(2013-12-01) The Mystical Significance of the Missal

Audio Sancto show

Summary: Sermon titled "The Mystical Significance of the Missal" given on Sunday December 1, 2013. Size: 11.3 MB; duration: 32:50. During the Extraordinary Form Mass, the Missal, which represents worship, is moved from the Epistle (south) side of the altar to the Gospel (north) side, then back again to the Epistle side. This symbolizes salvation history from the First Coming of Christ to the end of time. When Christ first came, the Jews (the south side) rejected Him, and so the Gospel was preached to the Gentiles (the north side). Then, toward the end of time, the Gentiles will reject the Gospel and resume paganism, and the Jews will embrace the Gospel, symbolized by the movement of the Missal back to the Epistle side of the altar. A discussion of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church on the Great Apostasy and coming of Antichrist, the signs of the times, and a stunning appraisal by then-Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of our present situation in relation to the consummation of the world.
