EP16: Juvenile Justice and Youth Transfer

NASW Social Work Talks show

Summary: Black youth make up about 14% of the total youth population, but comprise 47.3% of the youth transferred to adult court by juvenile court judges. Mel Wilson, NASW's social justice and human rights manager, and Jeree Thomas, Campaign for Youth Justice's policy director, discuss this unjust practice. They encourage social workers to get involved in action-oriented coalitions to make changes in their communities, and to hold their elected officials accountable. Check the show notes for resources.
