Self-Publishing: Disruptor Or Defender Of The Book Business?

bookbliss show

Summary: As James McQuivey, author of the new book Digital Disruption, notes, digital competitors in publishing and across all industries are taking advantage of digital technologies to undercut competitors, get closer to customers, and disrupt the usual ways of doing business. The discussion focused on the disruptive effects that the growth of “self-publishing” will have on traditional industry players, and we seek to learn what drives established trade/literary authors to turn to various start-up players in e-book publishing. Panelists McQuivey; Keith Ogorek of Author Solutions; and Angela James from Carina Press, thoroughly examine why and how publishers and authors must build on existing platforms to find the fastest path to success, including how to follow McQuivey’s key advice: “Disrupt yourself.” This panel was moderated by Christopher Kenneally, Director, Business Development, Copyright Clearance Center.
