One of the greatest Popes, Innocent III, died and appeared to Saint Lutgarda in flames and told her that he was expiating three faults that he had to make atonement for. Innocent III was considered one of the most holy popes in the middle ages. Saint Lutgarda and her sisters prayed for him to relieve his purgatory time. At Fatima, the Blessed Mother told the children that a girl from their village was saved, but had to stay in purgatory until the end of the world. Purgatory is the place where the members of the church suffering live. All souls in purgatory are saved, but they have to make amends for their sins on earth. There are two pains in purgatory. The delay of the beatific vision and the pain of sense. There are 3 reasons for souls in purgatory. They are making amends for sins, both mortal and venial, they died for venial sins that have not been forgiven and people have the remains of sin on their soul. We must pray for those in purgatory, as well as obtaining indulgences that we can offer up for the pour souls in purgatory.
