Summary: Money is going mobile and the race is on to become your mobile wallet. Indeed, Forbes recently dubbed the mobile payments industry the $15 trillion gold rush. In 2013, $15 trillion was spent globally on retail transactions of which $1 trillion was via e-commerce and the remaining $14 trillion in physical stores via either cash or credit cards. Research estimates that more of that $14 billion will go digital as smartphones continue to spread. Gartner, for example, estimates that mobile payments will reach $720 billion a year by 2017, up from $235 billion last year. Major players such as Apple, Amazon, Google, PayPal, EBay, Visa and Mastercard among others all want to win the digital wallet. Will Bitcoin be able to keep up with the pace?
