I’m taking a complex topic and simplifying it to make it easier to understand All the information I am about to share with you took me years to learn from trial and error, interning at major record labels, million dollar studios and from college and getting a bachelors degree in music business. Especially when it comes to music, YouTube should be used as a traffic source to redirect your fans to your streaming or subscription services. My biggest mistake was not putting my songs on streaming sites in the beginning. I worked so hard to make 7 of my videos go viral on YouTube & my listeners had nowhere else to go once they finished watching the video. I thought I was rebelling and standing up for a great cause like Taylor Swift by just putting my music on iTunes but I should’ve realized that. I’m not Taylor Swift! lol Even if the streaming royalties were fractions of a penny. If I would’ve simply put my songs on streaming sites early on I would’ve made thousands of dollars more. I have a total of 1.6 million streams on all platforms $2,923 from 1.6 million streams When I did the math for only the first 1 million streams, I made $1,826.25 I made $0.0018 per stream or $1.83 per 1,000 streams You’ll see the different pay rates for each streaming platform in the video. One of the two I talk about are YouTube and Napster. With YouTube being the least at $0.0007 per stream- Just to put this into perspective - that’s 7% of a penny per stream. And Napsters being the most at 1.9 of a penny per stream. That’s almost 2 cents per stream! You’d be surprised to find out that many artists think that you have to get signed to put your songs on streaming platforms. There’s many companies like Distrokid and United Masters that help make the process of getting your songs on streaming platforms, quick, easy and painless.
