Summary: Radio frequency spectrum auctions have bedeviled the Federal Communications Commission for decades. Among the most recent was also the most complicated. The FCC purchased spectrum from the television industry, auctioned it for wireless services, and found new spectrum for the broadcasters. The way in which the FCC did this has won it an award from Informs, an association of operations, research and analytics practitioners. Jean Kiddoo, chair of the incentive auction task force at the FCC, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin for more discussion.
