prevalent as a common childhood illness with high mortality rates and very severe disease effects until a vaccine was developed for it in the 1940s. We're going to go ahead and talk about whooping cough here on the Nursing Show tip of the week.
