Looking at the feedback I received from last weeks episode, many of you enjoyed the surprise and the change of pace. My thanks again to Rosh and Dean of the Prosperous Artists Podcast, and while I’m at it thanks to 11 O’clock Comics, John Mayo and Comic Book Page and Michael Eury for coming on the TwoMorrows Tune-In Podcast. It’s been a non stop tour this past week and I’m gracious to have been involved.
This week’s installment of the Collected Comics Library Podcast is one that is a long time coming – all three hardcover volumes of the Green Lantern epic saga: The Sinestro Corp War. These collected editions are nothing short of spectacular. Not only is it a fun read through the GL mythos, but the packaging and extras are splendid and the pricing is very affordable. This series will draw in past Green Lantern fans (like myself) and gives non GL fans an opportunity to get on board at exactly the right time. I also go into a bit of the hidden history of where the Sinestro Corp was born – the strange mind of Alan Moore!
The news this week is plentiful including a new romance and sci-fi collection of Ogden Whitney, the International edition of Watchmen, Noble Causes Archives Volume 2, Preacher, HBO and the fate of a new collection, and the second (not the first) round of Softcover Marvel Masterworks. All this including shipping and product changes and the New Releases of the Week.

Collected Edition Blog browsing on Wednesday afternoon
Just doing a bit up catch-up today. Probably the biggest non news story this week is that Marvel will be publishing softcover versions of their Masterworks. Has everyone in the collected edition world forgot that Marvel did this years ago exclusively through Barnes and Noble? They published twelve of them and they contained the same contents as the Hardcover “reMasterworks” ones. I said then and I’ll say it again, that Marvel should have been doing this all along! More on this in Thursday’s podcast #185. For now, as you can see not many other news items to go over.
- The Detroit Free Press concludes their Annual Football Preview - Superheroes! The remaining player/hero profile is MSU-bound QB Andrew Maxwell as Superman.
- Richard, FPI Blog continues his The Uncollecteds A-Z part 2 J through R
- Dan Nadel, Comics Comics, reports that PictureBox is going to publish a collection of Ogden Whitney’s romance and sci-fi comics in late 2009 or early 2010. Co-edited by Frank Santoro, Bill Boichel and little ol’ me. We are scouring the earth for any and all Whitney material. We aim to solve a few mysteries with this one and should get down to work on it as soon as Mr. Santoro stops blogging for a minute and finished Cold Heat! Ha! Just kidding. Sort of. No, but seriously, Frank is very close to finishing and we will send the book to the printer in December in order to have the books in stores everywhere in April.
- Top Cow Productions, Inc. announced it will publish the first, complete story arc of William Harms’ Impaler in a new trade paperback that will debut this October, and then will launch a new series for the property in December.
- DC Comics presents a special, new edition of the WATCHMEN TP, featuring a brand-new cover by artist extraordinaire Dave Gibbons. Available for order now, the WATCHMEN INTERNATIONAL EDITION TP is created especially for the international market, and is also available to retailers in the U.S. and Canada exclusively through Diamond.

For this week’s show I break format and present to you an interview of which I was the subject of on the Prosperous Artists Podcast (#102), a business marketing and motivational podcast.
Earlier in the week I sat down with hosts Rosh Sillars and Dean La Douceur to discuss my show - the formation, sponsorship, creativity and other important subjects.
It’s a rare look as to what I do each week to produce one of the post popular comic books podcasts on the internet.

CCL Podcast #183 - Halfway Through American Flagg!

Collected Comics Library Podcast #183

The CCL Podcast is back in action after a two week hiatus. While I was away on vacation I finished reading the Essential Luke Cage Volume 2 (Marvel) and part of American Flagg! (Image and Dynamic Forces), which is the topic for this week’s show. I liked it very much, but admittedly I felt lost within the first few pages. I tell you all about it and my overall impressions of the package itself.
Also this week, I catch up with a fair amount of news including 1 Million copies of Watchmen, the so-called Limited Edition of the Mini Marvels Digest and some out of bounds pricing for an Alex Ross signed edition of Secret Wars Omnibus from Dynamic Forces. Finally, I go over some upcoming DC Comics Classic Library Editions and slue of 2nd Printings of Marvel Masterworks - one of which makes me very, very happy. All this and the New Releases of the Week (and a few from last week)!

Real Power Part 12: Lois Lane
Continuing a series of blogs that was inspired by the Adam Hughes poster The Real Power of the DC Universe.
Today we move to Lois Lane. Yep. Lois Lane. She’s the one I think should have been included in the poster. Before you get all in a tizzy, I realize that all the women depicted are going to play some sort of role in the DCU in the upcoming months and that Lois has no superpower power. But when it comes to feminism and women’s lib, Lois has the moxy, and therefore, she has “real power”.
Ever since she debuted in Action Comics #1 (yeah, she’s as old as Superman), she has been portrayed as smart, headstrong and with gusto. Sure, she plays the fool from time to time, but nowadays, she can even match wits with Lex Luthor, and that’s why she deserves to be among the elite female heroes. Lois hasn’t had many books with her own title, but here are a few collected editions of where you can find her stand out moments.
- Superman Archives Volume 1. There are several Superman themed DC Archives editions, but here you will find Lois’ first Golden Age appearances.
- Showcase Presents Superman Family Volumes 1-2. Superman’s Girl Friend, Lois Lane started in March 1958 and ended its run October 1974 with 137 issues. These two books collect her early Silver Age issues.
- Lois Lane #1-2 (1986). These are the final appearance of the Silver Age Lois Lane. The revised Post-Crisis Lois Lane makes her first appearance in Man of Steel #1. This two part story has not been collected.
- Superman: Lois Lane 1. Part of the multiple one-shots Girlfrenzy!. Other titles include: Batgirl, The Secret, Tomorrow Woman, Donna Troy, The Ravens, and The Mist. None of these books have been collected.
- The Daily Planet TPB. This collection, of many different stories throughout history, revolves around the Daily Planet newspaper and its staff. Featuring classics with reporters Clark Kent and Lois Lane, photographer Jimmy Olsen, Editor-in-chief Perry White, and many more - showing how far they will go to get a great story!
- Superman: The Wedding and Beyond TPB. It’s all here.
Lois can be found in the Superman books and Final Crisis. You can also see her on Smallville thanks to Erica Durance.
Real Power Part 11: Harley Quinn
Continuing a series of blogs that was inspired by the Adam Hughes poster The Real Power of the DC Universe.
Today we move to Harley Quinn. Certifiable. Not much else describes her. Let’s face it, anyone who falls in love with The Joker can’t be described in any other way.
Interestingly, Dr. Harleen Quinzel didn’t originate from the comics, she was created for Batman: The Animated Series; “Joker’s Favor” (episode #22, airdate: September 11, 1992). She proved to be so popular that DC added her into the DCU comics in 1999. These days she’s not some much involved with Joker as she is with Poison Ivy and former Catwoman, Holly Robinson. Now let’s take a look at some of her collected editions:
- Batman: Harley Quinn OGN by Paul Dini. The book that brought Harley into the pages of the DC Universe.
- Batman Adventures: Mad Love Timed to coincide with Harley Quinn’s DC Universe debut, this award-winning special showcases the irrepressible Harley in the “adventures” animated style.
- Harley Quinn: Preludes and Knock-Knock Jokes Collects the first seven issues (of 38) of her own ongoing series.
- Batman: Harley and Ivy TPB Collects Batman: Harley and Ivy, Harley and Ivy: Love On The Lam OGN and a colored story from Batman Black and White Vol. 2
Harley Quinn was last seen in Countdown.
